So i now have the salmon oil to add to Brunno's meal...can't wait to see results. This is the new diet that i have him on after getting rid of pro plan i know life protection isnt the best one and still has some grain in it but its way better than purina and he doesnt get bloated like he did with pro plan.
Hi, I have a 9month old Miniature Brindle & White boy who I'd like to add more muscle tone too! He weighs roughly 23kg so he is pretty big for his size. As he is only young I don't want to get him into weight pulling at the moment as his bones are still growing.
Thor is now 17mo and still lanky! Today he weighed 28kg. He's pretty tall for a bullie (22inches) but has so little muscle mass. His parents were 32 and 37kg and so we expected him to be at least in the 30s. We've been adding a cup everyday of the bullie bulking recipe we got from this forum for weeks now with little results. He's always been very fussy with food and rarely finishes his bowl. We've fed him so many different good kibble brands to see if he'll eat more, though he never does. At the moment he's on blackhawk (lamb, puppy, as our girl is still only 11 mo). Even training treats never got him really excited and he could take it or leave it (depending on how stubborn he was feeling at that moment). He's pretty active and literally plays with his ball all day (OCD style). One other thing is that just today he was diagnosed with dermatitis on his paws, and he has a nasty ear infection. The vet said these are probably related but when I suggested diet as the cause he said he didn't think so and that it was probably seasonal. Anyway we'd really love some feeding advice and specific recipes would be awesome! We'd even switch him to all raw if it is the best thing. My email is mmchu2@hotmail.com Thanks all
Greetings all! Long time without posting, but always reading this amazing forum.
We are thinking about adopting a raw diet for Otto. Not necessarily for bulking up, since I believe he's a tad overweight, but because we are convinced of its benefit.
BulliesofNC, could you please mail me those recipes you talked about? My e-mail address is rafael.terra@gmail.com .
I have an 11 month old little baby boy and I'm looking to get him the diet you have written about. He's a slender but healthy guy and hopefully it's not too late to bulk him up a bit!
He is beautiful boy in lovely condition.... Personally I love the slim look (probably because I am not) ... You could/should try the bulking diet but he is going to need lots of strength exercise to ensure it turns to muscle, not fat. Does he stay on the back seat or does he try and jump into the front? What diet is he on now? He looks great!
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
@philsergeant : Thank you so much! I run him a lot and play constantly. Probably why he's so sleek looking! He doesn't like to let go of toys (unless I tell him) so strength training could be really fun.
If I tell him to stay in the back seat he will.. but most of the time he's up with me and trying to get on my lap He also LOVES to hang out the window haha
Look into Pure Vita GF with Turkey. He's just lanky, has longer bones than your average EBT. He seems so good in the car, I would be too afraid to open the windows wide... mine hang right out.

This may not compliment the thread title but my BT has become a picky eater the older he gets. He has been on either TOTW, which is what I buy him, and sometimes Blue Buffalo Wilderness when his mom goes shopping. He has got some cooked lean ground beef and turkey mixed in with his food and of course, he does not hesitate. Sometimes he will eat normal but some days he will just walk up to his bowl, give it a couple sniffs, and walk away and wont eat much of anything that day. He does get treats but isn't overwhelmed with them. He def isn't showing any signs of starving. It just makes my girlfriend sad not to see him eat I guess and I just take it as he isn't hungry enough to eat his food. I figured someone could shine some light on this looking from the outside in that just doesn't stick out to us. Thanks
@MikeDC5 - It's easy to get a Bull Terrier spoiled by providing him or her too much food or feeding too often. Once they know the routine they can tend to get a little picky especially if they know better food is available after you've provided it to them several times in the past. The trick is to control the volume of food and base it on their activity level as well their current health, shape, and ideal weight per structure and build. In the event your Bullie turns his nose to food you should be immediately taking his food and putting it away. If it were me I would also fast him on his next meal to ensure he builds up an appropriate appetite. The objective is to have him eager to eat without him thinking he can let one meal go in order to get something better a few hours later.
We kennel Bull Terriers often when people go on vacation and leave their dog with us and I have seen many finicky eaters. But within a few days they soon learn that when it's feeding time it's not wise to walk away from a half eaten bowl of food. In due time when they see a bowl of food coming their way they are excited as can possibly be. Another key aspect is to try your best to change up the food with every meal by adding some type of additional supplement to the food whether it be raw meat, veggies, eggs, fish, or a quality can of wet food. You just need to get him excited about eating again without him getting spoiled with too much and too often.

Wow! Is he made of lead? He doesn't look like 68lbs, and that's heavy for 8 months. My kids were 29kgs up until about 18 months, Marco is now 32kg and Isabella 30kg @ 25 months.

Please I must have this bulking diet. My babies need it! I have 3 rescue bullies and they Hardly eat with so much energy. It's insane. I switched from Beneful dog food to pedigree dog food withdrawal eggs in it and I've only seen a small amount of change. And any other tips please! Dnbfloch@gmail.com
@dnbfloch... Welcome from TX!! With the limited amount that you have told us I have to first guess and believe that much more than a "Bulking Diet", what you first need is a "Good Diet". With all due respect, (to you, not the manufacturers) Beneful and Pedigree are all advertising and hardly any "food". They are hardly good enough for a Chihuahua, let alone for a Bullie. Our recommendations may change if you post some history and some photos.. age, details...etc. But meanwhile get a 5 star GRAIN FREE kibble (Like Orijien, Pure Vita, TOTW, Blue Buffalo Wilderness)... I know these are expensive... $45 to $50 for 25lbs, $2.00 a lb is tough when you have three Bullies. Gradually get them over to this quality food and then gradually add cooked veggies, raw chicken (you can switch to "stronger" raws later)... raw eggs, etc. I am sure Steve will send you the Bulking Diet... But that recipe more for a Bullie that has reached it's full potential and needs help getting to be "magnificent". We are all REALLY proud of you for adopting the rescues and will all we can do to help, believe me.

I completely agree with Phil. You need to get them on a better diet. There are many good 5 star grain free foods available.
I sent you a couple good raw meat weight gain recipes. You can provide your Bullies the raw meat balls for weight gain but I also highly encourage you to start your Bullies on a better quality food.
Geeeeez... where on earth do you get instant (FREEE) service like that????? Only from the place that loves Bullies more than anything on earth (including money).

Hey, so, I already have the recipes but I found out that most of the products are very rare in my country and/or crazy expensive and to top that, my baby Napo (1y3m) has a very fine intestinal balance and this is making hard on him to get some weight and for me to keep him healthy, as any unbalance will loose his stool for at least a week. One thing that has helped a lot is the purina probiotics, fortiflora, but that's it. The only food that he did amazing was the one that he is eating, Orijen Adult (the one with bird meat). Even though he does good on this food, I can give him too much, giving him a bit more, will loose his stool, so I have my hands tied, very tied. I tried to add some olive oil (a spoon and it causes a lose stool), I tried sunflower oil, it worked a bit, until it gave him loose stool.
I don't know what to give him, should I give him fortiflora and add something more, will the probiotics in the long run do worst than good? What are some very good probiotics (I know that yogurt does good, but he doesn't do very good with milky things (eggs included))?
I tried raw, barf, and individual ingredients, he always do bad on them. I don't know what type of foods are the most digestible and how to improve his digestion.
I would try looking at a different source of protein... I am having great success with Isabella with this Kangaroo meat.... you could get a 5lb bag shipped from manufacturer direct or Chewy.com ..... Remember with every change you would have to add slowly, add just a spoonful per day.. until it's half of his food. I know some owners that found nothing else worked until they found this.
I really have to get out of North Carolina a little more. Heck, I didn't even know they had kangaroos in California. :P
That particular flavor (Kangaroo and Red Lentils) earned a 2.5 star review. Not exactly a commendable review due to nutritional value. I thought you were having good success with Orijen?
@Steve It's like good wine blending.... Marco has (Kibble wise) 50% Orijen, 30% Pure Vita & 20% Kangaroo.... Isabella has 20% Orijen, 30% Pure Vita & 50% Kangaroo.... If there's one thing I'm not afraid of is the nutritional value my kids are getting, in fact I worry they are getting too much good nutrition... I often wonder if they are having secret poops somewhere because they poop only 50% of the volume they consume. I find the Kangaroo somewhat balances out the "other meat protein" she has ... Because, what with the raw and cooked chicken they get, it would be too much chicken for her.. And she'd get bumps and bald spots occasionally. I love America, but believe the "quality" of meat we have here generally sucks... for humans too. In Africa, ask Abau004 , you could give a Bullie 14 tons of whatever meat protein and they would just shine,. Hey, just fling out a boomerang, and I'll get some Kangaroos to hop all the way from CA to NC... hell, they hopped all the way from AUS to begin with. My wife says Isabella loves Kangaroo (and she does), because their Dad is Australian. (Just FYI, we have Ostriches from Africa and Emu's from South America here in Florida too... Ostrich meat is great).

Well I have no doubt your Bullies are in perfect health. Looking at their photos it's evident they are absolutely perfect. Come back over here for a visit and lend at hand with my gang. It's gets a little hectic with at times with my family of bullies and dedicating to all of them gets tedious but well worth the efforts.
My struggle lately has been training Scarlet to refrain from using her water bowl as a play toy when I have her in the kennel. Something about water with her has her fascinated and I think she likes it when I tell her "No!" Oh, the thrills of raising a young Bullie. Have you ever seen a Bull Terrier use their water bowl as a hockey puck? She'll lay in the pond for hours if I let her and she loves to dunk her head under water. She's a weird one but I love her. Maybe she needs a kangaroo to play around with.
- Steve Gogulski "It's not just a Dog, it's a Bull Terrier!" www.bulliesofnc.com
@BulliesofNC sophie does the same kinda thing with her water bowl even if it's full of water she will pick it up and throw it in the air and pick it up a do it over and over even if it's indoors I stopped using the metle bowls because the noise of a metle bowls smashing on the floor driving me insane so plastic all the way until there broke lol .
Marco hates water and will come very reluctantly when it's bath time. Isabella on the other hand can't stay away. When it doesn't rain and we have to top up the pool and throw the hose in it snakes around the pool and occasionally surfaces sending spray everywhere... She goes totally ape-shit ... she thinks moving water is a living creature... I'll have to take a video. And don't let her out in the yard when the sprinklers are on, she darts from one to the next trying to kill all the "water gophers". For water bowls we use those big heavy ceramic ones, they don't tip up or slide etc.
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
Seeing as this is a Bullie website we don't, and shouldn't, talk too much about ostriches.... But seeing as it's Memorial Day Weekend and in honour of all those brave souls that have given so much so we can have the freedom to love our Bullies... I would point out that by far the biggest population of ostriches in America can be found in Washington DC, ... with their heads in the sand.....
I'm really surprised Marco doesn't like water as u have that beautiful swimming pool sophie is the same a isabella loves water but the hole dose send her cranked wants to attack the water precious now does the same so both dogs have to be put inside when washing the patio u should post a video @philsergeant also we have a 10 ft trampoline sophie never paid any attention to it at all which was good until the kids next door used to throw the ball pit balls over into when it was next to there fence then she would sit on the side of the trampoline waiting for them to throw more in now she thinks the outside of the trampoline is a race track doing bully runs all around but actually on the outside of it crazy dog them bowls are a good idea
