Bull Terriers and their connections with their human pack

Something has been on my mind the past couple of weeks, and I'm curious about experiences others might have had with their Bull Terriers.  I'm still getting over a bad accident at home and have good days and bad days.  Wouldn't bring that up since it's not exactly a fun topic, but it's relevant.  There is a spot on one of my heels close to where the compound fracture was a couple of years ago.  It was hurting so much that I was almost seeing stars.  Out of the blue, Rodney drops his toy and comes over and wouldn't stop trying to lick it, hard and intensely.  I hadn't been rubbing it or put anything on it that would have attracted attention.  I was mostly trying to read something, so it seemed like he picked up on that without me giving him any indicators.

A few days later, it had flared up again and he was like a maniac trying to get to the exact spot.  Again, I didn't put anything on the surface of my skin or taken any different medications or supplements, nothing different except the level of pain.  A few days later, I stubbed my toe on a different foot and hurt the nail.  Well, he zoned in on that.  He's gentle, only licking, but he's adamant to get to my painful spots.

Only a handful of times, Rodney has been asleep and he'll wake up with a particular bark that is not very loud, but it's...hard to explain, but different and distinctive.  I'll look at surveillance and sure enough, there's some sketchy person quietly walking around or something.  That doesn't happen often, but it's like he can sense this up on the third floor of the house when the person isn't making any noise discernible to me.

It spooks me sometimes, but even more so, I feel protected by my BT.  I can't always figure out why he does some of the things he does, but I trust him and think he knows things I don't always know or understand.  Can't imagine life without Rodney now that he's part of our pack.

  • Of course, I'd find this is an email that I checked after posting the above.  It doesn't add much to the nuanced sort of sixth sense that dogs seem to have, but being shown love is always a great thing.

Are you kidding me!!!!!??? Really now??!! You didn't know that Bullies (okay, some other breeds too), have X-Ray eyes?  Shame on you!!! I'm naturally going to mention those absolutely obvious (to bullies) muscular and physical "injuries" that we have, no matter how mild or intense, that they can see under the skin and they try and massage with their tongues to restore health.... But that doesn't even begin to relate to their ability to feel and measure our emotional pains.... Haven't you noticed how they lick your temple or ears when you have a headache or are feeling stressed? They still use their tongues and lick as deep as they possibly can, but now it's obvious that their tongues are directly connected to their hearts as they try and wipe our problems away, physically, with their pure love.
Bullies are FAR better than people, and they should have a national health care subsidy for all the good that Bullies do for their families..... But, you knew all of that already, you're just trying to see if I'm paying attention!
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
