MCT on leg :(

We adopted Ivy last October. She was very over weight and we have worked hard to get her down to healthy weight, she’s had a few fainting episodes so we’ve been to vet for that, then she got a paw infection so fair to say we were hoping for a few months of good health. I took her to vets today to get lump checked that she’s had since we got her and got the news (via voicemail - thanks vet!) that it’s a mass cell tumour. It’s on her back leg and hasn’t changed since we’ve had her but I’ve no idea how long it’s been there obviously. Needless to say I’m distraught.
Surgery is booked for a week today. Worst thing is can’t even speak to vet because they didn’t get round to calling me back today before they closed. I’m so worried this lovely girl has come into our life and stole our hearts but is going to leave us too soon. Has anyone had any experience with MCT?

We have a lump on the left back leg right now in a lymph node my vet took a cell sample from it and we are treating it with antibiotics. It is going down in size with antibiotics.

I have a dog with mast Cell , her first one was about 4 years ago we have since had 3 others removed and tested .The grade for the tumor is low so its not fast growing .Blue is almost 10 now and has another on her back leg we are treating it with Benadryl for now not sure we will get this one removed. There are different grades of MCT so its not an automatic death sentence and a lot of times once the tumor is removed they never come back .

THanks everyone. We got her test results back today. Both tumors removed were low grade 2. We’re now waiting on further test to decide if any more treatment is required. Such a worry. She’s had a bad time of it, weve only had her a few months and just hoping nothing has spread.

What was the further test ?

So one of the tumors has a very low MI (less than 0). The other was MI of 4. So my vet has suggested more detailed analysis to check cell proliferation. Ki 67 and then ckit tests I think he said. I’ve just been balling my eyes out all day. Pathetic but I just am so anxious for my boo. Only rescued her in October and just can’t believe this is happening.

Hang in there ! I will tell you that in the past years since my dog got a mast cell I have met so many people with dogs that have had them or have them .I believe it is very common ,I remember when Blue got her 1st on I was devastated but she has been fine .

Thank you so much. It really helps. I am so worried that it’s spread and we don’t know about. They are both low grade 2 but I just wish they had been grade 1 and I probably worry less. My vet said have two is worse prognosis than 1 but I can see your baby had more than 1 too and is fine so gives me hope. Her leg wound is taking longer to heal and she’s really angry at me for keeping her on bed rest bless herk. Here she is...

Did the histopathology say if they were completely excised? Or if they had “clean” margins?

yes they said clean margins. Which is something at least.
