Gas

Thought about naming this topic farts, figured 'gas' was a little nicer  :))
I feed Maya Orijen food and have for almost her whole life. She has horrible gas, and very frequent. At this point I'm pretty much immune to it, but when I have people over it can definitely clear the room. Has anyone had gas issues with Orijen food? I just always thought changing food was sort of drastic, and I would just deal with the gas ...but it's getting worse.
Anything else it could be besides the food?

Are you on city water? does she drink pool water? or pond water?... If it's not the water, then it's the food .... Unless she is just getting tired of you :-)   Is the food Orijien Large Breed Puppy, GF?  Mine have a portion of that, mixed in with others, no gas.

  • I think it could be the food.  I am definitely no expert when it comes to EBT's but I have noticed that since I have changed Cyrus's food the gas has "disappeared".  I had him on Hills Science plan then switched over to Eukanuba Dermatosis FP it's grain free and it has improved his scratchiness as well as the gas, Thanks Phil! I forgot to buy and fed him Montego for 2 days and the farts stated again.
  • What protein of Orijen are you feeding? Orijen is grain free so that shouldn't be a problem. When Quinn was on Taste of the Wild she had bad gas, and whenever I put her on Acana Pacifica it would get bad again. TotW uses a lot of fish in their products and Pacifica is fish based. Once I kept her off the fishy products, the stink went away.

    Well. Not completely.
  • She's on the Orijen Adult Dog food. She doesn't drink any pool or pond water, we don't have many ponds left in California  :(( We're drying up.
I had her on TOTW briefly before, maybe I will try to go back to that.
    Thanks for your help.

Let me introduce you to Cpt. Stinky

It doesn't matter what chooba eats, where is water comes from, whether its a full moon, sleep, awake, running sitting, jumping.......you get the idea.

If you squeeze him he farts,
If he's jumping on the couch he farts.
If he's sleeping he farts, but sometimes they're bad enough that even he wakes up.

Getting off of plant based grain free foods like Taste of the Wild helped, Probiotic supplements also help. I've tried many different things that help marginally. But have come to the conclusion that I think he does it on purpose

All Bull Terriers fart but give them just a little bit of table scraps and you better hope you own a gas mask.

  • I was also about to recommend probiotics. Yet the thing about those: They're a tricky road, just as fiber is.
Some dog's gas improves on them, some get even worse.

Worth a try, but could turn out to be a fail.
But I am also pretty sure it's the food/ digestion.
  • Hannah rarely passes gas.........but when she does, look out..........its a gagger!!!!  My husband, on the other hand, really lets them rip.  Hannah always looks horrified when he does.  Shes totally disgusted......so funny.  Last weekend at the cottage, he let one fly and this is what Hannah did............. :))  Priceless!!!!!!!!!

    :))
... and does he also just sneak away from the spot he just left the "smelly mark" at and leave you behind in the "cloud", like the Bull Terriers do? :))
  • Quinn is one that does not improve on probiotics/yogurt.
If you squeeze him he farts,
If he's jumping on the couch he farts.

:)) :)) This is so true!! I think, to an extent, gas is just par for the course for bullies. Always catches people off guard when Quinn does steps and has a little toot for each one.
