Sexual behavior in adolescence

I need an advice. Our miniature bull terrier is 9 months old. Since he was 6, he started humping on this basketball ball we have at home, and we're fine with that. But first, he tries to hump on me or other family members.
We don't encourage that behavior so he turns to the ball. He always does that after meal.

- start licking (especially my elbows or other sweaty parts), then little chewing (controlled) then "red rocket " goes out and humping starts (he got overexcited). When we stop that (water gun), he goes to do it on his ball.

I'm worried is that behavior normal for his age, because it's impossible to cuddle with him anymore. Every time he smells our sweat, he got super excited about it.

What's your experience with terriers in puberty (adolescents)? Thank you.

It's not uncommon for some dogs to go through this stage at his age. I can assure you that it is not something that he will continue to do forever. Normally once they hit full maturity this behavior ceases. However, proper discipline and training will help curtail this problem a lot quicker.

  • @BulliesofNC thank you for answer.
The main problem for me is that this behavior started really funny. You know that bullie face... :) and it's hard to get angry on him to make him stop. Water gun does the job, he doesn't love get sprayed with water so he goes away on his ball. Now when he grew a bit bigger, this ball is small for him to "do it", so he can't finish his job.

I'm fine with that, but we lost all that cuddling we do when he was a puppy :(
