Heartworm prevention
Are any of you out there using holistic or alternative methods for heartworm preventative? If yes what are you using and do you feel that is safe and effective? I know that people can be very divided on this issue & I don't want to start an all-out War. I know that heartworm prevention is very important in some areas more than others based on risk of exposure. I do not use flea or tick prevention on my guy. I do not have a problem with fleas or ticks. My past 2 dogs never had a problem with fleas or ticks ever. Now I will say they were pretty much inside dogs with the exception of run of a fenced-in yard + walking on a lead with me. They were checked periodically but never had any signs/ problems scratching, or any kind of parasites physically on them. Their risk of exposure would be similar to mine... I like to take a more minimalistic approach, if it's not broken don't fix it. This is because for many yrs past I worked as a vet tech & while I understand that preventive measures are very important (I have also read and have a personal understanding of some of the long term repercussions of the long term use of some preventatives/ drugs.
