Beach days assistance!

Hi! So I'm very hesitant about going to the beach because I can't seem to find a sunscreen for Moscow that is reviewed well tbh. All the dog specific ones are so mix reviewed and either way if I ordered one it wouldn't get here in time! Everything I read says no baby sunscreen! But then I see here (years ago posts) people saying they use them! Of course no zinc, but what are your experiences and with which baby sunscreen? Also, I put paw balm in his paws but should i just go ahead and find booties for him ? Im worried the sand will be too hot! Or he may step on a clam or something lol...He's got a raised bed and a cooling mat and bandana to keep him cool for extended periods out there...anyone had any luck with specific goggles and/or a hat that fits our fat pigs heads? :))

Your always going to read negative reviews on any product. Don't be scared to experiment a little on your own. I've had my Bullies on the beach many times but I'm one to allow them to be dogs. They don't wear sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, chapstick, shoes, etc. I have nothing against those that utilize these products for their dogs. However, I think it's better to be more aware of the sun exposure time frames, time of day you choose to take your dog on the beach, temperature outside, etc.

  • Yep! Of course I skim through and I read good and bad reviews, just wanted to see if anyone else had any pawsitive feedback of their own here >:D<
We go shrimping so that is mainly at night but we spend majority of the days on the beach too, we have shade canopies and plenty of cool mat space of course but Mos LOVES the water. So its hard to avoid the sun. We keep him Well moisturized and had to get him shoes after this first trip with him as he managed to hurt his paws as he resisted me picking him up to put him back in the car, he had little spurs in between his toes so me being the dog mom I am I doctored him up and pricked each one out with tweezers. I think those in conjunction with the hot sand did not mix with his already fairly sensitive paws! Lesson learned! He refused to walk for 3 days. I kept them oiled up and gave him peroxide-epsom salt soaks. The inflammation cleared up as soon as I picked the litter spurs so I think they were very sore from the whole ordeal (Please imagine us carrying our big butthead in and out of the house to use it, carrying him to his bed or to our room, he loves to be with us so if we moved throughout the house we carried him along lol). His nose was a little pink despite applying and reapplying the sun wipes, his BALLS GOT SO RED SO NOW IM TRYING TO FIND SOME KIND OF SHORT TO PROTECT THEM! Lol but he had so much fun!! Any advice is always welcome :-c

    Hi everyone!
I'm new to the forum and read tons of helpful information on this site for my puppy. Thank you so much everyone :)
I have a 3 month old female bull terrier puppy, her name is Billie . She has the most sensitive skin- She's allergic to grass, her fair skin flares up into rash . I was looking for sunscreen for her and found "Epi-Pet Sun Protector Suncreen" and was wondering if anyone here has tried it?
Thank you all for sharing all your wonderful stories, pictures and advice!!
    P.S.
Here are some current pics of my pretty girl!<img src="https://bulliesofnc.com/BTforum/uploads/Uploader/71/697a1ff4ed87eaecd741fde268e7f6.jpg" /><img src="https://bulliesofnc.com/BTforum/uploads/Uploader/71/697a1ff4ed87eaecd741fde268e7f6.jpg" />

Love her nose and spot she is a real cutie
  • Super cute @Billie_Tina ! I didnt end up trying the epi pet sun screen, I got the wipes which didn't seem to make a huge difference. Have since invested in a few thin shirts (white) to let him wear as a layer of protection. Limiting the exposure is def the best precaution. He loves scooting around in the grass and also has bad allergies. I physically have to pick him up when he tries to or else he will be itchy for weeks. Two baths a week using sensitive skin and allergy relief shampoos! Lots of doggy wipes with aloe after each outside time!

  • Thank you everyone for your advice and compliments 😊

  • I've also purchased some skin balm from Natural Dog Company for her skin allergies and it's doing wonders!

  • I use their balms as well!!! He just tries to eat it more times than not :D

  • Lol, so does Billie! But when she has a really bad rash, she just lays there and let's me apply it without squirming around. I'm guessing because it's soothing. I also got cholrohexidine wipes and the combination of the two products, help her skin issues. She had a big flare up last week from playing outside in the grass (I noticed her skin reacts more to wet grass)
I feel so bad that her skin is so sensitive, it breaks my heart. I take precautions with her and doctor her up when it happens. It usually takes 3 days for it to completely heal.

  • Mos's skin got so bad we finally took him to banfield and thankfully we had a very pleasant experience (ive stated in prior posts I was hesitant obviously because it's a petsmart vet) and ended up signing him up on a wellness plan. They gave him a shot, 10 day supply of meds and ear drops because his allergies had caused an ear infection which led to a bacterial infection in his skin and ears!!!!! He cleared up almost immediately and hes even been able to go outside and run around!!!! I was so shocked!!! I was using chlorhexidine, benadryl, aloe wipe, NUMEROUS sprays and shampoos and the natural dog co. Stuff....NOTHING made it better entirely. We might be taking him for the allergy shot once a month because he's starting to get itchy again and it's been almost 3 weeks!!

  • Poor Moscow!! Im so glad that the allergy shot and the medications worked for him 🤗
That's great that you had a good experience there! I too was looking to take Billie to their vet for preventative care as well as for her flea meds. I think im going to try their grooming department as well. Billie needs to get her nails trimmed again and she will NOT let me touch her nails without screaming bloody murder and fighting me. I think she also has hyperkeratosis on her paws :(, so hopefully they'll be able to take care of that.

  • Chlorhexodine soaks and the paw soother stuff applied daily (I usually do 2x daily) because of his!!! I also do epsom salt soaks! I actually trim his hyperkeratosis myself. I took mos to their groomer to get his done and they did pretty good but I ended up buying clippers and a grinder because I felt I could do the job well. Lol I loved that they gave me the 3in1 6 month supply of flea heart stuff, at my vet they wouldnt allow that!

Last evening I got the stink eye for clipping one of McKenzie's dew claws without her approval. She even went to the wife to tell on me. Little does she know, I will get the other one tonight. I'm considering taking to a fingernail file. She doesn't mind that too much. Lucky for us. She runs on the concrete and files her main nails to the perfect length. These dogs are such turds. I guess I can't have a BT that likes baths and nail trimming. It's either one or the other.

  • That is too cute- she went and told your wife, haha. I took her into the groomer's and they clipped Billie's nails in 5 mins (I was in awe!)
