She was found hit by a car:( she's good with kids and adults but they want to place her in a no dog household but have never seen her react to another dog whatever anyway....shes available only to south Florida home.
Your actions speak so loudly I cannot hear your words.
Leslie, they probably want her in a dog free home to keep her calm. She'd be more liable to hurt herself again getting all riled up with another dog, let alone another bullie.
Jai24.... I hope you meant "hope"..... I know there are already people that have tragedies that they probably don't deserve.... But why horrible things like tat happen to beautiful, innocent creatures, I have yet to fathom.... I mean it's as bad, if not worse, than when it happens to children... Breaks your heart.... I pray there's a forever home with some fabulous people waiting!!!

I just contacted the rescue whom posted her and this lady met her at Silverwood in Ohio last wkend but it was a curtusy posting she advised If interested contact the Miami Humane society as she is not doing well in a shelter setting awww man I wish I could pull her:(
Your actions speak so loudly I cannot hear your words.
It amazes me that they've had her for almost 6 months but don't know much about her. House Trained: Unknown. Nothing mentioned about her character or temperament. Just fancy words about her appearance. Poor girl is probably kept in an outside kennel and ignored. It's no wonder she's not doing well in a shelter. Heck she's been there for 6 months and it isn't like they are walking the dogs and spending quality time with them. They have 53 dogs in need of homes and tons of cats at this pound.

Called the shelter in Miami. Nicole, the adoption counselor, told me that Isis is aggressive around other dogs. She said that they would talk to the vet as they believe her aggression may be linked to her being protective since she is a tri-pod. That beautiful girl has had a hard row to hoe in 5 years. Told the counselor that we would really like to offer her love, comfort, and a home because she deserves it. I know Maya would not be a problem. She plays with every dog she meets. I almost broke down talking to the counselor. Why the hell do I get so emotional like that? Guys aren't supposed to do that! B-)
How heartbreaking. She's been in a shelter confinement for six months? I tried clicking on the link to see if there's an update, but couldn't get it to load properly. My husband put all sorts of filters on my computer, so it's on my end, no doubt. Bless you and Maya, Xtracho, for contacting them, and I hope it works out.
Xtracho I just wanna say Thankyou for checking into this. I know I told you guys I was done hunting dogs but I just couldn't help myself once I saw that face. I'm a softee too:/ I talked breifly with the lady who met her and she said the same. Do keep me posted on this girl. I sure hope you are able to help her as I know you have only the best to offer. I got fingers and paws crossed for this precious soul.
Your actions speak so loudly I cannot hear your words.
So...I called an animal behaviorist in Miami...they call him the "Miami Dog Whisperer"! Seeing as how the shelter knows so little about her from a temperament and behavioral standpoint, I asked them if they would be willing to go to the shelter to evaluate her. The young lady on the phone seemed quite enthused about it. She said she would talk to the staff and see what they could do for me. At this time I am waiting for an email from them with more details about what they can do, cost, etc. Hopefully they can do the evaluation that the shelter apparently has not done. Obviously the concerns for us would be how she is around other dogs and small kids like my grand daughter.
Talked to Ruth and the girls....they are all for it. We will see what happens.
There's no better home for that Bullie to go to than with Mark. I hope things work out for you and she turns out to have an acceptable temperament that will be fitting for your family.

Thanks Phil, Steve, Boyda, Leslie for the support. My heart breaks for her and I know without a doubt that she would be loved more in six months with us than she has in her first five years of life. I have already told Ruth that if all works out...when I get off the boat first of December and head home from Brazil...instead of flying to Atlanta like I normally do I will fly to Miami, rent a car, get Isis. Then she and I can have a great road trip up to Panama City Beach and her new home.
@Leslie...if you can get some info on your end about how Isis is with other dogs please let me know.
@Xtracho. I live about 2 hours from Miami. I could go by there on Saturday if you like to see her and give you my assessment, for what it's worth. Also I could talk to her about hope and comfort. If you are set on loving her I could see if we could borrow her for some sleep overs in November and, if it helps at all, bring her to Orlando, which is also about 2 hours from us. That will knock 4 hours off your driving and often flights are cheaper into Orlando... (well, a darn sight more pleasant than Miami, that's for sure)... Just ideas for you to toss around?????
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
OK...good news...the animal behaviorist in Miami has agreed to evaluate her. I just emailed them all the information. Cost is reasonable as well. She is worth that money whether we are able to adopt her or not.
The specifics of the evaluation I requested are as follows:
Overall health and temperament
Aggression towards other dogs or small children
Food and/or toy aggression
Housebroken (if possible)
Any other factors that they may deem relevant to adoption into a household with another EBT and a small child.
If anyone can think of anything else I can add please let me know.
@philsergeant...Phil I appreciate that. I would be willing to compensate you for your time and travel expense. The more eyes on her the better. The shelter is open Tuesday - Sunday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. And anything to get her out of the shelter. I am also considering contacting the Bull Terrier Rescue of Florida to see if they might be able to get her into a Foster as well. Again, I am grateful beyond words for your kind offer.
@Xtracho, I am more than adequately compensated by your big-hearted work to give her a loving home, and will do all that I can to help. I'll go by there tomorrow, I'm sure I won't need an appointment... I'll take pictures and report back.
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
I think it awesome that this group of, not really strangers but lovers of bullies can and are willing to do so much to help out!! It really pulls on the heart strings and I think it it's pretty dang cool to see y'all working together to get this baby a great home and the love she deserves!
Just off the phone with the shelter in Miami. Spoke with Nicole. She tells me that their vet recommends that Isis be adopted into a home with no other dogs whatsoever because of her tendency towards aggression.
Sorry, but I can't take that as the final word. @philsergeant....I told her that you would be coming down tomorrow to see Isis and take some photos. The person you need to ask for is Angela as Nicole is off tomorrow. Again, my thanks to you for this.
I have to wait until Monday to speak with their lead person to get approval for the formal evaluation from the animal behaviorist. So that will give us time to digest the information we receive from Phil.
According to Nicole all of their animals are housed inside. So that was a relief. She also mentioned that they do regularly exercise the dogs as well.
So...that is what I have so far. If anyone has any suggestions or advice please post. Thanks!
I know that I don't speak from experience with placing rescues or shelter animals, but to my way of thinking, it seems that it would be hard for the shelter staff to predict an animal's ability to coexist with another dog while in a shelter environment when the staff is dealing with so many animals. This particular sweetie has been there for six months and is missing a leg, so I can just imagine how she would feel in Xtracho's loving home and sweet Maya. I am praying the real expert can help not only get her a home, but a family, YOUR family.
Gee....wish I could be a fly on the wall. Think it's great what you are doing for this dog. Please be fair to your other dogs. Maybe start her out with a muzzel, just until she gets used to the new environment, and family. She will need to be reassured...which I'm sure you know. My heart goes out to her.
No doubt that my grand baby and Maya are first and foremost in priority. That is the reason for the professional evaluation and for Phil going way above and beyond the call of duty to go down and see Isis at the shelter. Even if this does not work out my efforts, along with Leslie's, are to ultimately get her out of the shelter. If that means Isis coming to be with us or with another family or a bullie rescue with a foster.
I kind of got the feeling talking to the shelter today that they have just written her off to any home that has another dog. Sorry, but I am too hardheaded to accept that as a final answer. And I tend to agree with exiled that a shelter does not seem to be the best setting for a thorough evaluation. The majority of the staff are volunteers - well meaning for sure - but far from being competent enough to provide an educated evaluation on her demeanor.
To say that I sit on pins and needles awaiting news from Phil would be an understatement.
Kim called me back but I was gone all evening so I will send her an email today to pick her brain on a foster she may have if needed. Ultimately we are waiting for phil ( you rock ) to see what he comes up with and the final word from the eval. Anxiously awaiting word. .........as Extracho said his family is the first priority here bar none and if this works or not I would not advise anyone to take on the stress that I endured with Savannah unless you have a way to separate them as Steve said. His family does not need that kind of stress with him gone. With that said I got my fingers and Brutus and Cleos paws crossed!!!!!
Your actions speak so loudly I cannot hear your words.
We are headed into the dock in Vitoria...ETA 1400 hours Brazil time. Will be awaiting Phil's report later today. @Leslie....cool with Kim...let me know what she says about a foster. I would bet you that just getting her out of the shelter environment will do wonders for her.
Spoke with Ruth last night. The girls are also excitedly awaiting Phil's report and opinion of this pretty girl. I still have to get approval from the shelter director for the animal behaviorist to do his evaluation. I cannot fathom that she would deny me that opportunity.
Isis Where to start.... First I was really impressed with her lodgings, that's a fabulous facility and she has her own big room, nice and clean and well temp controlled. (Picture #1). They take real good care of the dogs. I don't think they have much in the way of exercise facilities, but they are not stuck in a back room or shed with no visual stimulation, it's a very busy facility and people pass her room all the time. This is the face she greets them all with (Picture #2) with her tail wagging at everyone that stops. She really is a honey. According their records she's been there 5 months and is 5 years old.... (Picture #4) They don't have any record of her original owners, as the guy that hit her brought her in, so how they have her age at 5 I not know,? she seems more like 3.5 or 4 to me. She was in better shape than I imagined she would be after what she's been through, and with no love for 5 months (or longer), she's ultra friendly and gentle. She stands quite well on her three legs (Picture #3) and her coat is not bad for a white Bullie in South Florida living off Purina 1 and no extras and having had all the trauma/ drugs. Her hind legs are somewhat roughed up (#6) but nutrients and Bag Bag balm should fix that, she needs a year long subscription to Bag Balm for her nose, and the scuffing, perhaps due to unhappiness? hasn't helped. She gets around really well (#7) but she's very strong and some therapy and exercise will improve the agility more, you could see. She loves to cuddle (#8) and loves being scratched, ( I know Marco's small chest area operation is only 2 months old and he is still very ticklish there..)..( So her injuries are healing well after only 5 months and may even get to be merely "shape" deformities, if good care gets the scaring well healed ( lots of coconut oil!) She's sharp and attentive to everything going on around her ( #9). She looks a lot like our Isabella ( and a little like Maya) with an adorable face (#10). Her teeth could use a professional cleaning and her nails a good manicure (#11)... She has good body shape, not over or under weight, I'd say about 45lbs... (#12). Then she finally got bored of me (#13) and kicked me out. So, other than tons of nutrition, care and love it's a no brainer, except for the big question.... Dog aggression .... I am no expert, but here's my take.... First the staff there have made the assessment that she is "other dog intolerant", but then, without exception, they all said, "Bullies are Bully's" , and "Bullies are naturally aggressive dogs", so, what do they know. ?? She perked up a little more when dogs walked passed our "interview room", than when people did, but then our dogs do that. I asked for them to bring other dogs to the outside of our glass door so I could see how she reacted, and she did pull towards them, barked a bit, tail wagging all the time....so,.. then again our dogs do the same. So the feeling that I got was; that she missed the interaction with other dogs...not hated other dogs. And I got the notion that if thrown into Cesaer Milan's pack yard, as they often show, they wouldn't allow her to get enough "balls" to become aggressive... They'd just win her over with attention.... I can't wait to hear what the behavioral specialist would say, but I think her current physical (in)-ability to attack, would put her in danger with aggressive dogs wanting to attack HER... but whose thinking about feeding her to aggressive dogs?
