You don't find too many people in the USA that are looking for the "Hinks Old Tyme Bull Terrier" looking Bull Terrier. I've read a few posts where one or two people looking to stir up controversy would condemn the modern day look of the Bull Terrier and criticize them for not having the same look, build, and purpose as the breed once did many years ago. To be quite honest the breed standards have changed a lot over the years and this look no longer emulates the look they are supposed to have in today's Bull Terrier. I will admit there are some unprofessional backyard breeders and puppy mills where some of the small, frail, skinny, straight nosed Bull Terriers are bred and sold which have more of the look of the Hinks Old Tyme look. However, many also have the deafness and other genetic disorders associated with them.

For those unfamiliar with the Hinks Old Tyme looking Bull Terrier here's a link that contains a few photos of the Bull Terrier from years past. http://hinksoldtymebullterriers.webs.com/

  • Why don't you look for the beautiful functional linages from Friar Tuck Kennel?

I heard Friar Tuck Kennels closed down..... (wouldn't try using a spoonerism on Friar Tuck).

In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.

@Zmaraibullterriers - It's one thing to raise and breed dogs of all sorts and I have nothing against those that prefer the old school look of the Hinks style Bull Terriers. Additionally I have nothing against those that desire working lines for productive purposes. However, for those that encourage and see no issues with breeds raised and trained for the sport of fighting I'm completely opposed of it. In truth it disgusts me and immediately provides me with the authentic truth of the breeder or owners love and passion for dogs. It is impossible to love and care for any animal with the intent to pose physical harm to it by means of force fighting him or her. Yes, I viewed your Facebook page and seen your dogs with thick collars and chain leads which gave me enough insight to your character but after seeing the many dog fighting photos which you obviously encourage and find interesting I immediately knew where your heart is with animals. Please understand those on this forum do NOT share this kind of interest and are utterly against it. I could never watch two dogs fight with excitement while they rip each other apart. You may agree but nobody with love and compassion for animals could tolerate seeing such cruelty. Here in America it's labeled as cruelty and highly frowned on. I see that you are a member of other Pit Bull Terrier Forums and I suggest that you stick with them if they are entertaining your "style" of raising and breeding dogs. You name has been banned from this Forum and I pray for the health, happiness, and longevity of your dogs and their future welfare.

This is just one photo from your facebook page that I find very disturbing. I won't bother posting others but wanted to at least provide fair enough reasons for my decision to ban you from this forum which remains with caring and loving Bull Terrier owners.

Hear, Hear!!! It distresses me totally that there exist on earth people that would actually call themselves human, but would deliberately involve themselves in encouraging vicious and violent tendencies in dogs (or chickens for that matter). This trend is what has caused the English Bull Terrier to join the ranks of the pitbull and have ownership and breeding banned in parts of Europe, namely portions of Germany and France. My own Bull Terriers are the most loving and emotional creatures that I have had the privilege of owning. That wonderful experience should be nurtured and encouraged for all, even those with small children or aging parents. Who needs people that would encourage anything else? Dogs bred for vicious fighting could never be as depraved as their owners/ breeders. But we surely don't need those types here on the forum of dog lovers.

  • Shame on you! Zmarai Bullterriers.
Calling yourself a breeder but posting such cruetly pictures on your FB.
what are you trying to promote? more pain for the dogs?
    Shame on you!

OMG my heart hurts watching those dogs on the photo.

The history of stereotyping and eventually banishing dogs like the Bull Terrier in Germany has a far greater background than dog fighting alone, which is disgusting in itself - no question about that.
A background of a longterm misinformation campaign during the 80’s and 90’s. Performed by some major German media for purposes of raising sales by targeting greater audiences with tabloid journalism.

A history of really unfortunate tragic bite incidents that sadly actually also in some cases involved Bull Terriers - mostly the dogs of irresponsible owners or owners who even trained their dogs to be aggressive against people to enhance their own low self-esteem. This way their reputation as a trendy breed quickly went south.

This did not only include Bull Terriers, but a generalized group of breeds, today gathered in German jurisdiction under the collective term “fighting dog”.
Aaaand there we go again with the biased “fighting” image of a creature allegedly dangerous and vicious by birth, which many people are so eager to believe and others are so eager to support.

Once they had formed their opinions about the breed, many people did not even bother with one thought about the HUMANS, who had turned the dogs - actually could turn ANY dog - into beasts for the most despicable reasons by making them believe they only are good dogs when they “fight” for their owners.

Not only does dog fighting hurt the dogs involved, it hurts the breeds in general. Ignorance does that, too.
After legislation got changed in Germany around the time of the millennium change, the streets pretty quickly filled with “fighting dogs”, just tied to a street light, abandoned and left to die.
The ones who where picked up by a dog-catcher oftentimes eventually got killed also. Only a few found their way back into loving families.
The majority of them just vanished from public sight and until today this breed faces hatred and prejudice - NOT the humans who caused all of this.

The dog license fees for those breeds skyrocketed at that time to make acquisition of them as unattractive as possible. Leading to a lot of people simply not being able to afford the dog any longer - which of course is no excuse for just abandoning it on the street.
In addition, owning those “fighting dogs” got tied to other “inconvenient” and expensive preconditions. Obedience training and character tests as well as muzzling and leashing the dog at all times in public became mandatory. Many of that is just normal to the regular responsible dog owner.
However, it opposed the purpose of those dogs to pimp the egos of a certain kind of people.

What’s common to all of those developments - including dog fighting - is that the impulse behind all of this is mostly the very same: Human ignorance, disrespect for animals and greed for money.
Nobody who supports animal abuse of any kind - even worse if he calls himself a breeder - should be allowed to have animals.

And while we are on that topic, not quite it, but related. Just in case you have not noticed yet, take a look at this petition: http://exposeanimalabusers.org/

If you want to do something that helps to prevent abusers from pursuing their dirty business - here’s one thing you can do.
  • I don't mean to disrespect nobody, but it's ironic, you have one of the best Bull Terrier lines right there, in germany, look for Fraires Tucks Bull Terriers, there is a lot of info in german (I can't understand, but I used the traductor sometimes) and the dogs are perfect, first they are exactly like they were 100's ago, they are not a stupid attempt of reeinventing the wheel like the **** a**es that want to destroy their family history on the breed trying to recede the breed. This guy, breed all his life with pretty damn strict rules, for health, personality and function. The dogs are amazing, working in all types of sports (civil dogs, hunting, agility, etc), this because they have a great personality (stable, intelligent, sweet, really courageous and tenacious)

I don't detect any disrespect in what you wrote and I'm confused by that statement. Fraires Tucks Bull Terriers has been gone for over 10 years and the breed has progressed since that time in all countries. If there are current lines that you commend please share them with us.

I know that there is people that continue his lines, I can't point one person/breeder, but the EBT club that he open back in the day is still available and they can help anyone who wants a EBT for work, I unfortunatly don't have the link and I don't know anything about german language, but if out dear OP puts this "friars tuck bull terrier club" in google it will appear some good juicy results, as a search on the sir will have too.

  • P.S. I found the link to the club, for everyone that could be interested!
