Hair

Hi all, is it normal for my pups neck and ears to have very little hair? It has always been that way i had never realized it might be strange until it was pointed out today. No issues she is happy healthy and full of energy. She is currently on VICTOR HI

ENERGY, takes immune support tablets, and I vary between fish oil and coconut oil added to her kibble.

    Hello

Upload photo so we can see before commenting🙂 I'm sure your vet would've picked up in this if it was a concern.

  • I have been trying to upload a photo but i keep getting an error message im not sure why. I thought the same but our vet has never mentioned anything. The person that pointed it out today said a relative of theirs has a few EBTs and that they all have hair on their neck and ears.

Try attaching your pic via the attach file icon🙂

Paperclip didn't work for me initially.

They definitely have hair on their necks and ears as you can see in uploaded posts from us all.

Unsure if you have reason to worry without seeing a photo🤔

  • You have to press on the "attach file" wording then it'll upload from phone gallery

Here are some pics. She has always been like that i thought it was normal. The redness is from her training collar she is usually only pink.

    Hello

The ears look normal and the chest/neck area is definitely irritated and the collar is most likely the culprit. I would try another and see if any improvement. Do you leave it off at home? You can spray colloidal silver on the rash intermittently for relief. There are many suggestions for rashes as you know🙂

  • Yes the collar is off at home (everyday use collar) and the prong collar 2 hrs every other day with trainer supervision of course. Where might i be able to find the spray?

I buy it was online but health shops sell colloidal silver in spray forms.

I put capful in their drinking water too👍 but cheaper to buy bigger bottle if you go down this path🙂

  • His ears look fine to me and the neck is most likely just the collar wear from pulling on the leash. My bully has it and my friend's bully has it too.

Her hair looks pretty normal especially for a white Bull Terrier. Her diet is excellent too. Brushing her hair often is good for their coat too and something you may want to consider if you're wanting to see her coat thicken. Winter months you will certainly see her coat thicken also.

Just thought I'd mention as I didn't see it before, is that a flea collar you're using too? Maybe this irritates her. Does she try to scratch her neck? Just thought I'd mention this🙂

  • @jur45 thank you i will look into buying it hopefully it helps.

@Brooklyn thank you i feel alot better now knowing others have it to. I was worried maybe something was going on with her skin.

@BulliesofNC thank you i try and take great care of her. We usually brush once a week sometimes twice if we see alot of shedding.

@jur45 it is a mosquito collar she only wears when we go to the lake or park but she does not seem bothered by it no scratching when she wears it.

I see this same thing in my last 2 EBT's. The thin looking hair is of no concern to me. It looks funny, only when someone thinks it does. But what in the world would make anyone think an EBT would have anything normal about them? Compared to other K9's, these EBT's are an alien. lol  Nothing about them is normal. I would not be too concerned. If I see what looks to be a hot spot or the typical spot on the back of the head or base of tail (glands). I liberally rub in some Bag Balm. Within a couple to a few days, it is cleared up.

All the best to you, it sounds like you have a good grip on taking care of her. :)

BTW, I have to remind my vet that they are examining an EBT. Then they leave the room and return with a book and a new plan. EBT's are truly "Different".
  • Mine got little hair on his neck due to allergies, u need to watch for allergies breaking out with time, when i see red spot on a bully i become paranoid cos mine is allergic and on immune theraphy
