First English Bull Terrier

edited August 2013 in General
Hello All,

My name is Sade and I am a new member. I am looking into getting my first EBT, any advice would be appreciated! :)

During my quest to find the perfect bull terrier pup I came across Bullies of NC; sadly, the waiting list is full. Is there any other breeders that people know about that I can look into?

  • Welcome Sade. I'm sure there are other reputable breeders. But I'm sticking with Bulliesof NC. Even though Maya did not come directly from them, her daddy and grandaddy did. That waiting list will be pared down soon enough. Steve will be up to his ears in pups here in a few weeks. Patience is a virtue...especially in acquiring the best breed of dog on the planet!

Hi BeaslesaBullyLover!  Where are you located? I believe you will find many people are reticent about recommending a breeder who has a "quick" delivery period (short wait list) because they are afraid to take responsibility if you end up unhappy. We similarly "couldn't wait" six months and were lucky enough to find a private breeder who only has litters once or twice per year, and are very very happy with the result.  They were not easy to find and I think you will find it a hard search, (but not impossible), to find a litter from good quality parentage.  Perhaps some will make specific suggestions but it might be best if you search and ask the "team" here if they have any knowledge or experience of your "finds".... How long could you wait? and what are you looking for in an EBT... ie. do you have small kids, other dogs, cats? whatever... all helps.
In the beginning God created English Bull Terriers, in the image of EBT's, God created all other breeds.

There are good breeders available. However, they all will have waiting lists if they have reputable bloodlines that possess quality within health, temperament, structure, and conformation. The internet is a powerful tool for conducting thorough research on breeders and the puppies they produce.
Do yourself a big favor by staying away from the 3rd party websites like PuppyFinder, NextDayPets, Pet4You, etc. These are websites the puppy mills and backyard breeders utilize because they have no reputation as breeders and require assistance to advertise through "Paid" websites. These breeders rely heavily on impulse buyers that fall in love with a cute photo of a puppy. Reputable breeders usually have their litter of puppies spoken for the day they are born.
You can do a lot of research through AKC as well to view pedigrees, kennel names, stud records, etc.
Here's link I highly recommend you reading in your pursuit in finding a reputable breeder.

Find a breeder through your local dog clubs or BT club. Waiting is an option as well since this is a major commitment but if the time is now then find the right one.

Where are you located if you don't mind me asking.
