Just wanted to get any help tips on puppy food. I have my second bull terrier he's 5 months now and weighs about 40lbs lean and I want him to reach his full potential I'm guessing 60-70lbs by 1yr old. He's currently on iams smart puppy food. Thanks I posted a picture of him on my profile.

Welcome to the Forum! My first recommendation would be to take him off
IAMS food and get him eating a good healthy grain free food.Click on the
category to right marked "Bull Terrier Nutrition and Diet." You'll find
many good topics on proper foods.

    Additionally, if your Bullie
is 5 months old both ears should be standing by now without any problem.
From the photo it appears as though he may be having a little trouble
with his left ear. Here's a link to a good video for taping the ears and
    training them to stand:

  • Both ears stand up just fine that pics slightly old. I will have to get a more updated picture of him. I just went to by blue buffalo tonight but I'm mixing it with his current Iams so the stool does get runny.

  • Hello, what I need to do to help my bull terrier get some weight? He is 1 yr old and weights 40 lbs. Now I'm giving him natural choice dry food the one with a bull terrier in the front of the bag.

Thiagol - I recommend providing him some raw meats which is not only good for him but will help put some weight on him if he needs it. Email me and I'll provide you with some good weight gain recipes.

I have two questions about nutrition.
We have 10 week old puppies, brother and sister. When we got them they were eating from the same bowl. They are 18.5 and 17 lbs. He obviously is not only larger but bigger boned. We decided to get them eating from separate bowls to enable us to see who was getting what amount, also we had to have her on chicken and rice for a week since she had the runs from something she may have picked up in the garden.
Does anyone have a chart on what they should weigh, week by week while they are growing, what volume should they be eating and what do you do about "speed eating".... Okay, that's three questions, but since they have been eating separate they compete and try to get into each other's bowl. We are transitioning them from what the breeder had them on, good quality but IAM's and Purina type, to VERY slowly get them on to Taste of The Wild, and some cooked, eventually raw meats. They eat 3 times a day and get about 2 cups of food per time. They do backflips (literally) at meal prep time and polish it all off in under a minute.  They are VERY active... I can't believe we never got two siblings before, we've had multiple dogs in house at a time, but never growing up as pups together... nothing better... they tire each other (and us) out and sleep all night. But it concerns me that they are getting enough food although everything you read says 3 cups A DAY! and when you are weighing them every couple of days it seems they are not gaining fast enough. They get zero besides their meals. Anyone's experiences and input valued.

In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
  • There is no set standard on weigh or height of Bull Terriers- so there is no saying what they should weigh. if they are healthy and are not obviously underweight (ribs and hips stick out) then they are at their ideal weight range.

female bullies generaly are smaller then males to begin with-many times they are thinner boned as well, sometimes you do find a female with extremly thick boned, but in general the females are smaller an thinner.

    PhilSgt -

Your puppies are very young to be considering adding weight. As explained in the post above mine, there is no set weight for a Bull Terrier and a lot has to do with their genetics and bloodline. I would just concentrate on providing them a well balanced diet and feed them the appropriate amount of food per their size and weight. Once they get to be about 6 months old you can get a better idea of their appetite, energy level, and food consumption. At that time you can start supplementing their diets with meats, vegetables, etc for adding weight and mass if you feel they need it. Right now I'd be providing them with 3/4 - 1 cup good quality puppy food with 1/4 can of wet puppy food mixed in. This is plenty for one puppy per feeding and you should feed your dogs twice a day.
