Optical illusion markings-question

So, i have a question about Chimeras markings on her head- due to the white jaw line, sometiems her head appears thinner due to the eye following the black instead of the white.

Because of this-sometimes in videos and in real life, her head looks thinner looking from above.

The breeder has been talking more to me about letting me show her-and i would like to very much, my question is-is there anything i can do to help?

or am i going to have to trust that a judge will notice the white jaw and see the  "whole" as oppose to just the black?

i attatched a photo to show you what im talking about.

Interesting, my Marco has just about the same line. You can't see so much in my thumbnail here, it's more pronounced on the other side. ( I'll take a pic and upload) ... And now that you mention it, if I do get to show him, that could be a concern too. Frankly, with the typical judges you have today, if it isn't tiny , furry and yaps, the judges don't notice much.
I'd like to see if I can get one of those white jaw lines myself... At my age it might disguise my double chin!

This is Marco's dad..... And if you look at the side shot you'll see he has about the same " problem".... Didn't stop him winning though.

That line you are concerned about is common on many colored BT's. The judges are used to looking beyond markings. They will be looking for some volume in the muzzle from the tip of the nose to the bottom of the jaw. It's the BT's with the pointy narrow staight noses and muzzles that don't pan out too well. If you look at the photo above to the right that philsergeant posted you can clearly note that he has a nice wide muzzle. If you look at the top of his nose to the bottom of his mouth it looks square and full not like a sharks jaw.

The judges are going to be concentrating on all areas of structure and conformation as well as his movement and how well he's displayed. It's not all about how well the dog looks and the color markings.

Lucian has similar marks on one side of his head also. However, it's easy to tell that he has volume and structure.

Put forth your energy in training her to show well and the judges will love her and you'll have fun showing her off.

In other countries they take a great deal of time training the dogs to properly show because if the dog pulls on the lead and/or is hard to control they will lose points right away. Pay attention to which dogs are being lead around the ring by the lead and which dogs barely require a lead. You'll be able to tell simply by looking at the slack on the lead. Here's a video of Nitro prior to his last show about a month ago. Note his lead never tightened and he was attentive to his handler. This will earn points along with good movement. Don't worry about Chimeras markings along her jaw line. She looks fine. :)>-

  • Thanks for the advice! i have spent the better part of my time researching BT genetics and health over showing-and now i feel clueless to it all!
  • philsergeant it just occurred to me which puppy you bought. I wanted that puppy a long time ago!!! Hhahaha.
  • I think her jaw line is fine and wont affect anything. i think often times its markings on the head that can throw off the look of the head or the whites on the hocks can make the dog looked more cow hocked when in movement.
