Pancreatitis
Our 18 month old white male bull terrier, Nev, has just been diagnosed with pancreatitis and secondary bowel ulceration related to eating too much bone marrow.
He has had a 2 week history of..... loose dark stools, a little breathlessness, reduced stamina, subtle weight loss which has now become very apparent (6 kilos). On a side note, he is and has been eating and drinking fine. We thought that his symptoms were related to a spell of hot weather.
He has been given anti inflammatory and antibiotic shots followed by a course of antibiotics together with turkey and rice canned dog food to give his stomach and bowel a rest. All of this goes against our aim of controlling his allergies with a grain free and medication free regime but it is the only course of action open to improving his condition.
Has anyone else got any experience in managing this condition ?

No medication, obesity or trauma.
He has always been quite lean despite eating lots.
Over the last 6 months he has been eating at least 1 kilo of cooked kangaroo with a little lambs liver and heart, plus vegetables, green beans, cabbage, natural yoghurt, a little salmon oil, unrefined coconut oil, split into 2 meals per day.
He also gets a small amount of lamb rib bone or horse bone on alternate days.
Just prior to him becoming unwell, he had consumed quite a lot of bone marrow from a large beef knuckle bone.
My wife Helen took him to the vets while i was at work. The vet is South African with lots of experience with Bullies. He attributed the pancreatitis to bone marrow.
Will keep you updated.
Atlas is looking really good.
We were feeding Nev completely raw but he was getting quite spotty.
I started to cook his food about 6 months ago and his spots started to clear up.
I guess it's all trial and error.
They are a concern eh mate......gotta love 'em
hope Atlas' leg turns out ok.
It must be hard trying to keep him rested.
Just over a week later and all appears to be good.
Stools back to normal, gaining weight, energy levels back up.
Another 2 days of antibiotics to go and no side effects so far.
I never thought i would say this but it's really good to see him charging around the house, bouncing off the walls and crashing into furniture....

More testing proved that the dog does not have pancreatitis.
He has salmonella.
The vet has told us that it's currently in a semi dormant state so the dog doesn't need antibiotics but advised us to change his diet to Crocodile and Tapioca.
So far so good with no side effects.

Hoping to hear your Bullie gets well soon and back to his normal self.

The dog is looking good although still on the lean side.
Energy level is back to normal and stools all good.
Thanks for your reply and all the best for the new year.
