You all know both Willie & Claxxton. I will be posting pictures for your pleasure. This will be the last time we breed Willie, as she will be fixed after this litter. She will retire, with Claxxton, as a most treasured member of our loving family.
Yep, no brendle in this lot. Pups & Mama is fine. Mama loves her babies....boys in the house are treading on thin ice. \:D/ A little dissapointed there is no brendle, but glad they are all alive & well. Thought we were going to loose the second one. He was having trouble taking his first breath. He turned blue. We just kept massaging him behind front let. Finally he changed color & started breathing . We are soooo greatful. I'll keep ya entertained with pic's for awhile
Are they already spoken for or are you going to have to suffer and keep them all! Even though that doesn't sound like suffering to me! Hopefully someone in the forum will bring a jr. Home, would be fun to watch them grow up!
and then there were 6. very sad here. we had trouble with one pup during delivery. took 30 minutes to get her to stop gasping and breath normal. she turned purple. finally she was breathing, and purple turned to pink. we have been watching her. took them to the vet today, day 5, to have dew claws removed. One pup is not using either hind legs, and not developing like others. Vet says legs are not broken, he thinks it is neurological disorder. she crys all the time. breaks my heart. =((
No, we did not put her down. Gonna see how she does the next few days. Looks like he will never walk. I don't know what can be done about neurological disorders. Gonna do some research. I did not realize the severity until I took them to the vet today. Now that's all I hear, his crying. The others use their back legs to push themselves forward to get food. He can not, so I have been putting him up to his mom. I just don't know what to do. Sorry, it is a male. My heart is broken.
Sorry to hear about your little male puppy Diane. Usually a puppy that's crying more often than they should are doing so for good reason. He may be in discomfort or pain. I must ask you you a question: Are you bottle feeding this litter? The reason I ask is because 9 out of 10 times a puppy that is crying too often or showing any signs of distress due to health or sickness will be eliminated by the mother especially in the Bull Terrier breed. A crying puppy would quickly stress the momma and she'd be picking it up with her mouth and trying to take her out of the whelping box. Unless she's an extremely good momma and pays no attention to the cries from the one puppy which I've never seen from any whelping BT mother. It does sound as though the puppy was born with a neurological problem. However, if he lives past 2 weeks of age it would mean that he has the capability to cope with the ailment. His balance and coordination may be off but he would learn to use his hind legs. I'd say he's got about a 50/50 chance of survival and in a couple weeks you should start to see him use his hind legs more. Assuming you're bottle feeding him, is he drinking enough fluids and able to urinate and defecate without any problems? I wish I was there to help you out with him. Please keep us updated on his status.

I am not bottle feeding. Willie is feeding them. The puppy does urinate and defecate without problems. As a matter of fact yesterday when I was letting Willie clean her puppy's I kept putting this female in front of her (because he is so soiled) to clean. Willie kept stretching out for a different pup. She will not clean him. And, yes, once she picked him up with her mouth, so I put the muzzel on her. I think she knows there is something wrong with the pup.
What you said is encouraging. To say he would slowly learn to use his hind legs, because right now it does not appear so. We are going to give him time, see what happens. Thanks to everyone.
I'm no expert here, but maybe it might be best if you whelp this one yourself. I think if Willie doesn't want to clean him then that's a big sign you should take him out. I don't think a muzzle can easily solve this problem.
I agree, he's going to need to be hand raised if you want to provide any chance of his survival. If Willie isn't cleaning him which will force him to urinate and deficate then he's probably stuffed up which could be one of the reasons he's crying so much. This could also kill him. Get some large cottonballs and dip them (one at a time) into warm water and rub it on his butt until he uses the bathroom. This will have to be done after each feeding. In all actually Willie is being a real good momma. You may not think so because she isn't caring for that one puppy but technically she's probably already written him off and doesn't feel the need to kill him herself. Unfortunately many BT mommas would have eaten him whole as soon as they sensed something wrong with him. I'm sure you've heard about others who lost entire litters because the momma stressed and ate all her puppies. Now you know why many breeders who don't devote to hand raising puppies when needed often don't announce the birth of their litters until they are about 2 weeks of age at which time they may only be claiming to have had 3 or 4 puppies born.

Puppy will urinate & fefecate fine, his hind quarters is covered with it. Willie did clean him tonight, just not enough. She is trying to clean all of them. Puppy is so much smaller then the others, so I am trying to be sure he gets enough to eat. I figure mothers milk is better for him that bottle, so I will put him in a pen alone with mom every 3 hours, then put them all together. I used cotton balls on all of them when they were born and Joel started bottle feeding them, because this time it took Willie 2 hours to have them all. The first was hungry. After birth was over we could put them all on mom.
I'm sorry Diane but I'm going to have to disagree with you about him defecating fine on his own. You will have to help him with it or he will die. Please research this if you don't wish to take my word on it. I've raised many litters by hand and pooped each puppy after each feeding. Yes, you probably noticed some poop coming out of him but only because his system was so backed up that some of it came out. I recommend buying some of the puppy formula made by GNC. It's very good and provides everything he needs. Bottle feeding him will also allow you to keep track of the volume of food he's consuming. Your puppy has already received the colostrum he needs from Willie who is no longer producing colostrum. By the way, having a litter of puppies (especially 7) in only 2 hours is VERY fast. I've had to wait longer than that in between puppies. Sounds like Willie is being a great momma.

The last one is a male Leslie. This is #8. Notice a dark spot above right eye, then a dark streak above left eye...like mascara. This is a female.
ha. There are only 7 puppy's. I do have 8 pic's. Now how did that happen? Guess I have two pic's of same dog. I don't know. lol
