Ears taped now 4 times

We have had 3 bullies over the last 30 years and are now on our 4th. We have always needed to tape at least one ear on all of them . This guy we just started with, was whelped Aug 1st has given us an unusual situation. Both ears came up on their own about Dec 5th. But the right ear fell again within a day.
We have now taped that ear to no avail over the last 1 1/2 months. Every time it stays up a day, maybe 2 but falls again. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this? He does seem to have large ears, and the right ear seems to have a crease right at the base.
Could absolutely use your help please.....please......please.

Sometime it takes quite a few attempts with tape training to get the ears to stand. Don't give up!

Is their an age limitation when you should just give in and live with it?

I would say if the ears aren't up after 6 or 7 months old then you missed the boat on training them to stand correctly.

A little off topic but I am really surprised about the amount of your puppies have trouble with their ears not standing up,you don't see many bullies over jere in the UK but in all my years of owning Bullies 35yrs I have only seem one whose right ear was not standing up

@melphipps - People can be around one or two Bull Terriers for a century and still may not have vast knowledge and experience with different Bull Terriers from various bloodlines.

One thing is for sure, the smaller and more "Terrier" type BT's normally have no issues with their ears standing and will often have erect ears as early as 6 weeks old with no issues. However, the larger more "Bull" type BT's often are the ones with larger heavier ears which can be problematic with standing erect unless tape training is conducted.

Have to be honest with you I think they look great with dropped ears,I wouldn't of cared if either of mine had dropped ears,a few weeks ago Liam was having trouble with teething and his ears went slightly floppy he looked so gorgeous

@melphipps - There are quite a few people that really don't care if their Bull Terrier has floppy ears, blue eyes, cow hocked, skinny head, straight nose, weak structure, etc. Sadly, there are many Bull Terrier breeders who feel the same way.
Fortunately, there are many who truly cherish the Bull Terrier breed and respect the "Breed Standards." Without these Standards the breed would soon lose its integrity and become tainted by bad genetics as many other breeds have already become.

How long can you leave the tape on the ears??? We read your article and watched your video and this time we left them taped for 6 days. Over a 3 day period the ear would drop a little each day until finally after third day it was down again

I only leave the tape on for 2 days maximum. If one of both ears fall I repeat the process.

As Steve mentioned the more course (bully) dogs have a thick ear

My male is on the bully side even compared to his sister who is more terrier like

His ears stand beautifully but when tired or asleep he will drop one at times

As a pup they were all over the place while his sister who is more refined and has thinner ears got them up earlier

I would tape them for two days than off a day or so than back on and it all worked out

Gelatin and cottage cheese also I believe helped
