My Moose still has episodes Tina, no relief and I’m conflicted and impatient
Always after exercise and a great day out...awful ending for my Moosey
Yes our bullies always keep us busy with little issues lol hope it clears soon. Memphis has some paw issues just have to keep an eye on it
Keep well
Enjoy your Billie
Memphis wouldn’t leave this heavy plank of wood lol it was not a throwing stick but he couldn’t understand this
trying to find link with seizures
I’ve been getting more info from CBD supplier as it’s day 18 and there’s no effect. I can buy full spectrum but isolate CBD was the first option to use. I’ve contacted my vet and I can still up the dose but she wants to do bloodwork again.
I actually bumped into a nice informative lady who suggested worming him as these nasties can cause seizures. I hadn’t wormed him for ages as I was going down the route of natural gut health to deter the worm environment they like. It was an awful thought he may have a sinister worm so I rushed out to buy the medicine she recommended and he will get this tomorrow. I hope he doesn’t get worse whilst on this medicine as you know too he is sensitive. I’ve noticed moose is more grumpy on CBD but this could be seizure related too.
He does however have a great happy time on the beach and after his episode he comes good and is back to jumping around.
He is a worry for me Tina.
Hey I was asked by a lady if I was a dog trainer lol as my boys look exceptionally well behaved and controlled I’ll take this as a compliment tina
I will keep you up to date on how the following days go for us. Enjoy Billie time
I didn't even think about worms causing seizures, but after I read your post, I did some quick research and indeed, they can cause seizures. I hope he doesn't have any reactions to the medication and he gets better.
That's awesome that they thought you were a trainer- That's the best compliment:) It always makes me feel good and proud when people compliment how well behaved Billie is :x
Today was better for Moose, no seizure.
I wormed him too. Should I do Memphis, they say you should do maybe this morning for him. Also the more you read the more you find out lol. I was reading about MSM which they have, and this is also good regarding gut health etc.
I really don’t think it is worms but I have to make sure.
Memphis’ paw is showing the signs of the blistering look which Moose had omg same foot too I’m doing the CS and balm as I detest the foot soak but I will monitor it closely. Moose’ right ear has a slight infection but the CS works quick so I’m doing this too. Gee my boys keep me busy and the minute you don’t check thoroughly through their bodies, minor things pop up and you play ‘nurse’
How’s Billie’ health ...... paw etc and your arm now? How is the heat for you two?
We got rain coming again
Found an old pic of my snugglers in bed xx
I know what you mean, I check Billie from head to toe everyday to make sure she's ok and if not, I play nurse too, lol. They sure do keep us busy!!
My arm is completely healed
Billie's break out is slowly healing, but there's a cluster of bumps/pimples that are like knots. I've been treating the area with a antiseptic/antifungal solution and also putting a cotton bandana underneath her collar to prevent further irritation during out walks. I hope it clears up soon and she doesn't go bald in those areas!
We went on our walk early this morning while it was cooler out , but towards the end, she wanted to go back home, lol
I'm glad that Moose had a seizure free day and I hope Memphis's paws get better soon
My boys don’t sparkle like Billie and they rock a rust stain on their coats from the harness they’re always in the saltwater and I don’t use shampoo so it’s hard to really clean. When it’s warmer I’ll get onto it.
Moose has had three days no episodes and I did worm him and Memphis. Too early to see if it’s this of the CBD kicking in. The vet didn’t think it is worms that cause his seizures. I’ll have to go and do bloods soon for my Moose.
Had a great day today
Memphis carries and retrieves the most heaviest toys loves his swim, he’s a really strong pup :o3
Billie hasn't been wanting to walk lately, I shoot for 2 miles in the morning and 2 miles in the evening, but after 1.5 miles, she calls it quits and wants to come home, lol. I don't push her because it's been hot and the uv index has been 10 out of 10. I'm going to have to start walking her at the butt crack of dawn when summer hits! Like other EBT's, she doesn't do well in extreme heat
He looked everywhere for us once we went thinking I’ll go on his terms.....I hope it got the message
It was so easy with Memphis, such a good boy off leash with his beloved stick
Did you get a security messsge upon loading ? Expired website?
Well it’s on again for me.
Hope you’re doing well and Billie of course
I tried logging on yesterday and I got the same security alert- figured it would be fixed by today:)
I’ve never had experience with these only knew kennels or indoor luxury of couches, beds, bodies etc
It’s never too hot for a body hug Tina....I dread the next summer with moose n Memphis trying to cuddle up in our bed, I don’t have AC so it’s gonna be uncomfortable.
My daughter took that pic as she was puppy sitting as I finally had my sons birthday party after lockdown. Yes it was a different pic from the ones I take. Billie and her ball is a cute shot. I also can see her little paw sores. It’s hard to maintain good footsies. Do you know how to overcome the dark nails. I know this is allergy related but it’s so stubborn. Moose’ are slowly changing but one nail is half black and white. I can’t up the DE as he’ll be constipated and idk anymore with allergy triggers i have to find a happy medium and just enjoy them but still limiting the seizure concern of course. They both had a great afternoon and no seizure a relief for both of us. I’ve been lazy doing the second evening dose as I fall asleep and tonight’s the second night. Maybe he doesn’t need this dose, I’ll see tomorrow. I hope it’s not too hot. Does Billie like the shower, some dogs do apparently but we don’t like the wet dog smell indoors!
Glad the security msg was fixed. Chat again
As far as showers, she loves it! I give her one once a week.
Billie has a few brown marks on her nails, but everything I have done doesn't really help it. At this point, I just try to prevent and manage her allergies the best I can.
I'm glad to hear Moose is doing better
This is a pic of when she was 3 months old and the allergic reaction after she played in the grass for the first time. So now, I just keep her protected with clothes/shoes when needed and keep her off the grass. I feel bad she can't fully enjoy the outdoors, but we manage the best we can
Yes all we can do is manage the allergies the best we can. I know I will not get 100% clearance and this is being realistic lol
As long as they have happy times being a dog or maybe a human
Thankyou for your comments on the other posts
Did I send this funny pic?
Billie's head/neck break out is almost healed and thank God, she didn't get a bald spot from it!
Great news it’s going for you but my boys have persistent little spots I cannot heal
Good days for my Moose
Our walks have been rough too...she goes into full aggressive/attack mode when we walk by a house where the dogs are aggressively barking from the house and she tries to lounge full force towards them and when I hold her by her leash, she tries to redirect it towards me. I thought maybe by working with her to calm down in those situations would eventually click for her, but now I'm scared she's going to bite me. My trust in her has been broken since the last time she bit me. I'm trying not to take things personal, but I'm having a really hard time with it.
I hoping she gets better and learns to control herself. In the meantime, I'm avoiding the houses where I know she has issues with.
I hope you and the boys are doing well
First I have to ask how is her health? Any issues there? If nothing I have to reassure you through this phase... which I hope you’ll manage fingers crossed. Is she in heat?
Please stay positive through this challenging phase but I hope you get better strategies and advise from experienced owners as I’m not too sure what to say but that you are trying very hard. I too have challenging times always with Moose not Memphis as yet
Hope to hear better times for you tina
Billie has a lot of fear and she is very vocal about it ( she cries like she's being beaten or attacked, it's so embarrassing!) She's been like that since she was a tiny puppy. I thought she would grow out of that, but nope! She still cries SO LOUD!
I just want her to be comfortable and confident in any environment/situation.
As far as her attacking random objects, I honestly don't know what her deal is with that, but it needs to stop.
I have hope that she will get better as she gets older. She has come a long way since she was a puppy and her behavior has improved tremendously, but she still has some kinks to work out.
I'll continue to work with her and love her through it. I just need to remain calm and patient as I am the only person she has.
Thank you for your support and encouragement:)
Btw, those pics totally made me smile! Such great photos!
It's a bad position when you are the one who corrects and she lashes back at you. You have to be alpha. McKenzie has the same issue without the aggression. She will whine loudly at the pet store when another dog poses a threat or so she thinks. Let me say, she has only bitten me once. I corrected her and scolded her very much. To the point that she would have cried if she could. Now when that type of situation arises, she looks to me for the guidance. She still looses her mind periodically. But she understood I was having nothing to do with her behavior. It's a rough place to be when you can't control the actions of your BT. Put that foot down and let her have it when she is being that way. She has to know it is unacceptable. Also, turn right around and walk the other way. I have mine turn around and sit. If she does not sit, we walk further away and sit. Until she does. Then you know you got through. Because sitting in one of the actions you taught her. Now you try again tomorrow. She will eventually get it. Some of these BT's need a firm crack on the ass to get their attention. Some are so easy going, they never need to be corrected so harshly. You have to mean it when you do it and don't say your sorry. She should be saying that, not you. Control is a double edged sward. Do you want a well behaved dog or a dog that walks all over you because you are a pushover? I think you know where this is all going.
Good luck and best wishes, Bill
Thank you for your advice and suggestions, it's very much appreciated
My question to you is, HOW did you reprimand McKenzie when she bit you? I would like to know the exact technique/method for correcting and scolding so I can nip it in the ass here on out.
I'm pretty strict with her when it comes to correcting and following through with her, but clearly there are some bad behavior issues she still needs to work out.
Billie is my first EBT and my first dog as an adult, lol. I've worked so hard and put in a lot of time and love with this girl, lol. She's so crazy sometimes and drives me mad, but I love her to pieces! I'm determined to work through these behavior issues! Shes a smart girl, but stubborn as all hell.
Thank you again for your help
Some may not agree with my method, but after the first EBT, I have a firm method for aggression. She hurts me and I yell OUCH! If she has not caught on and pushes harder. A swift swat on the ass and ignoring her for about 10 minutes. That means no "I'm sorry" or "Okay, you are a good girl" All she gets is ignored and no attention for 10 minutes. After that, carry on to whatever you were doing, if she approaches, pet her head. But the ignoring kills them. They want you to play and touch them so bad. This is where you gain the edge. The swat on the ass is to get the attention off of whatever it is that caused the aggression. The ignoring is where you gain the ground. From that point on, They pretty much listen for the OUCH. If that happens, mine sits and looks at me for guidance. This is what I want. No unwarranted anger woopin' like my Dad used to do to me. Just the shear fact that I mean business. All I want is for her to fall into line and listen when she is overly hyper. She gets it too. I truly believe that she respects me for being Alpha. Looking to me for leadership and being the giver of food, love and companionship. My wife says I am a no bullshit kind of person. Too kind to hurt a person or dogs feelings on purpose. But push me too far and I can be the worst part of that person or dogs day. I don't demand respect by any means. I earn every bit of it. Then stick by the rules. I also am not too proud to apologize when I am wrong. But the dog demands that I be right, even when I am wrong. No mixed signals for my best friend. She is not perfect, but she is perfect to me! I will be her leader and her friend forever.
Sorry for being long winded. I like to let people know that I am not mean or harsh. I want what is best for everyone. I was the abused child when I grew up, I will not treat anyone or thing that way.
You're welcome, It may not be a simple as some think, to get a well behaved EBT. These are the things that work for me.
Thank you for taking the time to respond back with helpful tips. I don't think your methods are mean or harsh at all and I'll be implementing your suggestions with Billie. I can be a softy at times, especially when she gets in big trouble and she's sulking in the corner...don't get me wrong, I do follow through, but when I call her over after she sits in her corner for a while, I'll give her extra love and tell her to be a good girl, lol. I guess I need to remain neutral even after. She's so smart, but when she's overly excited or fixated on something, that's all she's focused on. I need to find a method to snap her out of that state when it happens. It has been a learning experience for both Billie and I.
Thank you again for your help Bill
You are honing in on what has to happen. Get her to listen to you and never take the aggressive whining too personal if she reflects it back at you. Just let her know who's the boss and what you expect. She is like all other EBT's Stubborn, Smart, Powerful, Mouthy and a Ball Energy and love. They are smarter than we give them credit for. She is young and has a lot more learning to do. You got this thing. Be firm and patient, it will pay off.
:-j
I’m glad Boomer gave you some helpful tips and that you are in a better place with Billie as I write.
Moose has had four day break from seizures but it is touch n go as I dabble with the dosage, really don’t know what I’m doing but I anticipated a speedier result for him.
I will be changing for a different product next time (full spectrum) to see if this is more suitable and adding additional supplements too. Still haven’t booked the vet, costs are mounting
Hoping you and Billie are getting on well or slowly overcoming your challenges at least
Fingers crossed Tina
I hope Moose's health condition gets better soon, I know you've been doing your best to find a remedy and solution for his needs. The vets here have been swamped as well. I need to make an appointment for Billie's annual checkup and vaccines as she is due for them at the end of the month.
I hope you guys are enjoying the cool weather
Thank you again for your kind words of encouragement
I hope when you read this that things are improving for you both. How old is Billie again, sorry to ask Tina I’m lazy going back through our threads lol
Well Moose had a seizure today he had a 6 day break at least. Poor boy had his little tongue sticking out and was uncomfortable for awhile. He wanted to walk through the last stage and just kept going, I panicked to retrieve him as I didn’t know what to expect as he is off leash....I run, Memphis runs thinking we’re playing lol but is was short lived. Moose came through and was back to play mode but struggled on the last stretch home.
That’s us up to date Tina.
Take care keep up the good work and chat soon
Omg, I'm sorry to hear Moose had another seizure, that must be so scary when it happens, poor baby I hope he is ok. I hope the vet is able to figure out what's causing it and help him get better.
Billie is doing better, she's 15 ½ months old. She ate baby wipe the other day (I'm usually really careful not to leave anything out that she can eat/swallow, but I left one out on the counter top and she just helped herself to it) I tried to pull it out if her mouth, but she quickly swallowed it. I called the vet and they said it should pass. Long story short, she didn't pass it , she vommitted it up this morning! The wipe was in her stomach for 2 days! So crazy! Im relieved that it's out of her system and she's ok
Glad it’s out of her system
So Billie is just behind in age from Moose, he’s 17 months....I knew they were close though.
Did you see the massive Bully OMG we have it easy hey?
Take care you two
I have to watch the stick consumption with Memphis as he chews them down when he retrieves them for another throw and yes they do surface out the other end along with the grass you have to pull out sometimes
Eeek
Omg on the corn cobb story Bill! Thats insane she passed the cobb whole! McKenzie sounds a lot like Billie I think she would be cussing too, haha
I have a cruise coming up in November and my brother and sister in law agreed to babysit Billie for a week, but I'm seriously having second thoughts on it bc they have two little kiddos and a crap ton of toys and such she can eat/swallow. Knowing myself, I would be too worried to enjoy my trip, so I think I'm going to board her for a week with profe#sssionals. That way I know she's safe and I can have peace of mind and enjoy my vacae
At what age do they start calming down- was it 3 years?! Lol
Bill, that's insane Murphy ate a corn cobb and passed it whole! McKenzie sounds a lot like Billie and I think she would be cussing too if she could talk, hahaha.
