  • Congrats on getting the pup! She is a cutie!! I saw in the other thread about dealing with a cleft palate as a pup, but will this affect her when she is older? How will she eat/drink etc? Does the roman nose matter?

No idea on the names... Quinn's name is based on the fact that bullies are "jokers" or "clowns" but I don't know if you want a name associated with her condition or not! She's a peach, anyway. :)
  • @Quinnofhearts thank u we don't have her yet we r getting her tomorrow she has to have dry food only which my dogs only have and water nothing else they can lead a normal life but can get infections u can can it operated on but I've read it can also close on its own or skin can grow over it I'm going to talk to my vet today about it she's so adorable I fill she's a fighter and survived for a reason I can't wait to the see the family of wear she has come from and meet the breeders have no ideas on names yet we keep u posted .
  • @BulliesofNC how's the puppy u adopted out with the same problem .

  • @BulliesofNC I'm glad he is doing great I'm sad to say that after alot of realistic thinking and speaking to my vet and the breeder I decided not to go for this beautiful girl tge night before last I really became concerned about the well being and future of this pup I found by self worrying about everything her biting sticks and wood going in her hole drinking sea water and getting a infection stones from the beach going in her hole inhaling water and it going on her lungs I spoke to my vet about it and him knowing how important my dogs r he explained how there can be lots of complications and lots of heart ace her hole is so big it can't be repaired I could not bare the thought of getting her and at some point I could loose her if something went wrong I spoke to the breeder and she totally understood I cryed like a baby all day my partner was determined to find me another ebt and we did last night we left home at 6.30 we got to her at 11 pm and returned home at 4 am this morning I've just settled her down at 6 am in the morning and boy am I shattered I will start a new thread about her situation .thank u for all your comments regarding this little beauty.

In the event that the cleft palate is so significant that it can not be corrected than it could have future health concerns. Most cleft palates can be surgically corrected once the puppy is old enough and strong to go under anesthesia. I'm shocked that this puppy's cleft palate can not be corrected. I was actually surprised to hear that there was a size limit in the ability to perform corrective surgery for a cleft palate. I've seen photos of puppies that have enormous cleft palates that underwent surgery and had the roof of their mouth repaired where there was no longer a hole. Some puppies with this defect do not even need surgery while others with a more significant cleft do. Hopefully the Vet that you spoke with had the knowledge on the availability of correction for cleft palates and assessed the puppy correctly.

Yes, no matter what the decision to raise this puppy is a big one because she may require costly surgery to correct the palate and there would always be the chance of health complications.

@bigbear1tracey - I completely understand. I'm sorry things didn't work out. I know how much you were hoping she'd be a good fit for you. There will always be other Bullies that become available and in due time you may very well find the perfect one.

I put two and two together after my post. So hard to keep up with all the posts as well as other agenda I get involved in every day. I was thinking the new puppy you posted about was the one with the Cleft palate until I reread your posts. She looks great too!

Today's has been a bust day. I had a family come in from Fayetteville to meet with our Bullies and I'm expecting another family who has driven down from New Jersey to meet with our Bullies. Busy... Busy... Busy. I have a hard enough time remembering peoples names. I get hone calls all day too and I'm often getting two dogs confused or two situations confused. I need a secretary. LOL.

  • Lol @BulliesofNC I know u r a very busy man and thank u for always replying at this moment in time my head is about to blow a fuse I tryed contacting the person who I got the dog off and have had no replie I told her I need to talk so she best bloody ring me soon as the paper work was not adding up first jabs dates of birth etc I manged to get the number out of her of the person she got her off as I needed her details to get jab cards etc when I spoke to the breeder she was shocked to hear she had rehomed her as she had only got her 2 days ago not two weeks as she told me she not 16 weeks but 20 weeks she told the breeder they had ebt before she told us they had never had one and couldn't cope with her she said she had all her jabs the breeder said she's only had her first I am so angry I've been lied to this poor pup has done so much travelling in the past few days I'm now really concerned to where she has really come from as they told me they saw both parents and had not only saw mum I could go crazy she's 5 months and will not be able to go out for another 3 weeks this now concerns me because of socialisation she's missed out on she's very sharp and on the bull barks at any noise very alert when I asked the breeder why there was 2 numbers that was on the paper work that r no longer in use she said she changed her numbers is she a puppy farm I fill sick to my gut .she's a beautiful girl just worried . I trust people to much I hope it does not bite me in the face .

That's sounds very fishy. It's obvious the person you got her from had no problem telling bold faced lies. In the event she lied about how long she had the puppy, never having a Bull Terrier before, and how old the puppy was she may very well be lying about who the actual parents are as well as vaccinations, health tests, and proper registry papers. I'm unaware of the meaning by "jabs" but I assume you mean registry papers or maybe you mean vaccinations. Jabs must be a term used in your area because I have never heard that term before.

I find it VERY odd that both numbers would suddenly be changed in such a short period of time. I certainly hope you didn't fall into some scam. There are just too many scammers out there selling puppies without proper registry papers along with breeders selling puppies with incorrect papers listed as sire and dam.

Hopefully you can get a hold of the person who sold you the puppy and receive all the proper paperwork that should have accompanied her. However, something tells me she may have washed her hands to the sale of the puppy. Hopefully she doesn't ignore your phone calls. You may want to have someone else with a different number try calling her just to see if she answers the phone.

  • @bigbear1tracey where does the breeder live?and do you have pedigree papers?
  • @BulliesofNC it all seems fishy to me I going to contact breeder again about paper work and I'm also going to contact lady I got her off to see why she lied breeder is from montgomery I've tryed to look her up as a breeder can't find nothing on her but just Googled her don't know how to find out more information on her also I don't fill like this pup has had a lot of human contact normal pups fuss for attention she loves to be cuddled but she does not pester she just keeps going in her cage she has been pinned twice this morning went into full attack mode on chaos over a bone I'm really concerned but will work threw everything with her we will be fine .
  • I contacted the lady I got her off and made her fully aware something was not right she said she had her a week when first of all it was 2 weeks she won't talk on the phone so nothing more I can do about it I've contacted the breeder but not replying feeling really stressed as I trusted what I was being told was the truth just hope this pup will be ok .image

  • @bigbear1tracey try not to stress too much, all you can do is your best to provide the loving home and discipline that this little one needs.and remember she needs time to settle and know that she won't be moved again,it's early days.and didn't you say you were off to your vets Monday?that will probably put your mind at ease
  • She's doing well @Gypsy123 just being a typical bully the pinning is being a success I posted a photo tge my other link as she needed it a few times being really dominate with My other pup full attack mode little bugger lol .

@bigbear1tracey ... I feel for all you have been through and know how much love you have put into your first two fur-kids.  I don't want to seem unkind and lacking understanding... you put a lot of thought into the cleft pallet kid, and, whether right or wrong, you made a logical decision as to how you would be able to handle that sort of adoption. When you make a 12 hour decision to grab an instantly available pup, there are a certain amount of consequences to not doing the required research and due diligence. Not to say I haven't made heart decisions before head decisions in my life, but when it comes to a "life-long" relationship.... which it must be when one takes a dog into their lives.... One needs to contemplate all the ramifications. You could choose to give the dog back and you may have "luck" in that department.... But I think what we try and encourage on this site is responsible decision making, due diligence and a commitment to ones' choices. I know, seeing how wonderful your current two fur-kids are doing, that you might need to dig deep but you can make a wonderful life for all three and we will be here to help in any way we can.

Sadly breeders like this often misrepresent the actual parents. It happens more often than you can imagine. One thing I really like about AKC is they provide DNA testing. Due to the lack of professionalism on your breeders part I would most definitely conduct the DNA so you have confidence that you at least know who the correct parents are. Good breeders will want to you to call and entertain any question you could have. They will NOT dodge your phone calls or forget about you after the sale of a puppy. The breeders that act this way concern me in many ways but mostly on the integrity of the breeding as well as the health and qualities of puppies they produce. It's sad that your puppy was passed around to different homes as well as getting lied to from the past owner. I guess it's even worse now knowing your breeder is distancing themselves from you after they got rid of their puppies. At least the puppy is with you and in good hands. That puppy doesn't know how lucky she is.

I post this link all the time - http://bulliesofnc.com/finding-reputable-bull-terrier-breeder/ . Those who read it and pick up on the signs of bad breeders benefit when they find themselves a really good breeder to claim a puppy from.

All Bull Terrier puppies are as cute as can be and hard not to fall in love with. However, many people often have regrets later down the road when the puppy gets older and doesn't meet the expectations they had wished for. I certainly hope your Bullie turns out to have the best temperament and personality you could ever wish for as well possess perfect health.

I see that the Sire was a Red and White. I assume the Dam was a Black Brindle or possibly a Brindle in order to develop a Black Brindle and White pup. Do you have a photo of the Dam?

@bigbear1tracey ... You will have to be careful with that second photo in case the Humane Society (or the RSPCA or whatever they are there)... don't accuse you of breeding a Freaky Dog! with two heads, three short and four long paws!! :))I think it's too fabulous the way those two love each other... Now you need to start creating the "Three-Dog-Sandwich".

  • @philsergeant these dogs love each other so much I have made sure that he was bought up in a calm manner including how he played with sophie they charge around with each when we got him he would try to hang off sophies neck etc but I nipped that in the butt only gentle play which has resulted in chaos being a very calm layed back boy and he's only a baby himself I've come across a few posts of when I got sophie and how she was with zeus my old staff god rest his sole u gave me alot of advise with her I've been lucky with chaos he's never needed any real checking just a good boy I'm laughing to myself remember advise you gave me her constantly biting zeus and him being to old to put her in her place and u saying about the wooden spoon if she doesn't stop give her a firm smack on the BUTT lol she soon learnt if I picked it up she would stop only needed to use it a few times .4 dog sandwich u mean lol presious is our 4 dog image

@TucoTheBullie - The parents of your Bullie look nice and I find it amazing to see a solid white pup produced from two colored parents. That's a rarity for sure.

You may not have too much concern about the bloodlines within a puppy's pedigree but some people do simply because they want to ensure the bloodlines come from reputable breeders who actually conduct thorough health tests to their breeding stock along with appropriate tests on the puppies produced. this in itself helps provide potential buyers with the confidence that not only are they purchasing a cute Bull Terrier puppy but they're purchasing a puppy that has a reputation for proper health which will have greater chances of having a long healthy life as a beloved family member. Now a days genetics means a lot to people who are well calculating their decision on a dog that they want to ensure has ALL the qualities for years to come.

  • @BulliesofNC I too have never thought of looking alot bloodlines but I can tell u something if I ever got another dog which is not going to for many many years if ever I would definitely do my research this has taught me one big lesson and I know the hard work that goes into people breeding like yourself to make sure u have healthy pups and good blood lines .
  • @BulliesofNC that's dad and grandad i couldn't find pictures of his mum online, they may also not really be his bloodline I'm just going off of what his pedigree papers provide me with, I also completely understand why people research their pups bloodline but for me there was no need to research as I bought a 2yo adult bullie in need of a loving home as I wanted a companion not just a cute little puppy But love him to bits and he has a great home here with me! To me I could have bought a cute puppy fresh at 8 weeks old who is a blank canvas to start training but there are so many dogs out there that need good homes they should be homed first!

  • Update on things @BulliesofNC well I seem to have made some progress I have spoke to the breeder of presious a few times the last couple of days and things r looking up I think maybe when I first rang her I caught her a bit on the op so to speak and was a bit shocked to hear the puppy had been sold on since then she told me she was not happy that the person who had her didn't even inform her that she was trying to sell the pup she's tryed to contact her herself but with no answer or reply from the women I've asured her presious is in a good loving home and she will have a good life we exchanged emails and photos she's sent me vaccination card and is also going to send me papers for precious she emailed me photos of both kc papers of dam and sire the sires I could clearly and the dams was a bit blurred so I'll look forward to receive ing them the sires was a 3 generation emred devils advocate also some photos of dam with presious brother Erwin I've looked up most of the sires generation and what beautiful bullys I'll post a few photos I have recieved of dam . @TucoTheBullie I also wanted to take on a older bully but my concerns were being one into a home with children and as I already had three dogs I really don't think that would have been a wise choice as u never really know how things can turn out when a rescue comes into a packed house hold but I hold my hat off to u for giving a beautiful bully a great home .

Do you have any official pedigree papers (from the kennel club versus the breeder's printout or pictures)?  How did you find the puppy that you did bring home so quickly?

  • The people I got her off said she was kc registered and had papers they lied if u read the thread it will explain have much these people have lied when I managed to get hold of the breeders formation she said she is kc reg and will send papers to me she was up for rehoming .@ exiled.
  • I fill I'd like to explain a few things after having to make the desion not to get the cleft palet puppy no matter how upsetting my choice was I knew I'd still want to get another ebt so later that day I'd had a look on the Internet and there was lots of puppies for sale and older bullys in need of a new home there was alot of older ones but all stated not good with kids or other dogs so I knew that getting a bully that was older was not going to work as I have children and other dogs then I thought well we will have to get a puppy whilst looking I came across the puppy I have now I spoke to my partner and thought she's not to old to introduce to our dogs so I rang the people an spoke to them I was horrified to hear they had only had her two weeks and already wanted to get rid of her because they liked the idea of having a bully but never actually looked into there breed behaviour etc I asked them to send me photos and videos of her and it was just normal bully behaviour they was apparently concerned because they had young children I told them I got my first bully when my daughter was 6 yrs as I had never had one always wanted one but waited till my daughter was of age to handle a ebt puppy knocking her about but they said they still didn't want her so I told them I'd speak to my partner so we spoke and talked about getting a puppy I saw it that this pup was young enough to come into our home with our dogs and needed a home the puppies we saw was a lot nearer than we would have to travel but really got the impression these people just wanted her gone we knew we could give her a good home and decided to go get her it was a long 8 hr journey and thank god we did because God knows where she would of ended up she came walking in to the room with her head hanging low I was sitting on the floor and she calming came and sat on me and started licking my face so we bought her home then I find out from the breeder they had her 2 days which made it even worse so I'm glad she is with us in a good loving home where she can finally settle and trust that's she's staying .
  • Im just looking forward to more pics of Precious now @bigbear1tracey :) im sure taking her from those owners was a decision you made in the best interest of the pup.i also found Solo on the internet,I'd contacted a few breeders but ended up buying from a private ad,she was no cheaper and her asked just as many questions I just found him more approachable.sire and dam were his much loved family pets,(he was still a kc registered assured breeder)and he has been at the end of the phone throughout our first 12 months.which is invaluable.you are now in contact with Precious 's breeder and can start from here.keep posting the pics!! =D>
  • It can be a rather winding journey that rescue BTs make before they wind up in the right home.  It happens to other breeds, too.  I know someone that rescued a labradoodle, but it just didn't work out.  After they found someone that they thought would be a good home, they happened to look on Craigslist and it was on there only two hours later.  Two hours and that dog was already online for the next home.

Fingers crossed that you get the truth from your dog's breeder.
  • @Gypsy123 I did have her best interest at heart and went a long way to get her god knows what would of happened to her she's a beautiful girl but I know one thing her behaviour and training has been none but we are getting there the biggest problem at the moment is she never had all her injections and can't have it till the 8th of may so that's the only thing that's making things hard I have quite a good size garden not huge there's only so much playing u can do trying to burn off a 5 month old pups energy is hard especially when u have limited space she's sad when I'm taking out the others and have to leave her behind and also this weekend the garden is going to start being renovated that will be fun lol .@ exiled that's really sad that to hear about that dog she's doing well apart from all she's been threw I did report the ad which I got precious from not that I think anything will come off it but I'm still really angry over the lies that they told about her and no consideration for her life .I'll try and ger some good photos tomorrow as it a busy weekend garden plus my daughters birthday and trying to keep this little girl busy hope u r all well .
