Noob to Bull Terrier. Here's Nev.

First post from first time Bully owner.
Previous dogs have been a rescue whippet x border collie.
An Irish Terrier and 3 boxers.
We got Nev at 11 weeks old from Diane at Maolmhin bull terriers in Adelaide.
Diane has been terrific, answering any questions that we had, over the phone, no matter what time of day.
.Love this forum, lots of great advice.

here's a pic of Nev at 15 weeks (last week)

  • What a doll!! Welcome to the forum Neil
  • Hi Neil,

A Maolmhin BT, lucky you! Love to know more about Nev. Is he a pet or are you thinking of showing him?

    Cheers, Steve
  • Thanks guys,
Nev is doing well in his 5th week of puppy school.
Getting socialised every day at the park or on the dog beach.
He's quite scared of the water at present but i'm sure he will learn to love the ocean as we do.
He's a typical naughty puppy, stealing socks and shoes whenever your back is turned.
Toilet trained very quickly and is learning to stop biting my hands and feet.
The only issue that we have with him is the stubbornness on the lead.
He just digs in, but over the last 3 days he has been getting much better, especially if we take along a squeaky toy to grab his attention.
Off the lead he has been awesome, coming back every time you shout him but it does cost us a small treat, usually a piece of ham or beef...a small price to pay.
He is just a pet Steve, it was part of our purchase agreement with the breeder and we are ok with that.

My wife just informed me that he was 12 weeks old in the pic above, not 15 weeks.
I'll take a more recent pic and post it up soon.
    Cheers....Neil
  • Just found these pics on the trainers facebook page.
Taken last week at puppy class, age 15 weeks.
It's kinda strange that the cattle dog in the pics was brought in because it was deemed anti social and would not tolerate any dog near her.
There were six dogs in the class that could not go near the cattle dog but she let Nev have a sniff around and within 2 mins, they were best mates.

You got yourself an awesome new furry family member there, Neil.
Great that you already know all the right moves best to be made from the start to turn this breed into the wonderful treasures they are.

Nev looks as cute as can be and looking at that first photo he sure looks calm and relaxed. :))  However, I know at his age that's just impossible for a Bull Terrier. I bet he wore that cattle dog out during his puppy class.
I never heard of Maolmhin Bull Terriers before so I tried looking them up and didn't see much at all on them. However, I did see that they had a website but it didn't have too many photos or information.

  • Thanks guys, I can't believe how attached to this dog i've become in such a short amount of time.
I love him to bits, even when he completely ignores me i can't help but have a little chuckle.
     The Maolmhin website is a bit...erm.... low-key.
The photo's come up when Diane has pups for sale, which isn't very often. She's not looking to make money from the dogs, she's a national and international all breeds judge who just loves the bull terrier breed and just loves to show them off. If a litter comes along, the pups only go to approved homes.
She did also say that if we had any problems at all, that we must contact her and she will take him back from us.
We feel very fortunate to have one of her pups, she was highly recommended from the SAKC and also other breeders.

So glad i found this site, great info from genuine dog lovers.

NEV?  I was wondering whether you named him after some Russian Ballet stud? He looks like one of those macho dancing dudes?... But, Yes, they are heart worms... They weave themselves into your emotional fiber and you can't live with them (because the emotion is so overpowering) ...and you can't live without them... (kinda like women).

In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
  • Haha, nice one Phil.
Can't wait to tell my wife that you think my dog is like her.
    :)
Too long of a story about the name Nev, but the short version is that he was named after a crazy gangster/debt collector. It's also the only name that my wife, my son and myself could agree on after about 2 weeks of trying a different name every day.
  • Hi. That face could steal the heart instantly. He is a handsome fella.
  • Initially, I had lots of questions to ask about this breed...but the answers are already here.
This forum is like good book that you can't put down once you get into it. A bestseller even.

Big thank's to Steve for providing all the info on the best site ever.

Also many thanks to Phil and Djammy for answering all the questions that i was going ask but didn't need to.
    ......Back to more great reading...
.....Here's another pic of Nev posing for the camera.
    Thanks again, you guys rock.
