Elizabethan Collar & Ears

Well, the newfound frienship between my poodle and my EBT puppy "Trica" come to an end. I was being careful, but the minor distraction and he bit her ear.

A tiny part of her ear is gone. I'm feeling terrible guilty, and really sad, I love her like my own child and I don't want to give her away, I want to try a trainer for my old dog. But I don't know if I'm pushing to much.

Well, I took her to the vet, i manage to found one open for emergencies (and now I change vet as my previous one didn't want to attend an emergency) . Good news, she didn't need any stitches, as when we get there the bleeding has already stop; the vet told me that as it not compromise the arteries he prefer not to sticht because he can cause more damage.

Now she's wearing and Elizabethan collar, and I'm wondering if her ears (they are already stand up) are going to stay that way or maybe after (she needs to wear it at least 5 days) they are going to be down.

The night for her was good, she sleep well, and in the morning was doing the same things she does. I was concern about her apetite, but she ate a lot when we return from the vet; and today in the morning. It's easier for her to eat than to drink water. Although she's a little dissapointed as she can't bite my hair anymore.

That's a bummer! Post a photo of the nick. Tell the Poodle, No more Shit!!!!
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
  • Oh that sucks!!  Will the wound close on its own or will she always have a little nick in it?

Poodles aren't exactly a breed of dog that has tolerance of a hyper puppy that wants to play rough and fast. Hopefully you sent a message to the poodle so he/she understands that what they did was unacceptable. Some dogs just don't wish to tolerate the irritations of a joyful and rambunctious Bull Terrier puppy. I sure hope she is Ok and the two can learn to get along without the need fight. In due time that poodle will soon learn that turning to dominance and aggression with a Bull Terrier may not be the wisest choice.

  • Well, I hope my poodle understood. Now he's showing a lot of signs of remorse, and is behaving well with her.
Here is a pic of Trica with her Elizabethan collar. You can see in the right ear (the one standing) that's the bite. She'll have this war wound forever. But she's active, eating a lot, gaining 200 grams a day, and she's not fighting with the collar. I'm not saying she's confortable, but she's playing a lot, and sleeps well. Altough she gets mad and grumbles as she cannot bite my hand, pull my hair or my ear anymore nor the shoes.

Well, she needs 5 more days with the collar, and today will be the last shot of antibiotics.

Poor girl. Well, I don't think that bite out of the ear will stop her from being a wonderfully loving Bull Terrier!

The next time I see a Poodle I'll surely be giving it the "Stink Eye."

Forgive me, but why is she wearing the collar?
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
  • Ya why is she wearing a collar??  Are there sutures?  Doesn't look like it.  Is she scratching at it?  That so totally blows...........stupid Poodle!!  I'd be real upset about that!  Shes a real cute bullie though.

Never mind about the sutures...........I just re-read she didn't need any.  FYI......usually you can take the collar off when she is being supervised.  Then at least she can drink some water.
  • Thanks! She didn't need any sutures... but the vet told us that she had to use the collar 24/7 for one week just for precaution. The wounds are already closed.
Thanks for the recommendations, already took out the collar, and she's not scratching at all.

    Yeah, she's pretty anyway!
