Just wanted to thank you for everything. Roxzee, was a perfect lady and did not at any time go potty in the kennel all the way back to Florida, we stopped at several rest areas and she behaved beautifully.  However she was on party manners at the time and now the REAL "Roxzee" has come out.  I believe you gave us an Alligator in a dogs suit or Pacman. Her little mouth never stops, but what she has done is bring back a love that was missed.  Thank you again.  Oh, I want to tell you that my Vet. told me whoever was the breeder really took care of this puppy, again thanks.

@bigpig - I'm happy to hear things are going good with Roxzee. She must feel right at home and eager to play and beg for attention. Yes, she's a true Bullie puppy with razor sharp puppy teeth and happy to use them. :))
Now is the time to let her know what is and what is not tolerated so if she wishes to teeth on your ankle you need to pinch her mouth shut and tell her "NO!" It's going to take some time because she's used to play time with her siblings and play time with them meant nipping, wrestling, and running around crazily.
Roxzee is very smart and will learn quickly. She will use the bathroom every time you let her out. It's best to let her out after eating when her stomach is full.
I too hope you post some photos of her in her new home!

@stoeger yesterday I went to the vet to schedule his check up and the vet told me she's circling the day on her calendar. She said bull terrier are very rare and in her career, only dealing with a few. I guess I'm setting myself up for every time I walk him, we are going to get stopped and asked loads of questions. How do people react to stoeg in your area?
  • Generally he gets a very warm welcome in our area.

Bullies are quite rare around here and people familiar with the breed are just like your vet, anxious to meet him.

We live in the woods and the neighbors around here actually recognize him as a Bullie but when we head into Albany it's a different story...

That is where he often gets referred to as a Pit or people try but just can't put their finger on what breed he is.

One thing is pretty constant though... Almost everyone comments on how beautiful he is, which gets his tail waggin' even more than usual ;)
  • He steals the heart I almost everyone who sees him! I think he has met two people who gave him a 'bad vibe' and he growled and hair raised. I corrected him but if I'm honest the two people were extremely sketchy and I'm glad I had him because I'd be scared of them had I been alone!
I think he just knows good from bad. He met a kid who was scared and he was so gently.
Overall though he had received positive attention, which I love!

Last Vet visit I asked and she said Trayler was the only  EBT patient she ever had.  One tech came in the room later to hug and kiss Trayler and said she had a room mate in college that owned one but Trayler was the first she's seen since.

If my wife wasn't in the room at the time, I would have asked for a hug too :D

Seon.... So THAT's why you got a Bullie huh! You reckon it's like a convertible Corvette delivering hugs from all the dolly birds huh!

  • Maya always get the "Look it's the Target Dog" from the kids in the neighborhood. With the oldies like me it's "Look it's the Spuds McKenzie Budweiser dog". And at the vet she is the center of attention. Of course, being the little lady that she is....she takes it all in with that typical bullie air of superiority!  B-)

I did a lot of researching before we decided on who would provide us with our bullie and Bullies of NC kept on popping up at the top of the list. Steve has always been standing by, ready willing and more than able to answer questions and offer advice.

In the end, Maya came from Rainbow Kennels in Spartanburg. But her daddy "Bo" is the son of Steve's stud Monstrous Max.
  • I'm always looking up bull terriers on the Internet and Steve's site is one of the first to pop up. I don't know why we didn't purchase from him? Hmmm. But we are first owners and it's hard to get approved. I tried with Baker Street bullies first but we were declined because we don't have a fence :-( I went with backwoods bc it was a no contract and we got full ownership. I don't know how I feel about co ownership bc most( that I saw) are contacts to have the pet fixed an I don't want that either. We are going to attempt toshow Stoeger or compete in obedience, with a lot of practice.
Although, I will say, the next bully we get we will try to get from Steve!

@stogesmom, it's all about the bloodline most breeders only do co ownership and limited registrations because it insures their bloodline safety from bad breeding etc. my boy is co owned by Steve but if you do decide to get a bully from him you will be happy with your choice.
  • Here's a dumb question, whats the difference between limited registration and co ownership???
Your actions speak so loudly I cannot hear your words.
  • I don't really know Leslie, I just saw it on a lot of the akc recommended breeders sites.
  • I have limited reg. On both mine. I thought it just meant I couldn't breed or show?? Which I wanted pets only anyway with no intentions ever to breed or show.
Your actions speak so loudly I cannot hear your words.
  • Leslie it right, limited is a pet only, no show or breeding rights. So if anyone was to breed a limited registration dog, they would not be able to register the litter. Co-ownership is just that, co-ownership. Typically it is a contract between the breeder and the owner of the dog so the new owners could not do anything such as breeding unless the co-owner approved. Most co-ownerships require the dog to be shown in order to breed and it's in place as a safeguard for the dog. I'm sure Steve will dive into more detail in a bit, but I could have sworn he has before in another post, I'll have to find it for you, but that's the bare basics.
  • Boyda is correct. Limited registration and co ownership keeps a handle on breeding. You don't want a BONC male with outstanding bloodlines, temperament and excellent health standards breeding an being associated with lower standard, unhealthy females. Steve did a great job of explaining this to us when we picked up Apollo. I do plan to show him but I have to request permission from Steve. Then we go from there.

We sell all our puppies with Limited Registration. In the event someone explains that the reason they want full registration is for show purposes ONLY. It's at that time I let them know they are more than welcome to receive Full Registration since all their intent is to show only. However, just to ensure inappropriate and unauthorized breeding occurs we will co-own the dog which will mandate my signature and approval to register a litter but have no affect for showing. It's usually at that time the email goes cold and I don't receive a response because their plot failed. ;)
Actually Atiba's puppy is not co-owned by me but is limited registration. He will always have the opportunity to request full registration just like anyone else that has purchased a puppy from us. I would just need to be provided details in regard to the intent, whether it be for showing or breeding. In the event it's for breeding I would obviously review the pedigree of the mate they wished to breed to ensure it was within the good graces of the breed standard.
I can't even begin to tell you how many inquiries I receive from people telling me they want to purchase a puppy from us but want to ensure the puppy will be sold with Full Rights. Hell, our website clearly explains our policy with Limited Registration. I have actually saved a response for this response so I can copy and paste my response. this is what is says:

As depicted on our website and puppy sales contracts, all our puppies are sold with limited registration. This isn’t because we do not wish for them to become future breeders but to protect our bloodlines and reputation from inappropriate breedings that could jeopardize our reputation as well as minimize the proper breed standards.

As an example, let’s say we sold a female puppy to someone with Full Registration. This would mean they could breed her to whomever they wished regardless if it was in the good graces of the breed standards. Let’s say this female puppy turned two years of age and the owner noticed a friend or neighbor that had a male bull terrier and made the decision to breed their dog with this dog. Even if the male dog had undesirable conformation, structure, temperament, etc the intent was for financial gain. When the puppies were born they could be advertised in the owners local paper as puppies with “Bullies of NC’s Bloodline.” Those puppies may very well develop genetic disorders due to the bloodlines of the stud utilized. However, the only recognized bloodline listed on the puppies pedigree happens to be Bullies of NC. Someone that just paid more than $1000 for a puppy they thought was reputable is now faced with a puppy with possible liver, kidney, heart, problems that require extensive medical responsibilities. They also may feel notification to AKC is warranted so others aren’t faced with the negative genetic faults associated with Bullies of NC’s bloodline. Obviously the genetic fault doesn’t stem from that particular bloodline but it’s the one that was mentioned, remembered, and used in vain. This is every breeders nightmare.

Breeders that care about their bloodlines don’t allow things like this to happen by mandating all puppies sold to be registered as “Limited.” Please understand that this doesn’t mean they could never breed their Bull Terrier. However, it does mean if they wish to breed they would need to contact us in order to change their registration to FULL. We often have people contacting us for full rights to their dog for the intention of breeding their dog. The first thing we ask for is the pedigree of the other dog they wish to breed with. By reviewing the pedigree I can ensure it’s an appropriate breeding that consists of bloodlines that will benefit the breed vice making the qualities worse. The main concern is ensuring proper and professional breeding is conducted which will not jeopardize the reputation we’ve developed for many years.

If you need further explanation or anything I’ve annotated doesn’t make sense please feel free to call me and I’ll elaborate.

This reply seems to work well and fend off those looking to appropriate a reputable bloodline for all the wrong reasons. In truth, those breeders that provide Full Rights on their puppies either have no reputation what so ever or could care less what people do with their bloodlines. It just isn't good practice if you're a breeder that has pride in the bloodlines that you've developed and wish to maintain respect for by controlling proper future breeding and the possibilities of improper breeding.
