A second bullie for company.

We are thinking of getting a second bullie to keep our bullie company. Terra seems so increadibly demanding for attention. I work and study from home. I'm with her 24/7. But I don't spend 24/7 patting her. I'll sit with her for hours and pay or play, and I walk her. But it doesn't seem enough and she gets bored.
Due to this we were thinking of getting a second bullie so they can occupy each other.
Is this a wise choice or not a good idea?

  • Also, I've stopped socialising Terra at the dog park because of how many aggressive dogs are taken there and how irresponsible these owners always are. So our Terra rarely gets to play with other dogs. She loves other dogs and has a brilliant temperament. I was thinking if we get a puppy then hopefully the other bullie will be ok with not being the only dog in the family (which I have read can be an issue for bullies)

There's only ONE thing better than a Bullie... That's two Bullies... They love each other so much ... I'd get a young boy... you'll get more of a Mom/ Son relationship and you will need to teach him to "behave" himself.... but like every other Bullie behaviour... If you catch it quick and strong and consistently, it won't be a problem.
imageP.S. They are fast asleep there, so there's nothing "going on"

  • I have my 2 and I'm happy I did it this way
  • She's just so demanding. She has her nose in my face at every opportunity and follows my heel everywhere. I'm ok with her following me, but the constant attempts at getting a pat is exhausting. When I need to focus due to time constraints I feel bad for putting her outside. So I was thinking a fur companion may take some of the brunt. Who knows, it could double the issue.

Total devotion to owner... at least you don't have to check her papers to know you have a genuine EBT

  • Hi there Jbird.
I tried it with my BT at 6 months old.
We introduced him to a 6 months old female boxer on the park and they hit it off straight away.

Day 1, All good, lots of play time and sleeping together.
Day 2, My BT is showing less interest in the Boxer and acting a little strange.
Day 3, My BT is a quivering wreck. Crying, hiding, spinning, biting his own legs and flank.

I took the Boxer straight away to a friends house where she lives full time now and my BT returned to his normal crazy self almost instantly.
I guess he wasn't too happy about sharing his humans and it was heartbreaking to see him so stressed.
A very expensive exercise but glad that both dogs are happy.

Hope everything turns out well for you.

Wow, that's a strange story.... would have thought the boxer would do the quivering.... But at least you chose the right one to keep

  • Very strange indeed Phil.
Nev, my BT, and Brandy the Boxer, got together again just a couple of weeks ago at the dog beach.
There were dogs running up and down everywhere and Nev was having a great time playing with them.

As soon as my friend arrived with Brandy.....Nev changed.
He was totally focused on Brandy and full of bad intention even though they hadn't seen each other for 6 months.
Never seen anything like it before Phil.

    Bull Terriers.....gotta love 'em.
    :)
  • Best mates for a day and a bit.

There is one dog in our neighborhood, (two actually but they look identical so she thinks it's one) that Isabella hates, goes nuts every time his jogger brings him by..... Otherwise she loves every other dog.... Goes to show, don't piss a bullie off, they are unforgiving.  Nev is beeeeaaauuutiful  (I'm sure I musta said that before)  .... Brandy's loss.

I think a Bull Terrier would be lost without a pal to run and play with.

Love the cartoon snap Steve.... The "we are hungry " part goes well with all those ribs sticking out from those under-nourished tikes!

  • Yep I agree with Steve. Terra loves other dogs immensely and it saddens me that I can't play her with other dogs because of incapable owners.

I have two male bullies, chooba was 2 when I brought boomer home,. And there was a small transition period when choobz had to learn to share my attention. Bullies have their own style of play,. So combining one with a more docile breed may not be the best combination.
I also think personality compatibility is just as important as anything else.
My boys are polar opposites. Which is good being that boomer has opened chooba up in a way,. And chooba can calm boomer down when he's spazzin at shadows.
Being at work all day,. It's nice to check the camera and see them sleeping in a bully Pyle,. And to watch them play.
Just like kids though,. I have to mak a point to have one on one time with each while the other is distracted.

    Overall good decision.

@chooba Your boys are just too much loved and too beautiful... But it's okay, I know they make you feel whole each day... and that's what's important.  It's kinda a special thing that people that don't have it can never truly understand, no?
