Concerned on vision

When we got Bianca she was only 7 weeks old. She's now 12 weeks and we are a bit concerned about her vision. She doesn't seem to see well at a distance and sometimes seems to have trouble seeing that you threw her toy about 5ft or so away. I know bullies traditionally have dark eyes but hers are green. Could this be the problem or is it due to her age and that she is still developing? Any advice would be appreciated!

  • With Freyja I had a very loose concern that was similar. Except her close range. She had a blue tint to her eyes. They are dark, but had almost a cataract-like mistyness to them. She would do fine when you would throw something, but her accuracy was terrible when she would try to grab a toy that was being dangled in front of her face. Not unusual for a puppy. We play a lot with her flirt pole and now she's more agile and accurate than I am at whipping it back and forth to have her chase it. At least for now, dont want the little puppy jumping much or cutting too hard of angles. Maybe her eyes just haven't gotten used to locking on to her target? Is it possible that she gets distracted? Freyja is increasingly more of a trancer and there are times where I'll be playing with her and then she just gets that 1000 yard stare.
  • I am hoping that it is just a puppy thing. I am only concerned mostly due to her color of eyes. I know liver colored bullies can have the green eyes but she is not a liver, she is pure white. I guess we will just continue to work with her coordination and hope she grows out of it! If she doesn't we will continue to love her just as much, just means she's EXTRA special :) I've just looked up the flirt pole, I will be making one for sure thank you for your feedback!

Marco has great eye/ hand snout coordination, and he'll catch a ball or a fast moving peanut with amazing agility... His sister sucks at coordination and will mis-catch a ball and send it off into the swimming pool 8 times out of 10.  It's not her eyesight though.... if you skim a raisin across the floor at 50 mph she'll follow the tiny thing & find and swallow it in a second... It's the coordination that sucks, and honestly we think that she just doesn't care to be an athlete and Marco swells with pride every time he achieves something.

  • Maybe a silly question, but is that Bianca in your photo? Only wondering because bullies that are white can be Liver, but what often gives it away is the nose color. If her nose, is black (as it seems in the little picture), nothing to worry about there. Do you mean the iris of her eye is green or the pupil is green? Or do you mean when you take photos of her her eyes shoot green lasers?

To be honest, I think it's the nose. Not to make any bullies feel self conscious, but they've got pretty big snoots. Watching Quinn when she was a puppy, she sometimes had trouble locating small treats I was holding right in front of her. Now though, the more I have watched her, I'm convinced it's her nose. When she plays with tennis balls and kicks them around, she very visibly tilts her her down to look at the ball, then moves her head back up to grab and bite it. It's like if someone was holding a bite of food under your chin, you look down at it, and then tilt your head back up to eat it. Weird description...but that's the movement. She also does not catch very well...if I throw a ball right at her it usually bops her right on her nose. Or if she is running after a ball, she will try to grab it and instead it ends up bouncing off her nose and flies further in the yard. Great entertainment though!
  • Thanks for your input guys! I'm starting to think it's just a puppy coordination thing rather then not seeing well. And i definitely think you're right about her big adorable nose getting in the way
