How old should they be to tape the ears

Hi everyone,

I am a newcomer to both bull terrier breeds and this page.

I have recently purchased my first, he is now 8 weeks old and has one floppy ear. I have read so much about taping but my question is, at what point or how old, do we say, yep it's not going to make it on its own and I need to tape it? Picture is of Caesar at 8 weeks!

Hope you can help me!

Welcome to the Forum Waywardangel! Caesar looks stunning!
It's best to be proactive in the aspect of taping and training his ears to stand verse crossing your fingers with full confidence that they'll stand on there on.
I recommend starting the process now and if his ears and strong you might be able to get both those ears up in only a couple days.

    Welcome to the forum!

It's no wonder Caesar has stolen your heart, look at that face!!!

He's so darn cute with that floppy ear. It is a shame it's gotta go :D

Please keep us posted, I'd love to watch that little one grow up.

You could also try the other technique of putting an EXTRASTRENGTH BreatheRight strip inside her right ear. Be sure to clean off the oily surface with alcohol first and place it closer to the outside edge at the base, slanted to the center of the ear at the top. Don't get the bottom too deep in the ear otherwise it'll irritate, but not too shallow either so it renders support. (try with your fingers lightly to see where support best works).... She will hardly know it's there if you get it on right.... much less likelihood of her working that off.  You can also side-by-side overlap two BreatheRight strips to reinforce support.  If it stands up straight but still flops because of weight, then you may want to tether it to the strong ear with a strip of some athletic (strapping) tape. (below pic) Again, try it with your fingers first to get best positioning... then they'll support one another..... the trick is using as little material as possible so it bothers them least.

In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.
