Broken Nail

My boy Hogan has a broken nail on his front paw. It looks like the top part is completely detached from the quick. I noticed this as I was wiping his paws clean on a rainy day. He yelped and I checked the pad, found nothing, then tried to clean him again before I found the detached nail. It is still hanging there just not attached to the quick. Is this a trip to the vet or will it grow back on it's own. I was going to trim it down as I found to do online, but he is not having that at all.

Oouuucchy!! I don't blame him.

My son's pit did that. He didn't have the money to take him to the vet and it eventually took care of its self. BUT did the pup suffer more than he should have?

You could try supergluing it back if the underside is not too wet/ bloody.  And then use the spray I showed in the link that Chooba posted above.
