Treadmill Exercise
I finally got one any tips on how to start these two out?? He's very interested checking it out and trying to stand on it but and the occasinal paw when I'm on it. I just don't want to scare him and then he will never want to. I held a treat and he got on it with a bit of a butt push but then quit walking and slid off:/ Cleo just wants to watch her big dumb brother fall off!!!

Not too sure. Never tried a tread mill. 4 acres to run them around wears them out. Maybe if you stay up front and give treats. Or you use the treadmill for awhile and rotate back and forth. Good luck.

With Cesar it took a fewm onths of preping him for it. i first started out doing obedience near the treadmill, after a few weeks i did obedience ON the treadmill, after a few weeks we did obedience next to the treadmill while it was on and would let it go for several hours everyday so it became background noise, then i moved onto practicing hooking him to a lead attached to the front, the last step was putting him on then turning it on-he freaked ou the first few times, so i made sure to straddle him to keep him steady, sometimes he would drag his back feet, so i held his butt so he felt more secure-then i would slowly move away from his rump keeping him on the lowest speed for only a few seconds at a time and only AFTER he calmed down and stopped flailing, after 3 days he was going strong and i kept him on for a whole 5 minutes, next week a whole 10 minutes, next week a whole 30 minutes and so on and so forth.
With Chimera-i put Cesar on when she was a tiny baby and she kept climbing on it herself and getting flung off the back-at 4 months she was on and running, by 5 months she was damn near obsessive over it, so i had to work on her obsession with the treadmill and letting her understand when i turned it off-it meant we are done, no ifs, ands, or buts about it because otherwise she wouldnt leave it alone.
I havent been able to use the treadmill for a while as the belt tore and i have needed otherthings over a new belt and im kinda looking more into buying a new one as mine was old and loud.

Thank you Steve for embedding the video! i dont know why, but lately, everytime i try posting video or photos to forums (this one included) its been showing up as just links and its really irritating the crap out of me!!
That video was when she was about 7 months-i taught her to stop jumping at the belt and to stop biting it also-so she just runs without trying to attack it, i worried by her jumping it was going to ruin her front joints.
i really want a brand new treadmill for them-this one i got second hand for myself and never used it for myself and gave it up to the dogs. now i want NEW! brand brand new
