No offense, but you DO realize that even when putting a car - a lifeless thing - up to find a new owner, people usually give more background info and details than you are giving when putting up a LIVING being for adoption?

Or did you just miss to also put: "Please, send me a private message, if interested, I will then provide you with all the details."?

Also, putting one's dog up for adoption rarely sheds a very good light on the owner among the community of dog lovers.
However, there can be circumstances in life that make such a change inevitable and some of them are indeed comprehensible.
Wouldn't you at least want the community of passionate Bull Terrier lovers here to understand, WHY you need to say goodbye to that cute and adorable little part of your family?
  • Bob was the dog with the unwanted behaviour toward strangers in the house and the E collar . I was awaiting your response but you never updated us Bob . I feel a dog like bob would benefit from going into rescue to be assessed and helped or someone like bullies of nc  rather than just given to someone else who wants a bull terrier . If you were in the UK I could of recommended a behaviourist and dozens of rescues to help you but alas were not in the same country .
  • I can't edit on my phone . A no kill shelter that can rehab him

@Harriet, thanks for the info. I did not realize it was about that particular puppy.

Funny enough, Bob's other discussions did not start with more than just a few sentences either. :)
Well, in the given case it really looks like it could be a good decision to re-home the dog, INTO EXPERIENCED HANDS.
Actually to me the entire case seems like there are owners here, who are just not capable of handling the temperament of a Bull Terrier.

The problems that have been discussed in the other threads to me more or less seem like facets of the typical adolescent Bull Terrier issues.
Some remarks of the owners in my opinion clearly show a huge lack of basic understanding. That leads me to think that it's not the dog who would be particularly bad, wrong, ridden with behavioral problems or anything like that.
To me it looks like this relationship or in other words the temperaments of owner and dog are just a total mismatch.

I only wished the owners would have realized that, BEFORE they acquired the dog. And I can only hope that if there will ever be a next time with a dog, it will be a more easily compliant breed and the owners will gather more information about it in advance.
If I could, I would take him immediately, because I am convinced that he is a great dog. But I have my doubts that Djamila would be happy with another dog in the house. And our landlord only allows one dog in the house anyway.

In oder to find a good and experienced new home for him, especially because this thread can pop up isolated on Google and others may not be able to find the other threads that are showing a bit of the history of this dog, I would still find it helpful to provide more background information right here in this discussion. And if I were the owner, I would still feel the urge to explain my decision.

    But that's just me.
I mean, on the bright side they seemingly have at least tried to fix things for about 5 months and have even engaged a trainer (the chosen one may not have been the best choice, but who knows).

As I already did in another case here, from Wyoming, never head of it again (???), I can offer to help by putting up a profile of the dog in my blog and on my Facebook page (www.bullterrierfun.com) in order to maybe reach more potential new owners and especially people who are familiar with the breed.

But I will only do that under the premise that there will be given more background information about the dog.
Also I would suggest to find and contact Bull Terrier rescue groups in California and seek their help with re-homing him.
But I guess they will want more information, too. :)

Yes. Please can a genuine Bullie lover step up and offer a wonderful home to this wonderful creature. We'll do anything to help assist he find a forever home. At that age I guarantee you that no bad behavior cannot be corrected.
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
  • My wife and I are devastated about this decision. We both now are away for 11 hours a day. Due to unfortunate circumstances we are trying not to be selfish and want to find Bob a family with maybe another dog he can be with. He's a great dog and we don't want him to be depressed I am already looking at a rescue shelter that will check homes before being adopted. I know I can sell him but I rather them try to find him a happy home. Thanks for the tips and support you guys have given. I wish I didn't have to work to be with him.

We understand. I am sure there are some breeds that have the mentality to not suffer ill effects of 9 hours alone, but Bullies are not among them. Let's pray he finds a family able to give him what he needs

I wish you lived closer to this area so I could provide some help for you. Do you have any photos of him?
There should be a lot more Rescue Groups in your area that could help. Who have you tried contacting?

  • If you are interested in my offer to put up an adoption profile on my website and Facebook page, send me an e-mail at contact@bullterrierfun.com, so we can talk about some details and get the profile up.

Also, like Steve already said: You should have several Bull Terrier Rescue Organizations in California. I would not look for animal shelters, but Bull Terrier Rescue Organizations in particular.
The reason being that they specifically know the breed and are often in contact with experienced people who also know the breed. And these organizations usually only initiate adoptions into homes that provide appropriate circumstances.

I posted this discussion on our Facebook Group page - https://www.facebook.com/groups/897362186991321/

There are 7000 members so I'm confident he will get a lot of attention from people looking to adopt a Bull Terrier.

  • That's awesome Steve! I think this will really help the case a lot!
  • I would love to give him a home! Is he good with cats? I haven't owned a bull terrier before but I've done A LOT of research and as long as he'd live in harmony with my cat (she's great with dogs) I'd love to bring him into my family!

I can't answer the question about the "cat compatibility" ...

But just to make the picture a little more complete, here are the other existing discussions to give potential owners a better chance of knowing, what they may possibly need to be working on with this little cutie.

I am sure that experienced hands will be able to handle behavioral issues in no time. But I think it is always good to know what one's getting into.
  • I applied for a rescue puppy a little over a month ago and am still interested in a puppy. My husband, kids, and current fur babies would love to welcome this little guy into our home, Please contact me if you think we may be a good family for him or if you would like to review my previous application. Thank you so much for your consideration.

  • Bob is with a great rescue now. They are going to practice his social skills and then find a family for him. Thank you for those who were concern and tried to help us when we had questions. Take care of your bullies they are the best!

@Bob, would you mind sharing the name of the rescue organization here (and if they have, the website or Facebook profile)?
As you can see, there are already people interested in the adoption. It would give them a chance to contact the rescue organization, talk to them and apply to adopt the dog.

    Thanks!

Plenty of people were commenting on the facebook post explaining that they'd love to adopt him. In less than 24 hours you rendered him to a rescue on a Sunday??? You had people coming to this discussion on the same day you illustrated photos of him which was yesterday. You must have dropped him off at a rescue within a couple hours from posting his availability. Yes, please post his current location  - Rescue name, point of contact, phone number. Now that I've found several people for you that are wanting to adopt him it's kind of odd that he was taken to an unknown rescue group the same day of your post asking for assistance to rehome him.

I sent an email to the owner of Bob asking the same questions as depicted above. He responded with "He has already been adopted."

So with this said, apparently Bob was dropped off yesterday at an unknown Rescue Group and adopted out to home all in the same day. That rescue group must have been lightening fast to analyze Bob's character and temperament, advertise Bob, interview potential new owners, and find him a loving home in less than 24 hours. Job well done for all that work especially on a Sunday.  :-?  :-??

Now you have me confused @pumagirl. Didn't you just get a Bull Terrier that was in need of adoption? :-??

Weird stories happening around here lately :-? ....

@Steve, thank you for the update on Bob. That story started out kind of strange and seems to end that way.
It definitely leaves an odd aftertaste. I can only hope that Bob - the dog - is well and the story miraculously true ... I'll leave it at that.

I'm right there with you @Djammy. I find myself biting my tongue sometimes especially when things just don't add up or make sense.

A normal response would have been:

"Bob went to _______ Bull Terrier Rescue group located in _______ and a wonderful person by the name of ___________ took possession of Bob for foster care. Miraculously Bob was actually adopted the same day by a wonderful family who had prior experience with the breed and fell in love with Bob within minutes. He was so very lucky to be provided to a rescue group AND adopted to a loving home in less than 14 hours since I posted his availability!"

Somehow though, I just have a hard time believing it especially considering this all happened on a Sunday. But I will remain positive and trust that this was in fact exactly what occurred and that Bob found a loving forever home in less than a day. My thoughts of anything else other than what was described to have occurred with Bob scare me.

@pumagirl - I was told via email that Bob has already been adopted. Hopefully the Bull Terrier you just rescued the other day works out for you and your family. Your new bull terrier might be saddened if he finds out you're looking for a replacement.

  • How could a rescue adopt a dog out the same day it came in ? They need to assess him they'll dog test them they'll see how long they can and can't be left they'll see how they are on lead aswell as any guarding issues and then come up with an ideal home such as " bob is a lovely young bull terrier , he can be a bit boisterous so best suited to children over the age of X , Bob knows some basic obedience such as sit stay and come but will need further work on X he knows basic manners and waits for his food , we feel bob would be best suited to a family home with breed experience " or something as such . This story doesn't add up and I'm quite concerned about this dog he could of ended up anywhere . Rescues need to do home checks , possibly vet checks etc . I'm sorry if I come across a bit harsh but it is very concerning . Going on past posts aswell ..... I'll stop :(

@Harriet_R - Your concerns are well warranted and shared by all of us I'm sure. Bob's adoption will most likely remain a mystery for us as I'm sure we will never be afforded the opportunity to know exactly where he went, who received him, etc. Sometimes it hurts when you set out to help someone find a home for a home for a dog in need of rescue and suddenly you find out the dog is gone to God knows where.

  • Unfortunately I think with a breed as specialist as a bull terrier people get them without expecting what comes with owning a bull terrier or any bully breed in general . This is where research is key , meeting them in person , speaking to owners and all of which alot of people fail to do then they give up a dog that is so closely attached to their humans the whole thing upsets me . In the UK we have a major problem with this and staffordshire bull terriers people get them not realising what character they have and imo they're easier to raise than a BT but that's just me . @bulliesofNC
