Help needed for my 5 month old EBT

My 5 month old male EBT is starting to have signs if bald patches. I took him to the vets who took a scrapping and saod straight away that he had mites.

They prescribed a 1 off shampoo which was toxic which I was scared to use, but although he seems to have stopped scraching he is still getting bald patches. Can some please help before thing start to get worse :-( if you have any advice it would be very much appreciated.

What kind of mites does he have? If it's demodex mange, then I wouldn't worry to much, but if it's the other I would stick him in the bath with that stuff right away. Does your vet know anything about EBTs... How does he know its mites? Do you have pictures that you can post? What diet is he on, all details please. Is he white or brindle?

@LisaG27 - I'm willing to bet your EBT has a small bald spot on the center of his head and one at the base of tail. These are the two most common areas for Bull Terriers especially at his age. The cause is mites but the reason is its immune system. I post a discussion on this subject a few months ago because it's something I'm seeing more and more of lately. I often see the same spots on Facebook pictures. From time to time I hear people discussing it and calling it mange, hot spots, allergies, etc.
What your Bull Terrier needs is something to boost his immune system so he won't have any negative effects from common mites found on all dogs. The problem occurs when a dogs immune system may be a little under developed. Most dogs will have no effect from mites unless their immune system is working overtime in attempt to ward off any negative reactions. Look up the most common causes for localized demodectic mange and you'll conclude it to be a fault within the dogs immune system. Many Bull Terriers suffer from this in their youth and slowly improve as they mature.
My recommendation to you would be to provide your Bullie with a supplement that will boost his immune system. I use a product called NuVet. I would also rub some Bag Balm on the problem areas.
