Would a female Bull Terrier Puppy be a good addition with a male Field Trial Lab?

It may be a silly question, but I am wondering what are the chances of them getting along, keeping up with each other, and tolerating each other? I've always wanted a bull terrier.

  • I read a little. Probably not the best fit for me. They look like wonderful dogs. I would learn something by having another breed but anyway.

If properly handled, an EBT will get along with any other dog breed AS LONG AS the other dog holds a good disposition ..... They love dogs, just not overly pushy ones. As far as keeping up (physically) is concerned you'd be surprised at the speed and energy capability of a Bullie.... Just don't ask him to do too much on a hot day.
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.

Raising a Bull Terrier with any breed of dog can be a great idea. Bull Terriers don't grow up with certain breeds and then suddenly one day say, "Hey, I don't like this type of dog!" Actually, they usually become best friends regardless what type of breed it is. It's all about raising them together, socialization, and proper training.

  • I am currently raising a "bully" with my lab. Puma will out run Bell (lab) any day. The problem is that the easy going lab will not stand up to the "bully" and puma destroys bell. At the end of the day they are bestiesimage

  • One of Quinn's favorite dog friends is a collie. The Collie doesn't care for Quinn much...but she gets so excited when she sees her. She is also buds with a lot of mixed breeds down at the apartment dog park. However, she is not a fan of Goldendoodles I have noticed... And cats. Cats are scary.

Lots of great comments. Sad when there's no reply from the originator of the discussion.  :(

Isn't odd that many times when people don't know the Bull Terrier breed too well the concern with two dogs NOT getting along is often towards the Bull Terrier being the instigator?

Sometimes when I'm out with one or two of my Bullies people stop short with their dog and ask, "Is he OK with other dogs???"  My answer is usually, "I'm not worried about his behavior as much as I am with your dogs behavior. My Bullie only wants love."

Even Labs and Golden Retrievers can be the instigators to aggression regardless how well behaved people want to think they all are.

  • :-O :-O :-O :-O  I hope that bullie didn't get bit too bad!!!! Poor baby has its ears pinned and everything! What the heck...

When Quinn was little I wasn't ever worried about her being aggressive necessarily, I was concerned about her being annoying haha. As many bull terriers are, she was just very in-your-face and wanted to play and be silly and had no concept of boundaries and social cues from other dogs. A dog would snap at her and she'd immediately try and sidle up to the snappy dog and still be their friend. She's learned now, and I'm definitely more concerned about other dogs than her. Or, since she's an "old lady" now, I am wary of how she interacts with whipper-snappers who are now as annoying as she once was.

Steve ..That is a fantastic set of Photos, where did you get them?... They not only show what a shit head the (oh! such a sweety) retreiver is, but what wonderful restraint and confidence the Bullie shows... I tell you, other breeds are just peasant dogs... for the most part/

Very True. Looks like they had one visit to the Forum on June 15th, initiated a good discussion, and then forgot all about it.  :-O

If you knew how many phone calls I get all through the day (and even night) you'd be shocked. I often want to ask them "What did your breeder advise you to do?" or "Does the breeder you purchased your Bull Terrier know about this problem?"  However, I've learned it's just quicker and better to provide them my opinion to their concerns without adding in more unnecessary questions. With emails, I often refer them to certain discussions on this Forum so it's all of you who are providing many answers to questions I'm asked. ;)
