Obstruction

My dog started vomiting on Sunday. I brought him to the emergency vet on Monday where they did bloodwork and an x-ray. The x-ray showed no foreign body but the bloodwork showed questionable pancreatitis. So they treated him with fluids and nausea meds and sent him home. The next day took him to his regular vet where they did the same thing. That night he did not seem himself he was more sleepy not moving and still not eating. The last time he had vomited though was Monday morning at 9 AM. So the meds were working. I brought them first thing to the emergency vet on Wednesday morning where they performed a small bowel surgery to remove a piece of a ball Which they found on ultrasound. It’s two days past the surgery, and I went to see him and he’s really skinny. Not eating. The last time he ate was Sunday morning which he threw up. I don’t know if anyone can share their experience with me. I’m so sad. It’s been 2 days at the emergency hospital and he’s not eating. He looks so sick. I’m so anxious and worried. Any comfort or advice is appreciated. The doctors barely talk to me, I always get the receptionist at the front desk.

Demand an update from the vet themselves. They should have him on some sort of IV or vitamin supplement being pushed into him. The vet should be completely updating you personally. EVERYDAY. That is the least they should be doing.
All the best to you, I would expect nothing less then what I have stated above. Ask if you can try to hand feed him some soft food. They most likely will not deny you that. It will ease your pain and anxiety if you can just do that for him. Much love to you.
  • I was able to speak to the doctor caring for him today. He is getting IV fluids, Reglan (to stimulate his gut), nausea meds. But he is still not eating and they are concerned he will get an ileus (when the gut stops moving). They want to keep him another night, which is fine. My heart is broken at how sick he is. He has lost so much weight from not eating for 6 days. If anyone has every had a dog that went thru the same surgery, please comment below. They said it “can be” normal for him not to want food due to the medications and pain, but She also said “most dogs just start eating once they are a few hours post surgery”
  • Moscow ate a memory foam bed. A lot of it. Along with the fibrous material. After he passed it (horrible time, lots of sickness and weight loss....plenty of cuddles and love) he didn't want to eat and I had to try so many things. Thankfully he would drink kefir. Which slowly got his appetite going. Best wishes to you <3
