need help with a breeder
Has anyone heard of Aegean bull terriers in MI? We are looking for a bully and they are the only one we can find close to Omaha, NE that even have pups. I also have a question about price. Is 2000 kind of high for a pet quality pup? I ask about blood lines and if the pup had any champion blood lines for that price but my question went unanswered.
Any help would be great.

there is another thread on here in which Aegean is brought up. Opinions vary, as you'll find with any buisness in any market.
I got Chooba from them in April, and did pay 2k. I have no complaints and I have met a handfull of other EBTs since @ dog parks ect, and although much much younger, asthetically, he blows them out of the water as far as "bullish" traits and personality.
But as with any additon to the family, money aside, do your homework 1st, and know the an EBT is not just any dog
I will tell you that as a breeder I listen to tons of Pro’s and Con’s about other Bull Terrier breeders from people who have visited with other breeders they found to be disappointing. I also hear about other breeders who are quick to condemn us with false statements which always shocks me especially coming from breeders who not only never met us but have never seen our Bull Terriers or visited with us here in North Carolina to see just how our Bullies are raised and cared for.
What does sadden me is hearing that some breeders that I once thought to be offering appropriate health guarantees are NOT. I hate hearing about any Bull Terrier with genetic disorders and when the owners tried communicating their concerns with their breeder they’re quick to come up with some excuse as to why they’re not responsible. Even worse is finding out no true Health Guarantee exists.
As an example, just a few days ago I received a phone call from a very nice gentleman who drove from Indiana to Chicago with the intent to purchase a Bull Terrier puppy from another well-known BTCA Breeder who proudly fills his website with photos of his Bullies at shows and a select few who have earned champion titles. This puppy was champion sired and they were impressed by what they saw on their website. Upon arriving to their home and meeting the puppy they were disappointed to note the loads of dirt in the ears of the 14 week old puppy. The owner seemed to them more like a used car salesman than anything else. He even tried talking them into purchasing their other female puppy that was also available saying they’d do better together. The turn off actually wasn’t the pushy sales speeches or even the dirty ears on the puppy. The big disappointment is that this breeder was very adamant with NOT providing them with a written Health Guarantee. All they would provide was an oral guarantee of the puppies health which was good for only 7 DAYS. To make matters worse the puppy had not only never been health tested but he had never been examined by a certified Vet period. The puppy was vaccinated by the breeder as well which is often not accepted by Vets when future vaccinations are required. This blew them away because they simply couldn’t figure out why they didn’t have enough confidence within their own bloodline to provide an unconditional Health guarantee for genetic disorders for an appropriate amount of time. When the gentleman mentioned other breeders were providing adequate health Guarantees he got angered and told him to go to them.
Although I’ve never met this breeder I was amazed by their policies pertaining to Health Guarantees. I visited their website to read what they had posted in regard to health guarantees and realized they make NO mention of health guarantees at all. There is lots of boosting about them not being a “Kennel” and a member of the BTCA and such but concentration was mostly aimed at the achievements at shows vice health, temperament, character, loyalty, and intelligence which happen to be the traits most people value. Enter into enough shows to achieve a champion title is not a hard thing to accomplish with any Bull Terrier that meets the standards.
A few years back I wrote an article titled “Finding a Reputable Breeder.” It actually not only helps others recognize the many things that are important factors when researching various breeders but it allows me to provide them the link to read vice mentioning anything I find to be poor in regard to a particular breeders ethics or policies. I understand there are many breeders that are bitter that I exploited this information because it clearly outlines certain things they aren’t adhering to and don’t wish others to take notice of it. However, I also think it’s creating more pressure on them to conform to higher standards because the information has been exploited and most all looking for a reputable Bull Terrier puppy will concur with the views I’ve provided within the article simply because it’s all common sense. If breeders care about their bloodline and reputation they can easily abide by these ethics unless of course they have something to hide or care more about profits from puppy sales than spending money on the things most would expect from a top quality breeder with pride in their bloodlines.
Getting back to the subject of Aegeans as a breeder, it would be unfair for me to provide an authentic opinion of them when I have never met them nor seen the environment they raise their Bull Terriers. I know @Leslie did not have a good experience with them due to genetic disorders with her female and aggression and temperament issues within her male. As @Chooba mentioned there is another discussion on this subject from Leslie that mentions her experience with this breeder. Chooba has a healthy Bull Terrier from them which is wonderful but many would also feel that’s something that should be expected. He has also made mention that they have changed their written Health Guarantees. Oddly they too make no mention of health guarantees on their website. I can only assume they may feel others wouldn’t be interested in their health Guarantees which often provides people with confidence in a puppy they wish to have within their family for many happy years.
Again, regardless what I’ve heard about this breeder from others I can’t provide an honest assessment of any breeder without meeting them and seeing how they are raising and breeding their dogs. I think they love the breed and there are tons of breeders out there that only care about puppy profits vice anything else.
Read the link I provided and don’t hesitate to ask whatever breeder you have interest in every question you can think of. If they love the breed and are proud of their Bull Terriers they will be happy to answer your questions and provide you with enough confidence to KNOW you’re getting a healthy top quality Bull Terrier.

My first BT was English Champion all of the way down the blood line, and I paid the price gladly. My BT was high-strung, OCD, and had skin issues that my vet said was hereditary...no breeding for her. That champion blood from England didn't mean much at that point.
Fast forward to today, nearly 30 years later, I have a Bullies of NC BT that has a PERFECT temperament, despite being a rescue. He is so much easier to live with than my first BT. There's some champion blood in his blood line, but meeting his parents and seeing firsthand what I could reasonably expect in the future for my BT, that was the deciding factor. He's healthy, beautiful, smart, funny, clownish, and a true joy in our lives.
It's easy to get hung up on that "Champion Bloodline" phrase, but check out the BTs temperament, too. It's important. Again, it's REALLY important. A dog with a less-than-perfect temperament or genetic issues is not what I consider a joy, even if it has a champion bloodline.
I don't know anything about the breeder you asked about, and I'm not talking about their dogs or business. I'm only speaking in general terms about my personal experiences. I'm on a wait list, and have been for over a year, I think. It doesn't matter how long it takes, because when I get my puppy, I'm expecting a full health guarantee and a breeder that will be there for me.
(Perhaps they reincarnate so that we can all be spoiled).
I would never choose a Breeder based on location. I would do a lot more research on a Breeder of choice, and ship the puppy.
Missy looks great Jcurtis! Takes after her Dad!
And I absolutely chose breeders based on location. I don't feel comfortable shipping a puppy so it was necessary for the breeder to be in driving distance. Location first, then I could sift through good and bad breeders.
They list no Health Guarantees, No Pedigrees on their Bullies, No health Tests on their breeding dogs.

Those breeders who like to claim themselves as "hobby" breeders will happily charge from $1500 - $2000 for every puppy from one of their litters. Try doing the math on total sales for 8 puppies and then calculate in two litter per year. That's how much "hobby" breeders put in their pocket without feeling the need to claim their bonafide "SALES." In the event some of the owners paid extra for Full Registration with a strict contract they will receiving income off those puppies every time they are bred for years to come. Add in stud services and they have additional funds. Hobby?
Showing dogs or entering them in agility courses is a hobby. Heck, building model airplanes is a hobby. "Selling" very expensive puppies is no hobby even if it's one litter. Don't be fooled by the expression "Hobby Breeder."
