Nala Tigerlily

This is my family other then my man behind the camera! We are starting intense training right now for weight pulling but I was wondering what anyone else thought about her type should I take the time in training for showing or stick with the pulling.

He's a nice looking Bullie but I would say he may not have quite the structure and conformation for show purposes. Weight pulling would be something he'd surely enjoy. What's his weight and height?

  • do you have any other side shots of her head??
  • Nala is a year old and she weighs 50lbs I will have to measure her for height and I will post a side shot of her head when I do that. I love her so much I suffer from PTSD from the military and am working towards her becoming my theapy dog. I feel like I owe it to the breed to promote it in some way. She really is a blessing.

Maybe you could use her as a therapy dog for other military members who don't have a dog or are undergoing treatment at "Wounded Warrior Barracks" and other treatment facilities. I think your Bullie would make an awesome therapy dog and many others would enjoy seeing her and spending time with her.

I think you are the first women I've ever spoke to that had PTSD. What was your MOS while serving on deployment? My last deployment was with 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. However, like every Grunt Unit, we did not have any females in our unit nor were there any females anywhere around our area of operation (Al Anbar Providence, around the Syrian Border).

  • I was stationed on the CVN 70 Carl Vinson in the Navy. I never did a deployment off ship in Iraq or Afghanistan, but thank you for your service there. I was an EM in the Navy made it to E4 before they gave me the boot because of my condition after 5 years of service. I was Sexual Assaulted by another service member who was never brought to justice. I have just recently got the courage to tell others what happend and I'm coming to understand more that awareness is key to prevent more cases. I have talked to other service members who suffer from PTSD and even though for different reasons I can relate to them. It is a life altering disease, I am just now learning some of my triggers and having Nala there to keep me an eye on me makes feel safer again. I'm trying to start living as normal as a life as possible. I would love to help others and I will have to look into The Wounded Warrior Barrack and other treatment facilities in the future once I have made a little more progress with training for both Nala and I. If you would like I will keep posting on progress in the training with Nala. Do you do weight pulling with any of your bullies? We haven't started that training yet but I hope it will be something she will enjoy. I was hoping by OCT I might be able to attend Silverwood in PA this year depending on both of our progress, have you ever been? It looks to be a good place to go to learn more about the breed and get some testing done.  Also I had one question maybe you might be able to answer if you have time I have been noticing what looks like bites on Nalas tummy she is treated with Advantix on the 6th every month and didn't know if it could be flees I don't see any on her but don't know what else it could be.
Thank you for your time and your service

Well I commend you for the courage of confronting your past and working in good spirits to overcome it. I think you’re on the right track with having a Bull Terrier by your side as a loyal comrade who will never let you down.

My mistake was assuming your PTSD was combat related as I’ve had plenty of experience with fellow Marines with the same diagnosis. I too have issues in regard to PTSD and although I’ve lost many good Marines to the fight against terrorism I cherish every day I’m home with family and friends and I try my best not to dwell on things that happened in that big kitty litter box of the world. I’m now retired after 21 years in the Corps, regret nothing, and pride myself on the accomplishments and commitment I gave for our country. I never attempt to bore anyone with the sacrifices involved and the hardship of rough times. Those that served understand and those that didn’t show at least show appreciation to the military who go through what they do to protect our country.

I think no matter what you set your mind to whether it be showing, pulling, or therapy you’ll find it rewarding. If you wish to show your Bullie – Go for it. Who cares about placement or standings. Show her off and let everyone know how proud you are of her. There are a lot of different events in your area that you could participate in. I’m not that fortunate here in NC. Most events would require a few days of preparation and travel and I’m so committed to all my dogs that I’d feel guilty for taking off on the others and neglecting their daily outings in the woods where they can play and enjoy life.

I wish they had weight pulling competition around here. I think I’d truly love to get involved with that and I’m more than confident that some of my bullies would too.

The marks you see on Nalas tummy could be caused from many things. If she’s treated with advantix I’s rule out fleas or ticks and start looking more into allergies. Try changing out her diet. It could be seasonal. I’ve had good luck by utilizing a good diet that’s specific to the breed as well as supplements.

Your Bullie looks fantastic and your ambition for engaging her in shows or pulling competition is great. Heck, try them both and see how she does. It truly doesn’t matter as long as you both have fun and you know no matter what she’s coming home with you with a doggie smile on her face and her tail wagging. She’ll always be by your side and that’s all that matters.

Yes – Please continue to post progress.

  • I would just like to thank you both for the courage and love you both have shown this country and for puting your lives on the line for our freedom. Sara I hope you find peace you have chosen a great companion:)
Your actions speak so loudly I cannot hear your words.
  • if she enjoys weight pulling i think that would be great for her!! you can always give conformation a try, though her head doesnt seem right for it, its fun too though! just to give it a try its not hard to do! thank you for serving our country, your bullie is gorgeous!

Another option would be Rally Competetions. This is something that is becoming more and more popular. We just had one of the customers who purchased a puppy from us a while back recently earn her AKC Rally Novice Certificate. Seems like a lot of fun and something you both could be involved in. Here's a link that talks about it: http://www.akc.org/events/rally/getting_started.cfm

  • Thanks everyone I will keep posting with her as we continue training. I think I will stick with the pulling as long as she continues to enjoy it! I have her on Orijens right now and raw diet Blueridge I get it from the local butcher. I don't know if that is the problem but I did notice today she excreted grass. I don't know if she could be allergic to that but the bumps seem to be fading even though she licks them occasionally. I thank you for this form it's nice to talk to people with more experience with this breed.
    Thank you,
    God Bless
  • some dogs are allergic to grass, but dogs eat grass for a number of reasons, stomach upset, to make themselves vomit, cause they like the texture, to help digestion ect.
  • my dogs can sometimes get little bumps on them too from playing in the grass.
  • My Bullies have those little round, light red spots, too, and they are treated with Frontline every month.  I just thought they were from other bugs biting them while they play or lie around in the grass.
My Bullies and my Jack Russell eat grass all the time.  Sometimes they vomit and sometimes they don't.
