New Bull Terrier pups and n introduction
Hello all
My name is Joe Paranee and my family and I are proud new owners of 2 Bull Terrier pups
I have three daughters and a wife
I am a life long dog person
I'm 48 and I can't remember a time when I was not surrounded by dogs and that they were not a major part of my life
I grew up with Shepards and various breeds and in my late teens I was importing good Rottweillers from Germany and enjoyed that breed for over 2 decades at times having as many as 4
I live in the woods and have a rather large compound type layout with seperate carriages houses etc. the main home is set up for dogs with dog rooms and dog doors that lead to large fenced in areas. All of my dog as are house dogs and not kept in kennels. They sleep in bed with us
After the Rottweilers I switched breeds to Dogo Argentinos
I was fortunate enough to be graced with a very special male named Jack
Jack and I did everything
He was excellent in the field and hunted everything from hogs down south to birds up north and was a great blood trailer and found many a deer
Jack even made it on TV on a hunting show hunting pheasants and even though Dogos are not known for bird hunting my boy could do it all
He was totally not dog aggressive and loved people but on critters he was white lightening
Jack was truly a once in a lifetime dog
Well about 4 months ago my dear friend at 13 died
The time we spent together was one of the great joys of my life
We were very distraught but fortunately I also had his son Tuco
When Jack was 5 I finally gave into a persistent breeder and when the right female came along I let him breed her to Jack and Tuco who was pick of the litter was ours
Tuco
Well Tuco grew big and strong and was also a very accomplished dog in the field and a darn good watch dog to boot
Well 4 weeks ago we lost our beloved Tuco to an inoperable tumor
It came out of no where and by the time we got to the right specialists all was lost and we had no option but to put him down
He was only 8 years old ...... His age made the loss even harder
Imagine having to explain to a bunch of little girls how both the dogs they grew up with just happened to die the same summer
It has been very hard and my eyes well up as I write this
In my next post I will get to the bull terriers

Around a year and a half ago my middle daughter who is 13 now asked me ..... Can I get a female Bull Terrier ?
I said homey Jack is getting old and I don't think he will make it another year so I need time to get him thru this. At the time we had Jack His son Tuco who was only six and we also had an adorable puppy that was a a cross between a toy poodle and a miniature Australian Sheperd called a Aussie doodle that I had just gotten my wife and and my youngest who is !1 now so we had a lot of dogs and cats going on
I did say that I have been a fan of the Bull Terroer breed for decades and had spent a lot of time with a lot of the Bulloe breeds down south hunting etc
You see I've had my dogs kinda planned out my whole life and I always said that after my Dogos were gone I would be switching breeds to either an Am Staff od a Bull Terrier so I told her that I loved the breed but just needed to get thru Jack getting old and failing on me
Well a year or so later at the begining of this summer Jack passed away and again my daughter asked me if it was time to get her female bull terrier
I said soon but it was the begining of summer and we had a lot of plans and it was not the best time that we would revisit it in the fall ..... Besides I wanted to spend extra time with Tuco now that Jack was gone
Well when Tuco died so unexpectedly I was heart broken but I also new I had no more excuses
The day I told them that Tuco, was not coming home I also told my middle daughter to start looking for a female bull terrier but I told her I would do one better ..... She could look for two
I said that I would take a male and that I would prefer a brother and sister so I would. Not be tempted to breed .... I've been down that rode before to many times
I told her that it would take months and we needed to do the research and take our time that riding good dogs was a serious matter that needed time attention and a bit of luck
We'll never underestimate a motivated 13 year old little girl
With in hours she had found a litter of 5 week old puppies that had one white male (my preference) and a white female with a eye patch (her preference)
I said homey I need to research the breeder etc and that I didn't want her to get to excited
I said it takes time to find the right dogs
She said what do you think I've been doing for the last year and a half
She reminded me that I had bought JACK right after the loss of my last male Rottie and that sometimes things are meant to be
She's quite the salesman
Well after a 6 hour drive the next day I put a deposit down on two 5 week old bull terriers
Meet Max and Lady
I told her and her sisters that I had no more excuses and that she could start to look for not just one Bull Terrier but two bull terriers
A female for her and a male for me
I am extremely pleased with them
Here they are at 5 weeks
I picked them up at 7 weeks
The pictures above were at 5 weeks when we first saw the litter
They are in the woods already and Showing some great noses
I will start them tracking this season
They are packing on weight and at 10 weeks weighted
Max 15.2 #'s
Lady 13.8 #'s
They are very fiesty but listen well
They are following me everywhere off lead in the woods and using their noses very well
We will be starting some very basic obidence this week with some puppy classes etc
Even though I have trained many very aggressive high energy dogs i am a firm believer in sourcing out a good trainer to help in socilization with puppy classes etc and to be able to put the dogs in different situations
I have been using the same trainer for 3 decades
I have high hopes for these dogs and my 13 year old has plans to possible show the female or do agility etc
They will both be used in the field to do some hunting and tracking if their noses lend to it
I know the pitfalls in raising litter mates and I understand the need to raise them as seperate dogs to a certain degree
They sleep apart most nights the male with me the female with my daughter and even though they are together a lot we have a large enough family that they can be seperate right for different activities etc
It's nice to fall in love again with some good dogs
Sorry for the disjointed posts
I had originally had pics linked in thru photobucket and had to reedit as I learned to post pics here
I think I have it worked out and I will gladly post their progress
I have a lot planned for the little guys and I'm very pleased with them so far
They are catching moles in the grass and very keen on being in the woods and using their noses
Once they walk a trail they can scent trail their way back home and I'm rather impressed
My Dogos had very good noses and so far these little fellows seem to be well equipped in this area
I have been keeping a log of their weight weekly and documenting with pics
Here is a brief video of when we first got them
As you can tell I like making videos
We hit the woods today .... everyday a new experience they are like sponges right now
The key to a well rounded woods dogs is new experiences
Notice the tails up

Last night was their first thunder and lightening storm I was awakened by the storm to see them standing in the bed growling and barking at the flashes and booms
The history of man is the history of the dog
Truly we would not be where we are at with out them
I see you're an avid hunter so let me share a story with you. About 6 or 7 years ago I sold a puppy from a current litter to a gentleman in Texas. I had no idea he was Very big into hunting. The only reason I found out was about two years later he shared a few photos with me to report back on how happy he was with his Bull Terrier who was now a mature adult. Within the photos I noticed I picture of his Bull Terrier with a hunting jacket of some sort on and laying next to this huge Pig. Knowing nothing about pig hunting I was a little shocked to see this and prayed he wasn't using his Bull Terrier for hunting such a dangerous beast so i called him. He chuckled a little by my initial concern and began telling me how he had trained his bullie from the day he received him to hunt pig. He said he had trained several other breeds over the years but explained that his Bull Terrier had more natural talent than any other breed he ever used for hunting. He added by saying that all his hunting friends (who also have dogs used for hunting pig) will easily admit that his Bull Terrier tops the rest of the pack. Here's a few photos he sent me:

Your dogs are beautiful and you should be very proud of having a fine dog like that in the field
I spent a lot of time years back with my first Dogo catching and hunting hogs till alas a good friends fantastic dog a Presa Canary was killed on a hog and at that we quit and I put them on birds and blood trailing deer and small game
I doubt these guys will ever see a hog but I can tell how they work a flirt pole that they would catch
Here is my Dogo Jack catching a hog and also with a cut vest and collar
Btw you breed beautiful dogs
Max is 16.8 #'s
Lady is 15.2 #'s
Yes in time I will fix lady but not till after a few years transpire
My daughter wants to possible show her and I will not fix any female for at least 3 years so we will see how it goes
Max will remain intact
im not big on fixing males at any age
Different breeds mature at different ages so it for me can vary
The dog never reaches its full potential

I did not know all of that I'm sure glad I have commen sense and have never fixed a dog at an early age
It has always appalled me how many vets suggest spaying at a very young age
Disgusting
spay and neuter with enthusiasm... after all what's more important? Dogs
or the almighty dollar??? That plus the flawed "modern" concept that
we need to limit unwanted pets by spay & neuter.
Bollocks, all of it.
This is one of my bumper stickers
I just always found it odd to see that intact dogs are the rarity not the norm
When it comes to males I was always amazed how people were ignorant of what removing the testicles of a dog at a young age would do to them
I tell them imagine doing the same to an 8 year old boy
He would certainly not be expected to mature into the physical or even emotional man he would be with out doing it
In my experience with male dogs doing so will greatly reduce their head size and thickness and also it makes it harder for the dog to have good lean muscle
These are just a few physical issues
I do not alter males but I have fixed females after I was done breeding and or had no interest of showing etc
They were all over 3 and one I regretted was over 5
Only reason I did her was because she would have horrible bouts of false pregnancy and the vet I was using thought it a suitable decision
In the end both of those females died of bone cancer
Both were Rottweilers
I'm not saying that it was the spaying fault but I do regret doing it and I will be looking for alternative measures with this Female bull terrier if my daughter decides to not show her
My set up lets me seperate dogs if need be
Do we know of any vets doing tube tying etc
I will be inquiring with my own vet
Don't mind the music my kids picked it

I like throwing as many positive expoeremces as I can at puppies seems to really help socialize them
Thank you
I'm lucky to have all of them
I truly apredicate the kind words and it is so very nice to see such a good group of people like you have on here
Thank you
They are doing well
I'm in love again
13 weeks and growing strong
Max is 23.2 #'s and Lady 20.6 #'s
They are good truck dogs
Max
Lady
Max working a sit and stay with a trainer I've worked with for well over 20 years
At 10 weeks they could easy do a 1.5 mile hump uphill half way with no issues
They seem to have great noses also
They love the woods
The female when we get going literally whines with excitement ...... she is very drivey
They both fire up on sounds and smells
Gonna be fun
