Gus Ear Glueing

I had to look for an alternative to ear taping. So I looked up ways to
glue the ears because any taping I do Claxxton will surely rip off. In
the case that I need to do long term taping I didn't want to have to
worry about moisture being trapped in the ear or irritation due to tape. So I decided to do a test run with ear gluing and it seemed to have worked. People were telling me I needed to get his ears up now because they look big and heavy. It's not uncommon for bigger boned dog's to have a harder time getting their ears up. This was just a test run so the next time I glue them I will most likely add a piece of yarn to the inserts and than tie them together to bring the ears closer to the middle of his head to help his ear set be more correct. For now, I just wanted to get them prick. He looks so funny!

  • Oh bless him he looks adorable god he has very big paws gonna be a big boy .
  • Thank you and also I used this video for my idea

The only difference is I used skin glue since I could not find the glue she was using. Next time I do it I will add the yarn like she has to bring them closer together as I don't want them to set so far apart on the head.
  • Just watched it how good was that this is a whole new world to me lol god am I glad sophies ears were up I wouldnt of had a clue id be sending her to u guys to sort it for me pmsl .

I really think she may have left out the main ingredient in the video! What did she have the puppy smoke before the show? I mean the dog's so calm.... I can't frankly see this working, or lasting, on a BT... But if it works for you Danielle, then I'm definitely going to give it a try... I think they'll bite them off... Need a head cone at the very least.... But right now, I'll try anything.
P.S. Gus looks like you're paying him model fees already... He's such a poser... Is this a prelude to splitting the stud fees with him? 3:-O

  • Phil I think this gluing will work, its been working all day. You have to touch up the glue on the ends though as it starts to lift. The ear with the two pieces of inserts is still fine, the one with one started to flop, so I added another piece on the other side of the ear and its doing much better. I like this already much more than to taping. Some people think taping is the only way to go. But I know taping will be a waste of time with this boy and claxxton playing.

Also, my friend has been taping her female bull terriers ears diligently for the last two months and shes 6 months now!. One ear continues to flop and now the ears are red and irritated from being taped so long. I was looking for her for other ways to do this. Thats how I found the ear gluing and decided I was going to try it out.

I think, I hope, I MAY have found a solution to Marco's ears. I put together a hybrid mix of various ideas and (it's only 8 hours already, but holding) I think it may work.... The main thing is it's hardly bothering him at all.
I tried to find the Zinc Oxide non-flexible tape in Steve's video, but could only find something close in US... called "Rigid Strapping Tape", it sticks like crazy, is light and doesn't pull all the hair out. I cut one shape smaller than outside of the ear. Taped it to the back of the ear with a Qtip underneath, and then took one strip, put my finger inside the ear as a holder... and strapped around once. It looks pretty fundamental but with nothing INSIDE the ear, it doesn't bother him. With the ears separate they can move, like they naturally do when they are "listening" in different directions.... and if it holds I believe it MUST work.... see pictures...

Ingenious! What ever it takes is perfectly good. Continue pouring a package of know gelatin on his food which will help harden that cartilage. Those ears are going to be perking sooner or later and when they do it will be worth all the efforts!!

I'm exhausted..... (if this fails) My next plan is to rig a clothesline outside my bedroom slider and teach him to sleep hung by his ears with clothes pegs !!!

Despite the ear pads, I think this picture of "Gus, the Flying EBT", is about the cutest puppy pic on Earth!
You gotta let me know if that works too.

This tape is awesome.... after 3 days he hardly even knows it's there... and it sticks like crazy and is very light.  If it works I think I'm going to patent the idea  B-) Plenty of roughhousing and it got wet once, still going... i hope I don't have to break out my dremel to get it off! Even near the edges, where the Qtip is, it doesn't peel.
