I have to admit that I chose my pup with my heart and not my head. I grew up with dogs and animals, but my husband did not and my children had a healthy fear of dogs, just from not being around them. I had heard that EBT can be high maintenance, hard to train, stubborn, destructive and not good for a first time owner, but I wanted on anyways. I am not saying this is something everyone should do, but this is what I did. I am a stay at home mom, thankfully, with school aged children so I have the time to devote to my new girl. Admittedly the first couple weeks were rough, but Sassafras has realm blossomed! She is not as scared and timid as she was to begin with, she is learning to be gentle with the children and she is taking to training so well! I can see in her the desire to obey and please us even when her mind and body really want to do something else. She makes me laugh every day! Such a hilarious pup! She used to be afraid of stairs, now it is her favorite place to hang out. She takes her ball to the top and drops.it down and goes chasing after it. She also races all of us up to the top, she always wins. We have had her just 2 months and my love has grown leaps and bounds. She is a great pup on her way to a great dog...crazy, yes...difficult /stubborn, oh yeah!...but totally great!

I can see from the photo... even a stray germ has got to feel out of place in that total freaknik tidy house... But is she not allowed on the couch?

Tidy house? Funny! Is that possible with 2 kids and a pup? Sass is still learning what things are acceptable to chew on and I loathe vacuuming pet hair off the sofa...because it does not come off! But trust me she is allowed everywhere else in the house and even just figured out how to get on top.of my son's bunk bed, which she was thrilled about!
I am on the floor with her 90% of the time b/c I love the cuddles, but sometimes my body needs some cushion...and when it does she makes sure she watches my every move lol any evidence of an invitation and she is up on that couch in no time flat!

Having a little trouble getting this site to post my full comment...anyhow she is.stuck with me! Side note...here is a pic of her with a neoghnor's boxer after a play session this afternoon. This is HUGE b/c she has been afraid of dogs ever since we brought her home, bolting even when only hearing them! It was so nice to see her enjoying another dog and not cowering in fear. We go to a group training class once a week full of other beginner dogs and she performs nicely but shivers and shakes and ticks her tail the whole time. Seeing her play today gives me such hope for her

Sassafras is now almost 13 months old. She is great, we love her to pieces. Recently during play time we were running around together and being goofy as we do. I clapped my hands together loudly as I often do to get her excited and she yelped and ran away from me. I called her back to me and she came just fine with tail wagging and ready for love and more play. This is the 2nd time she has had this reaction to me clapping in the last week. We have always played this way and clapping is not anything new for us and has never bothered her before. I guess I am unsure of how I should handle this? I don't want to scare her, but also don't want to validate this unnecessary new upset. Any advice on how to help would be greatly appreciated

She must associate that noise with something else that must have scared her in the past. Try showing her that it's You who is making the noise with your hands. Do this inside the house by gently clapping and then gradually get louder and louder until it's a familiar sound.

Thanks, I will try doing that with her since you asked for pics...here is my sweet girl! One pic from my daughters birthday, Sass was just as excited as she was. She is a great dog, absolutely great and she has come so far in the process of being less of a scaredy dog. She is still wary around men, but doesn't run away anymore. She will also play with another dog one on one, but any more than that and she wants nothing to do with it. The progress she has made is really amazing

@kstorck Thank You ! It's my first bull terrier I have 2 pit bulls as well . She is 36 lbs and I think the most difficult dog I have ever had but I love her to pieces and every day she gets a little better . She has come so far since we adopted her at 5 months .There were days in the first month where I thought to myself "I have made a big mistake she is to much dog for me " she is so smart and such a cartoon ,she makes me smile every day
