Crave Dog Food

Hi all my dog currently has hives and losing fur. Currently I’m feeding her Victor Ultra Pro and coconut oil. I’ve tried many things and not seeing improvements. Thinking of switching her to Crave dog food and adding nuvet to her diet. Any thoughts on Crave dog food?

  • We do Victor/nuvet/grizzly oil and they work really well. I have 2 dogs with allergy issues and although they have gotten better they are still on allergy medication.

Victor is a high quality kibble and according to dogfoodadvisor Crave seems to be as well. https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/crave-dog-food-dry/
I don't know the food and only quickly looked up the dry variant.

Regardless, it sounds like your dog is having an allergic reaction and even THE BEST FOOD (if that ONE and only food existed) could not resolve the issue if it contains an ingredient your dog is allergic to.
You did not detail which things you have already tried.
But if you want to find out if a food ingredient is the trigger you can either try allergy testing OR you can try an exclusion diet.
In this diet (usually home made with fresh ingredients) you eliminate or add ingredients (meat, other animal protein, veggies etc.) until you do no longer see an allergic reaction or if you add until symptoms return. Reducing the triggers or switching out single components is the better way in order to still provide your dog with all of the necessary vitamins and nutrients.
The same diet needs to be fed over several weeks in order to get reliable results.
Just switching foods without a strategy will get you nowhere unless you are really lucky in case your are dealing with a food allergy.
In order to boost your dog's immune system - ideally once you have a suspicion of the trigger to make sure nothing in those products can interfere your results - you can feed add-ons such as Salmon oil and extra vitamins/minerals. There are great products on the market, such as NuVet, Nupro and others. You mentioned it already. It's definitely a good idea!
