Best Collar Type for Bull Terrier Puppy

Hi! We're the owners of Seymour, a 3 month old male EBT puppy. He's just about to finish his vaccination schedule and we want to start taking him out for walks (we've done a few, but with a harness, but we've read up and the harness isn't helping his tendency to pull or stand completely still). Wondering if there are any suggestions on the best collar type for a bully?

Aside from the nipping which we've almost got under control, and the chewing anything he can get his mouth on, finding a way for him to walk without dragging us along would be the next step in his training (and would save my shoulder from soreness).

Thanks a bunch!

  • We use a martingale collar on our young ebt, which doesn't prevent the pulling, only training will do that, but it helps a bit. As far as standing completely still at 3 months...good luck!

Hi, there are lots of different collars and leads for different applications.
Your puppy will grow very fast, so start with a basic cheap flat collar and lead.
A good length of rope is also handy.

Remember to take along lots of treats. Your bull terrier will respond better with them.

My opinion, until they are 6, even 8 months, the harness is best... Gives you a good work out, doesn't break their neck... and until 8 month there is really no reasoning with their wild behaviour.  You need control. After 8 you can use a pinch collar or a chain collar until they stop the pulling.
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
  • Thanks so much for your input. We have a harness and a martingale and we're using both interchangeably and he seems to be responding well to both. :)
  • We use the harness that the leash attaches in front and a martingale . The harness works best she is 6 months and is still all over the place while walking
