Online Breeder Scam

PetrolflyPetrolfly Richmond, VA
Came across a breeder Harwichbullterrier.com that is scamming folks looking for a puppy. I contacted them and received a lovely email that would dupe most trusting people. I began reverse searching the pictures of the available puppies and found the pics had been lifted from Instagram.

There are MANY scammers online who claim to be selling puppies. Hopefully people are doing appropriate research on the breeder prior to even setting up a date to come meet with them.

  • People are crazy

everybody’s a dog breeder these days it makes me disgusted

just today I was cutting grass

I have a very long driveway and you can’t see my house from the road but my bullies had followed me down to the end while I was cutting....they were standing behind the gate while I cut around the mailbox

A Jeep pulled in which kind of puzzled me

I looked at the guy kind of strange and as I shut down the mower I asked what can I do for you as I motioned to my dogs to stand with they were and not get near the road ...he immediately said come look in the jeep

I said I don’t wanna look in the jeep we are to close to the road let me take my dogs up to the main house follow me up

When we got up to the house he proceeded to show me a lovely tricolor female bull terrier about 17 months old

He said I can see your male is intact How much would you want to breed to him

I said I really wasn’t interested in breeding him that I really didn’t like indiscriminate breeding and I knew nothing about his dog or him or the people the puppies would go to

I also said you don’t know anything about my male why would you have interest in bringing to a dog you’ve never seen the papers on or know anything about

He asked if he is papered ? I’m interested he’s a beautiful dog

After letting his female play with my male a little bit I told him she is a beautiful female and seems to be a wonderful dog but again I really am not interested in breeding it’s not what I care to do but you’re welcome to keep bringing your dog around to [run in the woods and play with them

He replied that he needed to find a male by the time she was two years old because he wanted to breed her

I knew right then that even though the dog was lovely I really have no interest in doing anything like that

I wish people would take dog breeding more serious

it’s a shame when these beautiful breeds go to the wrong people and homes

He kept asking what kind of money would it take to get to use my dog as a stud and I just said I’m not interested man but please bring her around to play she’s quite beautiful and I’d love to see how she turns out

Ive had quite a few sketchy characters corner me for a number of reasons. Usually they want to know when I'm going to have puppies, not noticing that the plumbing is all wrong.

A few more that think im lying. one or 2 even asked where I live.

    Yeah, Um, go #### yourself.

Michigan had its moments but Its even worse now that I'm in Missouri.

Not sure I would ever let him come up to the house. I picture you out on a country rode in PA. Been there, not sure I would notice a bully off to the side behind a gate unless I was driving slow and I knew what I was looking for.

Neither Chooba or Boomer would be opposed to making a friend if they got inside and I wasnt there.
Intimidating from a distance, but looking for belly rubs from strangers up close.
  • I would never bring somebody up to the house. My little dog gets a lot of attention in public. I lie and tell strangers my mini was 350$, that she doesn't have papers and she has to take $200 worth of medication a month to live.... It is why she is so small. I dont want anyone interested or thinking they want to come steal her out of my yard or house .... jack me or my wife on an evening walk.

I have resigned myself to protect my dogs with deadly force without hesitation like I would any other family member.

The good people I got her from got ripped off by a Russian kennel before finally securing genetically diverse MBT breeding stock from Spain. The Russian kennel had previous glowing reviews.

  • I’m not worried to have a guy pull in my driveway to show me a dog

He’s welcome to bring the dog back and free run it in my woods

I wasn’t about to let him let his dog out with my dogs by a busy road

Many people bring dogs here to exercise and train so that’s not my worry

My point was he seems so anxious to find a stud without even knowing what I really had

Everyone wants to be a Breeder and that’s a shame because very few should be and that’s the point of my story

  • I've lost count of the people asking if I am going to stud Chief and wanting my number to check with me over possible litters in the future. Although it is nice to get complements on Chief practically everywhere we go, the commitment level of having a "happy" bull terrier is much higher than your average dog.
    First things first:
    1) I would only consider breeding chief after he clears a genetics test.
    2) Any potential mate will have to have been genetically tested.
    3) A screening process and practice will have to be in place by the breeder.

I would want to have peace of mind that his pups would be going to people that know and get the EBT needs and temperament.

There are many male Bull Terriers but only a handful of true "Stud" Dogs.

  • I agree and the truest of the true "Stud" Dogs reside in their place of origin England.

I’m with bulls_borders... my pup is only months and I lie all the time about what he’s actually worth. I hate people who only see them as breeding potential and what they could make. I know I could make good money off my male in the future but have no ambition to do so. It isn’t about that. The one good thing I will say, at least in Ontario, is BTs are difficult to find so there’s isn’t many careless backyard breeders here- if any. Took me months to locate a standard BT pup.
