Severe Atopic Dermatitis

Hey guys,
I appreciate your time in advance. I am the very happy owner of a beautiful brindle boy named Beans. He is 5 years old and for the last 4 years of his life we have been struggling with the chronic skin condition atopic dermatitis. He was on apoquel for 3 years and we have just started the cytopoint monthly injection which he pretty much needs to the day, before he starts having an attack. To put it in perspective we have in the last 6 months been to the vet 12-14 times. He is CONSTANTLY getting secondary infections. They are the worst on his back legs where his callouses are and it’s got to the point where he has sinus tracts. I manage as best I can at home with medicated baths, neocort cream, bandages, etc but I am at my wits end. I have swapped and changed his diet, (he is now on raw). I’m just wondering if anyone has experienced similar ? I’m starting to worry about his quality of life, they have given us steroid tablets to help with severe attacks but only for maximum 3 days at a time. They help immensely but I understand they have their own side effects. I am about to book in with a dermatology specialist. What have you guys had success with? Have any of you seen a dermatologist and had beneficial outcomes? My heart breaks for my baby and I just don’t know what else to do! Thank you sooo much.

Just wandering where you are?
Relating to environment conditions Beans encounters
How does the heat affect Beans? My boys struggle but get to enjoy the beach early morning for their exercise n play at least.
Sorry to hear Beans has struggled so long with skin issues. I have my fair share but am not dependent on medication at least. It’s unfortunate we cannot get the nuvet supplements here. It would really help our boys I believe. I get supps from iloveadog in Byron Bay. Check out this site. Donna is extremely helpful. You may send her an email to discuss Beans concerns and see what she may recommend for you. Tell her I recommend her. She’s been more helpful than any vet regarding skin, immune issues. I’m still dealing with issues but it doesn’t hinder their ability to be able to run, play and are alot more energetic. Hope this can help

Hi I wanted to update about my dog Cheeka that I asked a while back about skin issues. She passed away at the beginning of November she apparently had kidney failure and is why we struggled to heal her. And why she was hard to diagnose. A handful of vets in the beginning never ran bloods on her and were so arrogant and just wanted her on meds for the rest of her life. We finally found a Homeopathic vet that we liked and we thought and him also that bloods were taken and analyzed and is why we had her on thyroid meds but in the end he apologized because he had only looked to see if she had a thyroid problem. My heart is broken as she was my world, she went everywhere with me and I still cry from time to time. But I do have to admit she is no longer suffering, bless her. Anyways I just wanted to let you know.
@NettNett I'm so sorry for the loss of Cheeka and I know no words will fill the void. She was a beautiful BT
