Puppy Aggression

Help! Our 4 month old bully is now attacking my 5 year old shi-tzu. This was not an issue until a week ago and it has happened 5 times. I am terrified that she will seriously hurt (or worse) him. This happens in my kitchen, usually while I am cooking, unprovoked by the shi- Tzu. Our girl EBT Tangie gets plenty of exercise , is in the crate only at night, and my husband Dan is home with her and my boy Zeek all day. Tangie has not done this around him at all....any advise would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

  • Dogs + Kitchen + Food = Recipe for disaster. (pardon the pun)
But seriously, keep them out of the kitchen while cooking.
  • Thank you. Do you think it’s a “food” thing or my puppy Trying to establish dominance? I appreciate your feedback!
  • Its probably both. When you feed them do you feed the older dog first ? Older dog should be first in everything ,first out of the door for walks ,first in the door ,first fed ect. I have 3 dogs 10 ,9 and 1. The 1 yr old is the bull terrier . Her and my male dog are fine together but her and the other female have had a few altercations .I have to keep my eye on them all the time especially if they get excited .They will re direct at each other if I don't control it .

Some Bull Terriers during their adolescent stages can display some negative dominant and aggressive behavior. It's best to be very stern with her to the point she realizes there will be consequences for her unacceptable behavior. Keep an eye on her during times in which you know she will be more prone to show dominant behavior and be quick to correct her when she first initiates the behavior.

  • I don’t feed our bullie in the kitchen (or sneak her treats there) because it brings the worse out in her. She will run frantically, bowling anyone or anything in her way, towards the kitchen if anyone happens to be in there. It was annoying the crap out of me.

I still treat her off cuts from preparing dinner (such as carrot ends or cheese), but I will take it outside and make her sit for it. She’s a better behaved dog now. We can eat in the lounge room next to her bed and she just sleeps through it (whereas in the past she would sit in front of me and eye ball me until I got cranky and took her outside). Food and dogs.
