My dog bitten by another EBT

I’ve literally just been out for a walk and spotted another EBT in Park so went over.

Ended up with mine getting attached by the other EBT. he’s now got a little cut on his lip. He seems ok since. He’s still his same happy self. Doesn’t seem to be shaken. In fact I’m probably worse off after it all.

Annoyed at myself for trusting other owner saying his EBT was good with other dogs.

Just because they're both EBTs doesn't mean they are going to love each other. I guess that lesson you've learned now. Many EBTs are not compatible with other dogs. And it can become extra tricky between basically any dog and a puppy. Many dogs feel bothered by puppies and don't really care much about playing with them. The other dog owner may not necessarily have known what was coming. Just saying ... your own responsibility to be careful does not end after asking if the other dog is friendly.
Bad experience is not always avoidable. But if you want to spare your dog such things in the future you should choose play pals wisely - knowing that at some point even your own dog could reveal to be not very compatible with others: Best case scenario would be to know the other owner and dog and the dog is older, bigger than yours and very settled. First, introduction on leash (both dogs), so you can intervene any time and then maybe playtime together off leash in an area without other dogs. And - just to be safe - NO toys involved. Take your time with the socializing. It's important, and it would not be a very good idea to lt the dog grow up without any contact to other dogs. But it's always safer to take one step after another.
Just another example: I used to chose dog parks and dog beaches for socializing. But, honestly the worst experiences I've ever made between my dogs and others have always been in dog parks. The situation is just too uncontrollable.
Today, if I had a dog that is pretty new to the family, not an adult and I don't really know how it will react in certain situations, dog parks would never again be my first choice for socializing and I would not recommend it. It is like playing with fire.
  • I run my dogs with other dogs and the best way I have found is to keep them moving as in the woods off lead

They don’t focus on each other and are more interested in their surroundings

Not big on leash to leash they can pick up the owners tension quickly and it can trigger things

I know my way is difficult because most dogs are being walked on leash etc

After basic obiedence my dogs are off leash 99% of the time

  • Thanks.

Would he need to see the vet or will it heal alone. I’ve cleaned wound with TCP (dettol) antiseptic.
  • Hi Bill.
If it's just a small cut and not dripping blood, then your dog should be ok.
Just keep your eye on it to make sure it doesn't get infected.

  • I have 3 dogs the youngest is the bull terrier for the most part they get along but I am always watching... the 2 older dogs 11 & 10 have been together for 9 years so I trust them together at this point but I spent a month introducing them at the beginning and dog # 2 was in a crate when we weren't home for about a year. Now with dog # 3 "what was I thinking" she is in a crate when no one is home . There have been a few altercations between the 2 females nothing serious because I was there . So you see even with dogs that live together there is a potential for a fight so with strange dogs always be careful.

I too have learned the hard way in trusting someones opinion on how good their dog is with other dogs. Now I'm always in the habit of being cautious with other dogs and not trusting them until I have first hand knowledge of their temperaments.
