HELP!
I recently adopted a six to eight year old EBT. She is all white except for an ear. She has known allergies to chicken and turkey.
She is currently eating call of the wild salmon and sweet potato it is causing her a lot of gas and gastrointestinal distress, her stools are very mucusy indicating that her gut is irritated.
The Foster was feeding her pet mix rehydrated with ground beef & water without any problems. When the Foster decided to turn her over to the rescue they suggested that she feed her call of the wild salmon and sweet potato. I have always had my dog on lamb meal and rice by diamond. They do not have any kind of problems and they like it but I could not feed it to her because it does have some chicken fat listed in the ingredient label. Actually many kibble food that say they are chicken free have some form of chicken listed in the ingredient label!!! She is not allergic to any grains that I am aware of... But I would like to stay away from grains to err on the side of caution... Today out of sheer frustration I want to several stores and read all the ingredients on several bags of kibble. I opted for a very small bag of seven fish, I haven't given it to her yet I'm considering taking it back in the long run I am not going to be able to afford a $75 25lb bag of designer dog food. I am saying this because I also feel taken advantage of because I am allergic to gluten and wheat... So not that I need a bag of cookies but if I were to go buy a bag of cookies that were gluten and wheat-free they would be five times more expensive than regular cookies... I have a real allergy but they are taking advantage of me because of all the Paleo gluten-free Posh movement and now it seems the dog food industry has also caught on...
I thought maybe it was the sweet potatoes causing the distress... Because I have read on other threads about the potato yeast connection... But the Foster said sweet potatoes were also in the petmix...
Any suggestions on a chicken free turkey free grain free kibble and I won't have to sell one of my kidneys for? I mean it's really nice that they're putting all these great ingredients in the dog food but if my dog were in the wild I don't think it would be digging up sweet potatoes blueberries spinach kale flax seeds and so forth I think you get what I'm trying to say...

I can understand not beef... although a lot of people feed beef and fish, mine HATE fish (or rather fish hates them).
Next I do not know personally that she is allergic to chicken or turkey but the Foster that she came from was very adamant about it. I didn't even want to go "there" given all the stress that Phoebe must be going through right now. She was with the same owner I think for eight years and they died. I don't know the whole story but I do believe she was in pretty bad shape and she was in the pound before she was with the Foster. The Foster has had experience with bullies so I just kind of went with her word. I guess the Foster decided Phoebe was not right for her family because she has children that visit often with smaller dogs and Phoebe is... I wouldn't say that she's not a dog friendly but obviously she's a bully and she likes to play VERY rough... I would say that she doesn't have the best of manners as I have I witnessed firsthand on short walks.
Anyway back to the diet. So the Foster got connected with a rescue and before placing her with us they suggested that the Foster transition her over to Taste of the Wild Pacific stream canine formula with smoked salmon a grain-free diet. The Fosters verbalize that she thought it was giving Phoebe a lot of gas and for me to discern what was best for her. So after observing a couple of her stools and noticing that they were very mucusy coupled with the extreme gas I determined she was not tolerating the fish or the potato???
I contacted the Foster about the pit mix she was on. It does have potato in it so I'm not so sure that that was causing the problem... Although I have read other post about the possible yeast problems and potato connection.
I will tell you Phoebe will eat anything she is not picky or finicky!!!
Here are the ingredients to the pet mix that she was on I guess she was mixing it with ground beef. I'm kind of thinking if it's not broke don't fix it and maybe I should just order the pet makes it is not something that is available here in Ohio but it can be ordered online from Michigan. But if I could find a decent kibble that she could tolerate it would make my life a little easier right now. I do believe that most kibble is crap although foods like seven fish seem a bit outrageous.
I had rescue bullies many many years ago and I have to be honest I don't know what I feed them but they were fine and it was probably crap because I wasn't as educated back then. I have had smaller dogs since and they have always done really well on the lamb meal and rice by diamond. I'm not really sure where Diamond falls in the range of quality but I will say it worked for those dogs. But alas Phoebe is not "those" dogs.
So right now I am feeding her 50/50 one cup in the morning half California and natural limited ingredient lamb meal and rice other half I am trying to finish up Diamond natural grain free white fish and sweet potato formula. And another cup 50/50 in the evening with coconut oil. Her stools seem better and I don't notice hardly any gas but she does seem a tad itchy. I thought the rice would be okay for Phoebe because the Foster did mention she had given her rice before when she had gotten sick from eating an unknown gross item on a walk.
So with all of that being said by looking at the pet mix and adding a protein Source do you think this would be optimal for her or do you think that all of that is unnecessary?
I will definitely keep your suggestions for front.
Since she is not having any terrible problems with the 50/50 mix that I'm doing right now I'll probably keep her on it until it's gone unless something bad starts up or you think that is a terrible idea.

Like I said The Fosters said she was doing good on it and it was something she has always fed her bullies...
I myself have never been a fan of flax anything because flaxseed is estrogen dominant in humans. Phoebe is obviously spay but I don't like anything messing with hormones. Also it seems like bananas would be a lot of sugar expecially coupled with sweet potato and Apple...
Any experiences knowledge suggestions feel free to be blunt I am not faint of heart.
THANK YOU!
