That's odd that you can't find the GNC formula near you. They sell it in all PetSmarts as well as many other Pet Store chains. You can always order it online from GNC. It will actually save you money and delivery is FAST. I usually have it to my door in 3 days. Many breeders prefer not to use it for one reason only - Price. It is costly at $50+ per can which only lasts a few days with a normal size litter but with only one puppy it will last good a long. It's the perfect stuff for mixing with ground up puppy food to make "mush" which is what you'll be having to do when your puppy turns 4 weeks old. Here's a video of some puppies of ours at 4 weeks of age eating some some puppy mush which was a mixture of GNC formula and Taste of the Wild puppy food.

Ah, yes. Saw this video along time ago. Has quite a bit of views on YouTube. I remember reading in another discussion that you stopped using taste of the wild puppy? I like taste of the wild. That's what my dogs have been eating for the past couple years
I like TOTW too but over the years and after quite a few litters I've taken note on weight gain and profiency in puppy progress between different foods and I've noticed that Royal Canin some how provided better results in early puppy stages. I'm all for switching puppy foods as they get older and have bigger appetites but Royal Canin seems to taste better for young pups thus giving them the appetite to take in larger volume of food intake during the time i want them to plump up. Just my opinion and an opinion made after whelping several litters with TOTW, Blue Buffalo, and Victor. Both Royal Canin and TOTW still honor us with free puppy packages and sample foods but for now I'm content with the results from Royal Canin.

PetSmart usually has them but you can order it through GNC on the web and it will be there in 2 days. You will be needing milk replacer until 5-6 weeks of age to go into the mush. You are doing great. Yep people just don't understand what they are. Quite frankly, for most of them, I don't want them too, more for the rest of us! )
So glad to catch up on this thread and hear the puppy is gaining weight. Can't wait to see a picture of this precious little pup, and momma and poppa, too. I'm very proud of you for helping her during this stage. Soon she will be eating her mush and doubling her weight before you know it. You'll have a best friend for life, and bull terrier love is some of the best there is.
Bless that little one! And you too Ryan. It's not often one is witness to near miracles. You two, as a team, are making one happen now! Congrats and my utmost respect to you for your diligence and love for her!
So she's constipated and has diareah. You can see her pushing. Her but pokes way out and it's kinda sore and red looking. Then if she poops it's tiny little streams and it's messy as all hell. What should I do about that? I put bag balm in it. She hasn't ate much today ether. Since 630 am until now at 2 o'clock she has had maybe 2.5 oz of formula
She keeps going up and down. I wish I could make sense of it because if you are remaining consistent with her feedings and care she should be getting stronger and eating more during each feeding. I know I've been bugging you since day one about feeding her GNC formula and you have stuck with the Esbilac but I think you'd be helping her out a lot by switching her food. I realize you have said it's unavailable in your area. However, I found it strange because it's so readily available everywhere I've been that I decided to help you find it. I called the closest PetSmart in your area (http://www.forlocations.com/petsmart-Silverdale/WA/9588-ridgetop-blvd-nw) which is about 40 miles away and they said they have it on hand. You have another PetSmart about 60 miles from you. They too have it on hand. You may wish to pay them a visit for a milk formula that your little girl will have an easier time digesting, provide better nutritional value, and most likely cause her to want to eat more. Her butt is red and a little raw from the cotton ball. Concentrate on the volume of food she's eating and rethink your decision to keep her on the Esbilac vice the GNC. Call me if you have any questions or concerns.

Bonnie is a sweet, precious little pup. As a mom, the days of taking care of a little being seem long and hard, but before you know it, they're self-sufficient and grown. These weeks will seem like almost no time at all when you look back on them, seeing Bonnie as a beautiful BT. Hang in there and do everything you can to give her the best foundation possible. Lots of people are pulling for you and Bonnie.
Well she eats good in one sitting. She usually gobbles down almost 2 oz every feeding. Like she didi this morning. Then the second feeding she had Maybe a little more than a half oz. I'm trying to feed her now actually. She's getting close to 2 pounds. Getting stronger and crawling around more. I wonder if the pink amoxicillin has anything to do with it.? She was doin a lot better pooping when she wasn't taking it.
We called it bubblegum medicine because that's what it smelled like when my kids got it...many years ago. It used to cause them diarrhea sometimes or very seldom maybe a tummy ache or diaper rash, but not constipation. It's normally a relatively easy antibiotic when it comes to not having some of the harsher side effects of other medicines.
You have to be so proud when you see her getting bigger and crawling. Hang in there! You can do it!
Rest In Peace Bonnie! You will be missed by all of us. May you grow Big and Strong in heaven with your sister and other Bull Terriers who were also loved and cherished by their owners. Ryan - Don't beat yourself up about what you could have done differently and have regrets for anything. You put tremendous efforts into keeping her alive and I commend you for it. Bonnie (and her sister) were born small, light, and fragile which often possess risks and many concerns. You did your best and should be proud of your own efforts. I'm sorry for your loss.

She entered this world with the odds against her and fought like a true bullie. She had the spunk that we see in our bullies everyday. The short time she spent with us she was all bullie and nothing else. Bless her little soul and may she rest knowing that there were a lot of us that loved her even though so far away. And bless you Ryan, for battling with her and doing all you could to help Bonnie along in her struggle. =((
Thank you for all the kind words. It was a rough night. Had her in my arms when she passed. It was only 17 days but it felt like I lost her at 17 years. I did everything I could for her.
As sad as it is I did learn a whole lot of things in a short period of time. My relationship with you fellow bully lovers grew as did my knowledge for breeding and whelping litters. I can't thank you guys enough
After being so involved with puppy rescue, staying at home all the time, having such a great responsibility and then everything just goes back to how it was before....it's kind of a shock. It makes me want to get involved in something. Bull terrier rescue or something if that nature. I have my two bullies but it feels like I could do more for the breed. Rescue, awareness or anything of sorts. I suppose I could start by being more of an active member on this forum.
We will welcome your input for sure Ryan. As tragically as this story ended, I feel privileged to have been witness to it as it unfolded. Rescue would be a wonderful outlet for sure. Breed awareness as well. It would be a fitting legacy for Bonnie should you decide to pursue that. Please stick around and enjoy your new found friends here on the forum.
I have been thinking about you all day, and so glad you are here. You did learn A LOT in a very short period of time. Your experiences could be very helpful to someone else, so please, please, please stay active here. I am anxious to hear about your bull terriers, and it's fun to share some of the goofy stuff they do. Also, it's encouraging to have others around that have been through something and can share how they dealt with something. You have friends here.
Ryan, so sorry about Bonnie. You did very well with her. There is not really anything that could be changed to change the outcome. You had special time with her but without everything you did she would not have had that. So many things can happen with a litter. They can change so fast. While it is devastating she is not alone. Her and her sister are playing together.
Yeah. At least there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This discussion has a lot of information on it now. Somebody that has a similar issue could look on here for advice and direction. Maybe see what to look out for with puppies during the whelping process, proper formula, proper bottle and nipple size.
Feels strange not having her now. It was a major responsibility taking care of the sickly pup. Now what do I do? Haha. I guess I will take my dogs to the beach and have a last moment to reflect on Bonnie's passing.
As far as breeding goes. I have the drive and dedication to someday be a respectful breeder. Currently however it doesn't really pan out. I'm 28 years old and still have to go to work and pursue career related things. I would have to wait until I retire or if I worked out my house things would be different.
Oh! God, I'm sick to my stomach! I was sooooo praying she'd make it through, it's hard to believe she's gone. What a horrible combination of events. I am deeply sorry for your loss, I know you really wanted her to stay the course. I won't be able to eat tonight. Just terrible.
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
