Bald spots and Lumps. PLS HELP!

Hello! I have a White 1 year old bull terrier and we live in Peru. I thought it was because of the chicken I gave her with her kibble so I change it for lamb and the medicine (prednisone) the vet prescribed her only worked for some days. Now there is a lot of bald spots and lumps all over her body :(.
Last year in September she had 3 big bald sposts. She was skin scraped positive for demodectic mange but she didn’t have lumps . She had injections for 2 months and the hair grew back.
Maybe She has demodectic mange again?

Also sorry for my english. It’s not my first language.

  • She might be gluten sensitive. Try to avoid any food with wheat or grains. Usually 2 weeks is enough to know if the dog has gluten allergy. Coconut oil helps too.

    Hi,

My late mini bull terrier had demodectic mange that would come and go. Every time the mange would come back, it would start with the little bumps just like your picture. Then the bumps would become flat, the hair in those areas would thin, and the skin would become a bit irritated.

From the time I got him from the breeder at 2 months old, I fed my dog a raw diet, but what really made a difference was adding probiotics + coconut oil to his food. I also put some coconut oil on his skin and it seemed to help. He had demodectic mange all his life but once he matured, his immune system was able to fight off the mange and he would only get a small spot once in a while.

I'm not a vet, but my suggestion is to avoid steroids because they can weaken your dog's immune system. The steroids will make the mange go away for a short time, but it can come back much worse.

Hope this helps and good luck with your dog!

My dog who passed away had really bad allergies. We tried Zignatures kangaroo and his skin cleared up, the spring in his step came back. It really saved his life. Good luck.. these things are trial and error. I did read a UK article about a bull terrier rescue and how he treated mange. It was amazing! Hmagger I think you right about the steroids!

Hi... I was about to post about the same problem that my puppy is experiencing at the moment. He is a 9 month old and also white. Just like the poster I fed him some cooked chicken + broth with his kibble for a couple of weeks now. He loves it but his coat now looks very similar to the pictures above.

I do too think it is maybe because of the chicken but did not make the switch to a different protein yet. The kibble I feed him is a high quality Farmina kibble and it's a chicken and pomegranate. He is on Farmina since he was a baby with no problems but only recently I started to add cooked chicken to it.

Mary1803.. how's she doing? Is she doing any better since you switched to lamb?

  • Just a thought go to the link on Nutrition and diet . Mine has allergies and I switched to victor and nuvet supplements and the paw chewing has decreased. Beautiful dog love the ears :)

Thanks Corey! I was looking into Victor but most of their food has chicken meal which I'm trying to avoid. I recently bought Taste of the Wild High Prairie puppy formula with Bison and Venison but just found out there is currently a law suite pending against this brand with scary allegations so I threw it away.

Basie now has a bald patch on the top of his head and today especially it is very noticeable. :(. Taking him to the vet next week so will see.

  • it's all about the diet. I feed my dog Nuvet and Victor dog food with different meat, I switch is off from day to day. Your dog my might have issues with the chicken source. Every dog is different you have to see what work's for your dog. I feed my dog chicken leg quarters with no problem. Perfect poo... and he does not have bumps, skin issues or baldness. So switch it up and see what works for your dog :)
  • We are dealing with the same issue with Rambo. We had a diarrhea issue back in November. He ended up with Giardia, so anti parasite meds, then flagyl, so the vet put him on a Royal Canin GI diet. He had been on Taste of the Wild since born and so this was new to him. It stopped the diarrhea but then his fur started falling out and having hives. We figured he is sensitive to grass and will get a red rash when he rolls in in on this tummy. Well I started to investigate and turns out that there are so many grain products in the Royal Canin food!!!! So now he is on a cooked raw diet, it’s been a week, I don’t see any improvement but it isn’t getting worse.

As for topical, I’ve used zinc cream, hydrocortisone cream, coconut oil and colloidal silver. No luck yet. So we are just hanging in there and continuing to figure out what the issue is and hoping his fur grows back soon! :(

Something you need to keep in mind is that when a Bull Terrier has a weak immune system they will be far more prong to allergies and other health issues. The key is to strengthen the immune system so these ailments never affect them to begin with. NuVet comes with a guarantee. ;)

One other thing to check is any medication she is receiving, even heartworm or tick/ flea meds. These in particular can cause irritation. Also any supplements. Also how frequently and with what shampoo you use.
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.

RamboSilvaBully... I hope Rambo is doing much better and his bald spot is filling in. Would be good to hear how he is doing now.

I wanted to give an update on Basie. His bald spot has filled in but the hair that grew back is weird and short and doesn't match the rest of his head. So that spot is still visible but not bald anymore. The spots on the body have healed also and now he has a soft and shiny coat again.

Unfortunately, I still not quite sure what caused it but there are few things that I'm doing differently now and it seems to work well for him. I switched from Farmina to Victor although I doubt that Farmina had anything to do with his spots. Every day for breakfast I add a full tablespoon of 5% cottage cheese or kefir to his kibble. I don't feed him rice or any grains as I did before. I do give him raw chicken necks, backs, organs and egg as a treat few times a week. Every day tiny sliced carrots and apples are a must. Also few drops of Salmon oil every day. That's pretty much it and so far so good. I want to say it was a reaction to grain but again not so sure.

  • My 2 bull terriers have the bald spot on their heads and base of tail the vet had taken skin scrapes but nothing showed up it was nly when I joined here that Steve explained to me that Bull terriers have scent glands on their heads and tail and this is what causes the baldness or very short harsh hair,he explanined that it is quite common in EBT
  • Sorry only just looked at your pic's and it's exactly the same bald spot that my 2 have

Put some iodine on those bald spots.

  • 20 yrs ago had a dog like that. Vets called it staff & caflex ( penicillin) did help. Getting him off grain feed also helped, but it took months to show. He would also get the bald spots that I never had any real success with.
    Best regards,
