Tick Side Effects

I had heard about this before and ran accross an article today.  Worth noting this is about humans but effects may pertain to our beloved Bullies as well.  There are cases about humans being allergic to red meat after being biten by ticks.  http://www.foxnews.com/health/2013/06/12/tick-bites-are-making-people-allergic-to-red-meat-researchers-say/?test=latestnews

For that to be happening to people is pretty scary. If I couldn't eat red meat I'd be very upset!

However with dogs, I would think they are very unlikely to have these types of reactions from a tick due to their digestive system being so different than that of our own. Although dogs are susceptible to getting lyme disease so it's apparent they aren't bullet proof from the ill effects of ticks.

That's a scary article Craig and I hope it doesn't become a widespread problem.

  • Mrs. Paranoia here should probably not have read that article. I already freak the heck out because of all the ticks. One case of Lymes in the house is enough this year. I have pulled 4 off Apollo now and I lost track of the ones pulled off Chris. I've not found any attached to the kids or myself. I want to spray the yard but there is just so much of it. Seems pointless, we live in the woods, there's ticks. Anything I can add to Apollo' s food to make him less tasty?
  • My first thought was Chris on this article I posted above.  Here is an article on some natural things you can do.  http://www.petmd.com/dog/wellness/evr_multi_flea_control .  Our outside dog runs are 10X24 and I have 5 of them.  That is @1250 SQ ft.  It is all grass and I weed eat it weekly short to prevent flea/tick.  I also spray the entire area monthly along with @30 ft around the area.  I will post the product name after I get home.  I also spray 30 ft around the house.  The girls have cedar chips for bedding which keeps a good scent on them for when running in the back area.  I do not have trees over their runs.  Also bathing them with Dawn and Oral Trifexis I usually do not see any ticks or fleas.

  • Chris has thankfully not had any reaction to beef or pork. That would be torturous for the poor man. LOL!! We have that wine and beer store in town and I know for a fact they sell brewers yeast. I'll have to make my way out there because the ticks are getting a little out of hand. The last one I pulled off him was so tiny I almost missed it. when he takes afternoon naps I make sure to check him from head to toe and then back up again. Apollo, not Chris. Haha!

Reminds you of that Brad Paisley song:

Ticks by Brad Paisley music video | Slack-Time

In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
  • You might want to start checking Chris!! :))
