Chimera has an ear infection

My poor Chimera went into the vets today, last Thursday she started shaking her head a little and messing with her right ear.

it was a bit gunkey-not to bad, so I started cleaning it out myself with some dog ear cleaning pads.

by Saturday it was very red and inflamed-but the vets are not open Saturday or sunday and Monday was labor day so they were not open.

I called Tuesday but they could not see he until today.

so today she had to have her right ear deep cleaned because the infection was so bad-  she got a pain jab and an antibiotic jab.

and was sent home with 3 medications-2 types of pills and some ear drops.

she did very well thruout though, it was very painful having her ear cleaned, but she never nipped anyone or even tried, she cried and cowerd though till they gave her the pain meds.

but now she is in her crate sleeping, she was woozey and upset after coming home and not much in the mood for Cesar to play with her.

but, thankfully she is well on her way  to feeling better. I just wish it had happened the week before instead of right around labor day causing us to wait so long!

Yeah, I notice that on the last picture of her, ... nasty looking.  It's amazing how quickly they start shaking their heads when ears are troubling. We clean our kids' ears everyday, (nasty lake water here!!)...and they still complain now and then. Our last girl had a LOT of yeast infections, (we were ignoramuses on food then) ... and she shook her head so much that she got hematomas in both ear bodies... which collapsed and the ears "crumpled"... we all really gotta watch out for ears all the time.... Hope Chimera gets over it quickly!!

Ear infections can definetely get bad fast. I've seen quite a few Bullies mess their ears up permenantly in the exact fashion that Phil described.
About 7 years I was breeding Kolohe to a very nice stud from Lionhearts named Lincoln. He was such a gorgeous red and white Bullie. He too ended up with a bad ear infection that messed up the cartilage of his ear. Here's a couple before and after shots.

Kim, I hope she gets well soon.

  • Awww, poor things!

it is pretty crazy how quickly they can go from not so bad-to extremely bad.

apporx 1 week she started having slight symptoms, I was using over the counter ear cleaning pads several times per day to get the gunk out then all of a sudden WHOOSH! red and nasty.

Yeah, that yeast grows faster than fungus! Wicked stuff... There is ointment that clears it up just as fast, see picture below, and we always keep some on hand to nip it in the bud... Saves waiting until the stores open.
