  • HEARTBROKEN AND DISAPPOINTED

Kennel Calypso’s informative website, positive feedback, and history of delivering many litters of bull terriers makes our recent experience with Denra and Wayne of Kennel Calypso all the more astounding and disturbing.

We are a retired couple with time, resources, abundant loving care, and a history of putting the needs of our “animal babies” first. Over the years we’ve raised many dogs, from puppies to senior rescues. And we’ve owned three miniature bull terriers, including our current dog, Spanky, a somewhat “famous" tetanus survivor, who was featured on the local TV news after his miraculous recovery from weeks inside a critical care unit at a regional speciality veterinary practice.

In 2017 we sought a new dog playmate for Spanky who had been grieving the passing of our sixteen year old Chocolate Lab, Tucker. Based on numerous communications and interviews by phone and email, we decided to move forward with a new puppy purchase from Kennel Calypso. After they accepted our application and cashed our deposit check of five hundred dollars, we patiently waited through a screening process that lasted many months, during which time we were assured the breeder was screening litters for the very best puppy candidate for our family's needs.

At the seventh month after the accepted application/deposit, Denra informed us a puppy was available and that if we accepted the puppy, arrangements would need to be made quickly. We responded immediately by telephone and after the phone call received a photo of the little girl, and we had the understanding everything was set. Our joy was short lived, though, since we were stunned to receive a call back, 30 minutes later, from Denra informing us they had decided to not sell us a dog and intended to refund our deposit.

We are astounded and disappointed that a seven month screening process with accepted application and deposit culminated in a puppy offer and spontaneous withdrawal. We are more than disappointed, we are heartbroken. We are also sorry to have invested so much time waiting for a playmate for our dog Spanky, time that could have been spent researching dogs from other reputable breeders.

It might be that Kennel Calypso’s owners have good intentions, but to us their business practices are unprofessional, misleading, and unjust. As we did not get the puppy we were promised and that this dog missed out on an incredibly loving home life with us, we feel Kennel Calypso has neither its dogs’ nor customers’ best interests at heart.

"Buyer Beware.” We wish you the best experience finding the right puppy, but as you submit a deposit and wait months being assured they are seeking a superior puppy for your needs, beware our disappointment and heartbreak.

@sonnypeckereno - It certainly sounds like you had a bad experience with them. Unfortunately not all breeders have the professionalism we'd expect.
On another note, maybe it was a good thing they suddenly decided not to sell you the puppy. Something may have been wrong with that puppy genetically and instead of telling you the puppy was deaf or had a Stage IV heart murmur maybe they felt it better to just say the puppy was no longer available vice allowing you and others to second guess the health and genetics of the pups they produce.
Who knows what the case was but if they promised you the puppy I'm sure they didn't suddenly decide to sell it to someone else. I'd be willing to bet the reasons were due to the puppy itself and that may have been better than them handing a puppy off to you with known medical issues.
