NC State Universary Veternarian School
Today I took the trip out to NC State Vet School with Craig to get a second opinion on the sperm count on Lucian. Lucian received a sperm count about a year ago in Wilmington which concluded with the diagnosis of Lucian having a low sperm count that wouldn't be sufficient for appropriate stud service. Today we decided to get a second opinion and I'm glad we did. The facility had all the state of art diagnostic test equipment (far better than staring at the sperm sample through a cheap microscope). We were told his sperm count was perfect and contained appropriate readings in all areas. We were both very happy but also a little mad due to fact we were given bunk information previously from a local Vet.
This Vet also offered a sperm bank for canines which would retain frozen semen for many years after the stud was long gone from this world. The technology they have now a days is fantastic. One sperm sample taken from the stud can be used for 5 seperate breedings. Not only is this service good for use within our breeding program for years to come but is also good for those who which to purchase frozen semen from us and have it shipped from our Vet who's maintaining it at the university directly to their Vet in another state.
I sure wish NC State Vet School was closer but I plan on taking advantage of the services they offer that can't be found anywhere else in the state.

Craig only tried to breed him twice. Once with one of his females and once with a customers dog. Both were A.I.'d.
I can't really think that we did anything that would have authentically improved his sperm count. We were actually talking about this exact subject coming back from Raleigh yesterday. Craig thinks the NuproGold supplement he's beed giving Lucian may have helped since it is packed with a lot of nutritional values. I guess there's a chance that his diet helped but I truly think the Vet in Wilmington didn't provide us with accurancy. I think most Vets will do anything to prevent breeding regardless of the health, quality, and bloodlines of the dog. Don't ask me why but all three Vets in my local area frown when you mention anything to do with breeding. Who knows, maybe it takes away from their anticipated pay day when they know they won't be conducting surgery for neutering or spaying.
