Ice Cubes
Seon
Lake Camanch, CA
When we first brought Raider a home an ice cube from the
fridge dispenser fell on the floor and he scooped it up quick. Since then when he hears ice being dispense,
he runs to the kitchen and waits for an ice cube from the wife. He chews it like "hard" candy.
Well yesterday while I was out at the marina working on the boat the
wife had “Raider duty” at home. When I
got back home she told me that Raider was on his hind legs against the fridge
trying to push the lever back with his nose to get a cube of ice. Too funny.
Sorry no pics.

Also I was very lucky she had this quirk because when she broke her leg a couple years back, ice cubes were the only way I could keep her hydrated. Didn't eat much, wouldn't drink...but them ice cubes... YES.

Frozen filled Kongs and ice cubes are standard these days.
We actually don't have an ice maker at my apt, so ice is more of a special treat for Quinn. Gets it at my parents house or "bobs" for cubes at events where they have big tubs full of ice water. A while back I did make some ice cubes that were 1/2 broth, 1/2 water and Quinn loved those! I have a recipe for little frozen yogurt treats as well, but I've been quite lazy... Seem to have misplaced my motivation this year. :-??
Absolutely possible. The first winter I lived here was an unusual cold one. That really got me by surprise. I had just left all of my winter clothes back in Germany. Stupid decision. An old lady in a store later told me that winter 2008 was so cold for her she was close to buying extra clothing, because everything from her closet was already in use - worn several in layers - at that time. Florida can be extreme.

I get creative got get Djamila off my back. That's why frozen stuff is on my list.
She is just sucking and licking her frozen Kong with yogurt, busy for about 20 minutes now.

Wear and breaking can happen with a lot of treats and toys. I've read warnings about the ice cubes too and I guess the risk is present. Tummy aches from large chunks of ice swallowed in whole is another possible issue. There are indeed some toys and treats I don't give to my dog for different reasons - among them wear and breakage. In nature carnivores eat EVERYTHING, including bones and cartilage. I consider bones, antlers etc. harder than little ice cubes. So for me the chance of damage is low enough to allow her having them.
