Yep, her last post sums up much truth within the breed that many have no clue about until they begin getting involved with the breed whole heartedly. Too many phoney's out there condemning others in attempt to make themselves look better or project a false imagine of themselves. The day you rescue a Bull Terrier from an owner who shows you where they got their EBT from and what kind of support their breeder truly provided is the day you lose respect for that breeder. No breeder is perfect but it's sad that there are some who go through great efforts to try and dig up dirt on others in hopes of discrediting their reputation. I've had my share of people trying to do that to me over the years. However, I'm confident that their failed attempts and false accusations have proven to frustrate them and only make them look bad when they're proven wrong. The truth is you can not be a breeder for many years with high popularity within the nation without others making attempts at discrediting you in order to make themselves appear to be a better breeder. It's an ugly fact that still exists today. The best advice I can give any new breeder is to simply do things right and love your dogs. If you can do that, nobody will ever be successful in their attempts to discredit you as a breeder. The longer you are involved as a breeder the more people will be visiting you and judging you and your dogs. A bad breeder will not last long and that's a guarantee. A good breeder will gain popularity fast and have many people waiting patiently on a waiting list for one of their puppies.

When I was looking for my first bull terrier, I spoke to many breeders, some of them from the BCTA website. More than one of them told me there were bad breeders around me they knew of and would never support, but they never gave me the names!! Why wouldn't a breeder want to call out a bad breeder? Why wouldn't someone want to warn a buyer not to go to someone who wasn't doing right by the breed? And these conversations were all private emails or phone calls...I could understand not saying anything in a forum, but why not just warn me? Would you all "snitch" on other breeders?
I think the biggest reason people rarely call out other breeders is because- without physical proof, it's only he say's/ she say's and is how rumors get started.
I could say many things, name, name's but, without physical proof- who's to know I am not making things up?
Maybe I am just a person who dislike's a breeder for there personality and claim they are bad breeder's, spread a bad rumor around.
If someone came to me looking for a puppy- i would rather direct them in the RIGHT direction- though, I would not specifically give names because, again, without proof- It could come back and make me look like a gossip- even if it's true, If I dont have the proof, then its basically a lie.
and if your spreading information around you cant back up, you are going to make yourself look like a total ass.
and even if i tell people in secret and in private- Unless they are VERY good friends- i dont know if they will go and tell someone else and then they tel someone else and then they tell someone else and so on and so forth.
I'm not one to make any rumors but sometimes it's safe to make assumptions so you can stay away from breeders you believe aren't worth your time. Do the research and find the right people then things should flow. If you feel something is wrong then maybe finding the right situation later means that much more.
I too had lots of trouble finding Spud. After the first breeder visit he mentioned that no one else has better BT's and the ones in the towns near me aren't great. First off the guy has plenty AKC BT's and none of them are being shown, which is a minus on my report card as he was selling them as show dogs. The champion BT's came from the grandparents which is already up the line. He then lowered the price as I was leaving by a significant amount, another minus on my report card - don't be fooled that the price you were about to pay at a discounted rate is now favorable because the breeder probably already had that discounted price in mind. He was just waiting to see if you'll buy them at what he asked initially.
There's lots I can name. I think when it comes down to it the breeder who is most transparent, has the right capabilities to raise litters (health tested, socialized, etc.) and offers the guarantee plus communication is what your looking for.
Thanks for responding, sorry to dig this up from so long ago. I get what you mean about not having physical proof, but they have to have their beliefs from somewhere? They could at least tell me that they don't think they're breeding to standard or something, maybe stuff they have gleaned just from the website as tips for things I should watch out for, especially since I was new to all of it. They also didn't really direct me toward any other breeders or rescues...but since pretty much all of them were skeptical of me because I was 21, I guess I can't blame them. I have learned sooo much in the past few years about breeding and bull terriers in general. But you can never stop learning!
Quinn, I could never have told from your previous posts that you were only 21. Good job, most 21 year olds these days are still leaning up against a lamp post, chewing gum, waiting for the bus (to school), sending texts and listening to rap..... And don't worry, I've got (300%) 42 years on you, and am still learning about EBT's!
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
I hate to say age has anything to do with how well someone can or can't take care of responsibilities. I'm a big believer in ignorance is NOT bliss and should never be used as an excuse.
Well I guess again I come off as the loose cannon here. But I could give a Tinker's damn what someone thinks about me for calling out a breeder that should be called out. Take it as it is offered or not. No skin off my teeth. I would feel far worse were the person that wished to hear my opinion went to that breeder and was disappointed. No hearsay....just honest, experience based observations. Take it as it is offered. Or not.
